Long trip scenario. Which is better charge situation?

In addition to the points made above. Would you rather have a delay such as a flat tire or detour on the road with 6% or 15% battery left? I think it is far better to start at 100% and have extra left over, than start at 90% and have to make an extra stop.

If you don't mind me asking, Who did you get your Powerwalls through? I was quoted $18,000 for the first and $15,000 for the second to add them to my existing Solar installation.

Tesla Model Y Recent CARB Cerifitation Suggests Range & Delivery

Which is too bad, Living in the cold white north and i was hoping for something better. Maybe i will get lucky and they will offer a higher density 100kw battery pack at some point. (fingers crossed) The Model 3's Mileage isn't good when it gets below 0. it's a balmy -11 today, and has been...

Tesla Model Y Recent CARB Cerifitation Suggests Range & Delivery

+1 SageBrush, Especially when you consider the larger Model Y will suffer more at highway speeds than the Model 3 does.

    Western Canada Superchargers

I would be happy if they just put another v2 charger in along Gasoline Alley. 4 or 8 stall doesn't really matter.

Anyone in the greater Edmonton area gone ahead with a Model 3 purchase and willing to show it off?

True, but i was asking if someone is willing, not if they had one. If the 4-8 weeks is accurate on the website then someone should receive their vehicle before AWD becomes available.

Anyone in the greater Edmonton area gone ahead with a Model 3 purchase and willing to show it off?

I got the invite but holding off for now because no AWD and no Standard battery. Willing to buy lunch as an incentive. :)

    Solar panels

Same basic problems as putting solar on a car though... - Cost of the panels vs amount of energy generated makes it a lousy trade off. - You might be talking a lot more square feet of power generation, but the truck also requires a lot more energy to run. if you put solar on the trailer and...

    Tesla Owners in Alberta

$82 is a good price. I just guessed at $75 a day given that you wouldn't know what vehicles are available and including stuff like insurance, bring back empty, tends to drive the price up fast.

    Tesla Owners in Alberta

if you only need a car for the occasional trip to Edmonton you might want to consider just renting one. it would not be as cheap as a bus ticket but it would still allow you to keep most of your savings in the bank till a Model 3 is available. A $50 - $75 per day rental is a drop in the bucket...

    Aero or Sport wheels

I will probably buy the aero wheels, not because i like them more but because they are the cheaper option. I wonder what they would look like if they color matched the car? Any photoshoppers want to give it a go?

So the Model 3 is real, and in prod: what will the naysayers shift to now?

Here you go: Tesla’s new Supercharger strategy is a major shift that will enable urban EV ownership
  16. dchuck

    Western Canada Superchargers

That kind of makes sense because your not changing the weight of the car very much. (200kg on a 2000kg car)

It might take some more time but now that Alberta has a solar incentive program, even Brad Wall should realize that he has to do something or risk loosing votes in the next election. I only hope that Alberta follows up the Solar incentive with an EV program before my Model 3 comes. :)

Model 3 - Canada Delivery Prediction

Thanks for creating a separate thread Canuck. I could have swore that Red was a requirement in Canada, i know it is in Europe. but I could be wrong. One would hope by mid 2018 all of the options would be available including AWD and Performance/Ludacris. Even more likely if you and Wayner...

" but that will not matter for the Model 3" Not EPA. More like, I believe there are different emissions rules in Canada than the US but that those rules do not apply to the Model 3 for obvious reasons. :)

Model 3 - Canada Delivery Prediction

Tesla has only stated they want to produce 50,000 Model S/X's in the first half of 2017, They did not, as far as i know, make a projection for the 2nd half of 2017 because of the unknowns around the Model 3. Though 100,000 S/X's in 2017 should be achievable given that Q1 was 25k. As far as...

Model 3 - Canada Delivery Prediction

@SMSMD - That is a reasonable assumption If Tesla already has a good working relationship with Ivanhoe why bother finding another location. Not to mention its proximity to the highway and the airport makes it a better choice than South Edmonton Common or Southgate. The only beef i have with...

In anticipation of my model 3 coming next year and after the announcement of the rebate I contacted SkyFire and got a preliminary quote (no site visit) and it came in at $2.58 per watt installed, So prices are still going down.

Why we won't get a 60 Kw base battery

This point makes two assumptions. First is that you only use a car for the commute to work each day. I use my car for a whole lot more. Most days your right, my 50 mile commute is more than covered. Some days i can go as high as 150 miles with running errands and taking the kids to events across...

No dash gauges and air vents.... :-(

+1 Sonny Daze Don't care about a HUD, and the lack thereof will not change my mind on the Model 3. But that rationalization is totally off the mark.

ditched 2 model 3 reservations for one mdl s 100d

I like your list but you missed one, you get to buy the car now. I do not know where you are in the Queue but I will not see my Model 3 until at least Q1 of 2018. :( If i could afford a Model S I would do the same thing as you. The only downside is when the Tesla releases the 3 they might add...

    Model 3 Configuration Time Window

Remind me again what any of the above has to do with the interior of the Model 3? You keep inserting words in my mouth. I never said Major, i never said Dramatically, you used both of those terms and attributed to my posts. sigh... let me try again from scratch.... Tesla doesn't have to...
  27. dchuck

    Model 3 Configuration Time Window

I don't understand your question in context of your quote. You implied that Tesla will cheap out on the interior (de-content) in order to make a $35k version of the vehicle. I indicated that they don't really have to since there is more money to be saved by working on the battery and the...

    Model 3 Configuration Time Window

Actually there is some information out there. If you take a look at the model3tracker website the number of base units hovers around 7%. So your 10% guesstimate is probably close. The cost of the interior is peanuts in comparison to the cost of the battery and construction method. (aluminum vs...

@Patk Your best bet is to have a look at www.plugshare.com it has an excellent map which shows the location of most publicly available chargers and has a comments section to let you know exactly where the charger is located and if there is anything notable about that location. I just had a...

Deal, bragging rights it is. Oh i am well aware of Tesla time. I have been following Tesla since before the release of the Model S and I lurked here since the model 3 reveal but didn't have much to say so i never created an account. as i said, Elon is probably too aggressive on schedule by...

@TLej i agree, it would be nice if Tesla would install superchargers on the trans-Canada in 2018-2019. I have no use for that route, i would use the route south through Montana more, but i know folks like S'toon would welcome them with open arms. it is after all a chicken and egg problem. You...

    Western Canada Superchargers

I was hoping to see a supercharger right along the highway, So happy to see this. I know there is one in Red Deer, but it is kind of off the beaten path if all your doing is driving from Edmonton to Calgary. It would have been better to have it along Gasoline Alley. Not that the current...

You reserved a model 3, but really want a model y?

I want both, The 3 for me and a Y for the wife. The problem with the article, as others have pointed out is that they assume no one wants a sedan. This just isn't true, 1/3 of all vehicles sold in 2015 were cars. Yes there is more demand for SUV's and Trucks (especially in North America). But...

    Home charging setup question

I am in the same boat as you. I am currently in a home with 100 amp service and i plan to run a 60 amp breaker to my Model 3 to use the maximum 48 amp charge rate. The only precaution i am taking is using Wire capable of 100 amps so i have the option to upgrade later. You mention you have Gas...

Tesla on Track to Start Production

+1 WarpedOne That and re-work. If they produce 2000 cars a week to start but have to take them all back because of a major problem then the actual production rate is 0. Better to start slow and get the process right before ramping up, even if that pushes more production into 2018. I would...

Why are you waiting for the Model 3 instead of getting a CPO Model S?

Same explanation as others. Too expensive, cheapest in Canada is 67k for a 2013 with rear drive and it is on the opposite side of the country so i would have to have it shipped to me. I am hoping to get into a Model 3 for 50-55k including AWD. Plus as a new car it will have AP2.0 which I...

Do the details of Model 3 really matter?

I for one am sticking with Tesla until the final version of the car is produced. None of the current speculation has me ready to go to someone else for a solution. The problem i have is i don't need, and am not looking for a HUD but i to want a proper in front of the eyes speedometer. I had a...

Is it possible to still get the full tax credit?

I don't think your decision should be based in anyway on the amount of tax credit you get back. You should completely base your decision on if you think the Model 3 will meet your needs. The tax credit is just an added bonus on the side. If you can afford to put the $1000 down, go ahead. Like...

Frank Schwab I don't think the Bolt has a 14-50 adapter for the portable charge cable, at least none of the pictures i have seen show one. I believe if you want level 2 at home you have to purchase a dedicated charger. Steve3008 It sounds like you may have a mix of different vehicles. If you...

Sigh, the sad part is not his views but his viewership. Starting to lose faith

Dutchie i hate to break it to you but these cars will NEVER get cheaper. As it is in the ICE world so is it in the Tesla world.
