Have a local person interested and waiting to hear from him again. If that falls through they’re yours. Not sure who we use to ship though? Any clue? So heavy I wonder if we need them to be crated individually or something.

Formerly Silver 21” staggered Turbines that had some rash and I had repaired and powder coated “Tesla Gray” by Chicago area specialist. Rarely used, ContinentalSportContact tires with tons of tread left. Used my 19” all seasons most of time. Probably 6-8K miles on the tires and wheels. See...

Major Problem (electrical failure, smell, smoke and shutdown) 2017 Model S

Circling back here, car was returned after some insurance approval delays. About a $7K fix. I also upgraded to MCU 2 while it was in. Much better. .. good to have it back.

Major Problem (electrical failure, smell, smoke and shutdown) 2017 Model S

Dark Cloud. . . Nice call. Turns out there were wires chewed related to the high voltage coolant system. . . Still waiting for final tally but looks like battery system is intact. Engaged insurance adjuster and is covered under comprehensive. Thank goodness. Never seen any type of critter...

Major Problem (electrical failure, smell, smoke and shutdown) 2017 Model S

Mine’s the original. . . So my guess is I will get a refurb. Hopefully covered by 8 yr 150K because technically I’m out of warranty for 48 hours when the event occurred. I also have 30 days to sign up for extended I think. . . Might get lucky there.

Major Problem (electrical failure, smell, smoke and shutdown) 2017 Model S

Been a long while (years) since I posted, but Maggie’s in the shop for the first time since I got her 4 years and 3 days ago. . .very bummed. She’s still immaculate after 40K miles. Was driving short drive from home to lunch, about 4 miles away. All back roads, never got over 40 or so MPH due...

I'm about to put staggered 21" turbines in market and was researching market price (the ones in my avatar photo but with new color). If you want a shot at them they were just repaired and powder-coated. Changed from silver to tesla gray with all curbrash repaired. Expect to pick them up in...

So I had my yellow screen fixed this past weekend...

Partially True. The popular legend is that a reporter in NYC koined the phrase when NYC was competing with Chicago for the World’s Fair. But most historians believe that the “Windy” part was koined because of the double entendre given Chicago’s windy weather. That said, NYC, Boston and SanFran...

So I had my yellow screen fixed this past weekend...

I hear you. Repairs were done well and for nothing. . .that was the “right” part. I sent an email yesterday about the miles. We’ll see what the story is. I’m hopeful that they had to meet someone from another chicago service center to get the UV thing done or something.

So I had my yellow screen fixed this past weekend...

I also had the yellow border for probably the last 10K miles but it didn’t bug me that much. I went in due to a seal problem with the driver’s door window (that bothered me) and mentioned the yellow border. They loaned me a 100d model x and three days later, the wind noise from the window is...

Anybody in the Chicago area have a red Model S with white interior?

The white “leather” as I understand it is a vegan product and is easily cleaned unless you take a sharpie to it. . .fyi. I’ve sat on it, and it’s pretty nice. If you’d like to see a black with tan interior let me know. . .lol.

Model 3 Price Reduction. Feeling robbed!

Two part Economics 101 question. I am not an Economist, so excuse any improper vernacular. 1). There has been no competition in the market since the inception of the Tesla S- 100% of demand matched with Tesla Supply. The automobile market has to date been unable to effectively respond...

Price Drop of $2k on M3P+

Look, Tesla is going to continue making better cars than your Tesla. They will go faster, look cooler, have more range, have nicer finishes and ultimately improved hardware. The price has gone down now too. . . It's how this whole thing works. . . You folks who just bought your cars are the...

Paint protection: worth it or mostly a geeking out thing?

You should do it if you choose to own vs. lease. I'm 18K miles and 1.5 Chicago Winters into a full xpel on the entire vehicle, plus a coat of cquartz plus on all including the wheels. The car looks brand new. If washed properly (no shortcuts to two bucket hand wash), there will be no swirl...

    Benefit of AWD?

I'm a Chicagoan and weather is/was 90% of the reason I'm waiting on dual motor, but most S and 3 owners indicate that the weight, low center of gravity and even weight distribution of the battery pack almost make the D unnecessary for that purpose. The dual motor also will be a bit quicker and...

Ordered an X. Declined FSD. Is this a mistake?

These discussions crack me up. Long way to go on FSD, smart not to buy and might be smart not to be an early adopter when it is available. . .read on. As for EAP. . . . I use it regularly in bumper to bumper traffic if I catch a rush hour window between the Loop and the burbs. I admit I've...

Almost stranded for a 3rd time in 8 weeks - got home thanks to a trick I saw here

I knew you weren't from these parts when I saw this comment. . . Regen takes a while to warm up in colder climates. It's nonexistent for the first several miles in the dead of winter in Chicago (this week included until yesterday. . .but I digress) unless properly warmed up. . . M

Chicago S owner- Rec'd Invitation to Configure Today...Dual Motor Mid '18

May have been posted already. If so, apologies. So I get the email, and it says I can get the First Production in 3-6 weeks, which is faster than I got my S, so pretty cool. But I planned on waiting for the dual motor. See below. . . looks like dual motor is coming before lower end RWD...

    Model S: Cream vs. Black

I love this question. . I had chance to upgrade from 90D pre production to 100D but my configuration wasn't available in the 100D. . . I LOVE the cream / tan interior, but I have black headliner, carpet dash etc. Dye transfer happens. . .really only in driver's seat so far even though I have...

    Worried about non-employee, non-owner deliveries

Keep the faith. . . Generally speaking, "Musk time" has its own cadence. My experience is that it is worth the wait. I don't need a tshirt or coffee mugs. Keep the gift and pump it back into the production line. . . Congrats on your reservation and I totally understand how anxious you are...

    Model 3 spotted in Chicago

Had to be...would be a massive coincidence....I couldn't attend and there's nothing on the Facebook page. It did say the downtown sc refused to host, and they were directed to the new supercharger in the parking lot in the river north / Streeterville / east loop area...think its near or in...

How often do Tesla owners run out of charge?

The simplest reason that Tesla drivers never run out of juice is that we all wake up with a "full tank" every day. Daily driving for most of us only consumes a relatively small fraction of the charge. After commuting to work and back, even with an errand or two thrown in, I still have >200...

How often do Tesla owners run out of charge?

I'm assuming the OP is not an owner or lessee of a Tesla, so for the benefit of those who are unfamiliar with the data available to the operator of a Tesla, I give you a relatively simple case study in why we will very rarely run out of power on the road. . . a little more prosaic than empirical...

I too have a full xpel, so what is the "no rinse" solution you're using on it? My car is also a salty mess. . . hadn't even realized that the aluminum frame is immune to corrosion from salt. . . another good reason to own the S. Is the undercarriage all aluminum as well? Thanks in advance. . .

It's also easier to use the hand gauge than glance at the dashboard from the wheel well. Some of the "onboard" pressure gauges on the pumps don't give me confidence in their accuracy. Some don't have a gauge at all...
