While waiting for my delivery advisor to get back to me about my appointment for my 3P+, I logged in to see how much my existing config would cost if I were to order today.
Tesla doesn't make it easy to see the breakdown if all the fees so I clicked order thinking that there was going to be...
I ordered a RW LR 3 in mid-June and modified in mid August so you're pretty much in the same boat as me.
+ unlimited supercharging
+ unlimited connectivity
- referral credit/wall charger
Here's Tesla's response to my email:
"Any orders placed before 8/1/2018 that were for a Performance Model 3 or are later modified to be for a Performance Model 3 will automatically be updated to reflect unlimited supercharging. Orders placed before 8/1/2018 are not eligible to have a referral...
My LA service advisor could only get me #2, connectivity/supercharging based on my original June order date. Could not allow me to use my referral code after editing my order to the 3P
I've emailed Tesla but it's impossible to get a response.
I'm really really surprised that they're promising level 5. Sounds like they have a plan, but isn't the consensus that the hardware is the 'easy' part but the hardware is hard?
What happens if they can't get the software to work well enough to get level5 going?
If Elon really felt it wasn't right, and wanted to make it up to customers who did pay full price, he should offer a discount on soft upgrades. Discounted service agreement, extended warranty, battery upgrades etc.
Did you notice any additional sensors built into the car? Extra housing in the windshield? Extra radar in the sides/rear?
It might be an indicator on how far along they are with new AP hardware and if they're benchmarking or testing for inclusion.
I know it's a Model X in this case and the Model S is the one with all the huge discounts, but it's crazy that they're discounting those cars about thousands and thousands, swapping out confirmed cars for inventory cars, waiving fees etc. Yet they won't live up to the terms of a deal...
If they're not going to give you a discount, I'd take delivery whenever is the most convenient. The delivery center should be a lot quieter the first week of October vs the last week of September so you might even get a little better service too.
You're going to need to break out a spreadsheet and do the calculations to figure out what works best.
For my needs, TOU was absolutely necessary, but charging a Tesla is very different than charging a Volt. After changing to TOU my SCE bill wasn't drastically more expensive even with the...
Yup, I am arguing with myself.
I can't see them releasing new hardware until they can assess the new information that comes with the 8.0 update and the extra information the radar is providing.
However, I also don't understand the Q3 push. It seems extraordinarily desperate, and Tesla doesn't...
I don't think AP is coming soon for many of the reasons listed already, but the one sign that gives me pause is the huge Q3 clear out that's going on right now.
I understand that it's supposed to make Q3 numbers look good, but from my vantage point they've gone overboard with the deals. Will...
A few interesting tidbits from the actual NHTSA policy as it relates to Tesla's Autopilot
https://www.transportation.gov/sites/dot.gov/files/docs/AV policy guidance PDF.pdf
".. manufacturers and other entities should place significant emphasis on assessing the risk of driver complacency and...
Looks like the Autopilot Nanny has arrived. With the government heavily involved in the approval and design of autonomous vehicles it looks like it's going to be hard for Tesla to keep pushing the envelope.
Fact Sheet: Encouraging the Safe and Responsible Deployment of Automated Vehicles...
When autonomous cars become commonplace (don't think it will happen by 2030) the industry will start shrinking.
Private cars will becoming moving offices/living rooms. Speed, handling, safety will become normalized. People will not only make fewer car purchases, they'll upgrade the...
Now that it's clear that Tesla is giving unprecedented discounts to move cars, any thoughts on if Tesla will/should start running promotions for soft products for current owners?
Discounted software unlocks?
Discounted ESA/Extended Warranty?
Discounted charger upgrades?
Once you start...
For those of you guys that have already had the Blackvue installed:
If you wanted to switch to another camera, would it be an easy swap? That is, is the power and the 2nd ch run 'plug and play'
If not, do you think it would be an easy swap as long as it remained Blackvue but another model?
What Tesla needs to do is create a series of videos that detail when AP will not work. They already have a series of videos that owners can watch before taking delivery, they need to do the same to illustrate the limitations of AP.
I know the limitations of AEB and TACC are in the manual, but...
I thought that AP2 hardware was coming very very soon too, but after reading the transcripts of AP in v8 of the software update I've changed my mind completely. I can't conceive how they can figure out what hardware they'll need before Model 3 release, let alone source and install.
Maybe...
Initial range is only half the story though, right? Isn't degradation the other half?
If the Bolt charges up to 95-97%, what will degradation look like after 20k miles? Perhaps Chevy is expecting more leases than purchases and degradation won't matter as long as they get their feet in the door?
Obviously it's all speculation, but if you believe:
1) Tesla was planning to use (more) cameras as the primary sensor in AP2 (windshield housing in Model X)
2) Tesla decided to investigate if it's possible to switch from cameras to radar only 3-4 months ago (per Elon Musk)
3) Tesla has only...
Easy experience here, almost too easy.
Approval came quickly and needed no documentation, they just pulled the credit scores.
I was a little late getting the trade-in so car was delivered before the MVPA was generated. I docu-signed as soon as the MVPA was generated and Tesla allowed me to...
Won't this start getting solved as the Superchargers go PPU? I'd even be happy if Tesla removed the unlimited supercharging option and opted for PPU for all non-grandfathered Teslas. As long as they charge a rate that's a little higher than utility, the incentive to for locals to charge will...
It feels like Tesla's learned quite a bit from AP1. They've learned enough that radar is now the primary vs the camera. That's a huge paradigm change. That switch, coupled with the lack of multi-cameras to fill in the Model X's housing makes me think that new hardware is still awhile away...
That's actually the sole reason I don't have summon active on my Tesla. I've butt-dialed too many times. Accidentally calling someone is one thing, accidentally moving my car is another.
I'm contemplating getting my Model S vinyl wrapped instead of putting on paint protection. The costs are similar, but the idea of protecting the car while being able to easily change colors is intriguing.
Costs seem to run about $2k - $3k for 3M Vinyl wrap which isn't too bad, but I'm...
