Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
Changes I would make in priority order.
1. Do away with the raked front pillars and make the front windshield wraparound. Vision out the front should be a high priority.
2. Make the side panels on the bed retractable making it easy to reach over the side of the bed when needed..
3. Make the...
I like this a lot better!
I would be ok with the looks because the strong stainless skin probably cannot be stamped and the straight skin probably cost a lot less to manufacture, if they did away with the raked pillers and made the glass wrap around the windshield like vehicles in the 60's.
Tesla should consider allowing a tesla vehicle owner with FSD the option to transfer the FSD from their vehicle to a new Tesla vehicle. Tesla would have more owners buying FSD with owners remaining loyal to the brand.
Does Tesla allow the remote access to be pin or password protected? If not that should be considered for a future release. With remote access pin or password protected, the thieves would not of been able to turn off remote access and Tesla could of tracked the vehicle.
The point of my post is Tesla says their cost for Supercharging will be cheaper than gas, and yes Supercharging was intended for road trips. Therefore, my examples compare Supercharging on the road with paying for gas on the road. I am not including charging at home and It would be misleading...
Tesla’s Supercharger network until now has been a big selling factor for Tesla. With the new rates in Washington State, this advantage is greatly reduced. Therefore, I don’t think Tesla can fairly claim that their Supercharging network will never be more expensive than gas.
Let me give a...
I would be more likely to purchase EAP (Enhanced Autopilot) and FSD (Full Self-Driving Capability) if I was able to transfer these option to a new Tesla in the future.
I remember Elon saying in a video interview, not to long ago, that the rear motor is designed more for city driving and the front motor designed more for highway driving for the dual motor setup. I can't remember where he was doing the interview. With the front motor designed more for highway...
Unrealistic, maybe. When you consider the impact the model 3 reservations made on Tesla as a company, I don't think it is unrealistic for Elon to want to reward the early reservation holders in a big way. I believe the initial model 3 reservation holders propelled the company toward their goal...
Since some reservations had to be done online where a reservation on March 31st didn't get registered until April 1st, I believe Elon will include reservation completed on April 1st.
I believe a reasonable loyalty gift would be unlimited supercharging. This would limit the financial impact on...
I would like them to make the screen so it can be retracted under the dash with the option for a HUD where voice commands can make selections without using the screen. That would make the dash a lot cleaner and still give the flexibility of using the screen.
el crucero, I am not shure why you disagree? If the sceen can fold under the dash to be hidden where you can leave the screen up all the time if you wish, you don't loose anything. The HUD can be a purchase option where only those wanting a HUD can pay for it. I do like the minimalist dash...
I would like the next design level to have a superior HUD with the ability to fold the screen under the dash where it can be hidden. The sceen would become more of a backup or used all the time because of personal preference.
Since Elon is saying you don't need HUD or display in front of the driver because of AP, does that mean we should not buy the M3 if we don't purchase AP and they don't provide some type of display in front of the driver?
When solar cells become cheap enough and more efficient, all the body surfaces of an electric vehicle could be covered with solar cells. Research on painting on solar cells has been going on for years. Tesla may even be able to use their solar glass for all the body panels if the panels are...
I like using lights that can change to green because the color is not associated with other colored lights on vehicles, the lights can be displayed around vehicles in strategic locations and green is associated with eco friendly vehicles.
Although current law will charge a person that is in physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs while the vehicle is driven autonomously, a police officer is less likely to stop an autonomous level 5 driven vehicle because the vehicle is not being driven...
Most states have a companion law of In Physical Control of a Vehicle While Under the Influence which usually has the same penalties of a DUI. Although, these laws may change as the result of autonomous driving. Another question of changing laws as the result of autonomous driving may be...
Tesla may be working on sandwiching highly efficient transparent solar cells in glass. Sandwiching solar cells in all the glass of a Tesla vehicle would complement the combining of SolarCity with Tesla Motors. With limited expense for sandwiching solar cells in the glass, Tesla may be able to...
I had to call my son that drives my 2004 Priuis ten months out of each year to get an exact mileage number that is 214,183 miles. He is going to love it when I replace the Prius with a model 3.
I don't think Tesla will vary the cost for electricity from what they use on their charging estimator that displays the savings you gain by driving a Tesla. If they charge more than the estimator, they will get negative press as the result.
THANKS MorrisonHiker, I also found the gas price entered wrong for New Hampshire. The corrected spreadsheet is below.
I added all the states to compare the fuel cost between Tesla's 100 kWh battery and a Prius that gets 50 miles to a gallon. There are sixteen states where the electricity cost...
I added all the states to compare the fuel cost between Tesla's 100 kWh battery and a Prius that gets 50 miles to a gallon. There are sixteen states where the electricity cost for the Tesla is greater than the cost of gas for a Prius getting 50 miles to the gallon. The comparison gets better...
Let me know if my calculations are off? I thought it would be interested to look at the fuel cost comparison between Tesla's 100 kWh battery and a Prius that gets 50 miles to a gallon. As you can see, in Hawaii, it may not make sense to purchase a Tesla Model 3 (M3) unless Tesla allows you to...
Tesla should be able to set the cost based on their cost for electricity and offset the cost of delivering the service in other ways like solar stations.
A more important issue is how will Tesla account for the varying cost of electricity from different states and countries. I am guessing...
If Tesla is going to charge per kWh, I believe they will not charge more than their cost per mile in their "Charging Estimator". Therefore we can get a close estimate for a 50 kWh charge by looking at their new 100 kWh battery that goes 315 miles. If you plug 155 miles into their "Charging...
My recommendation to Tesla is that they badge a vehicle based on the hardware that is installed in a vehicle. If a vehicle has a 75 kWh battery that is software limited to 60 kWh, the physical badging on the vehicle should reflect the 75 kWh limit. The 60 kWh software limit of the vehicle...
I am ok with the new MS and MX front end design as long as the opening to the front trunk is the same as the reveal that eliminates the lines on the bumper and has a cleaner look.
In keeping with Elon’s intent that the name of his vehicles spell SEXY, why not name a vehicle “I”, place the “I” in front the ☰ and you get SI☰XY. The ☰ needs a little modification to match the letters.
I am not sure Tesla needs to recoup the cost of the super charging stations that are already being paid for by other means. What Tesla needs to target is overuse of the superstations that will lead to unrealistic waiting times. If Tesla's per use cost is set by their average national cost for...
Would charging by mile added to the battery possibly avoid the problem of charge per kWh since the cost is averaged throughout the nation? Might be worth looking into.
If you select the model S vehicle from the Tesla site and go to the "Charging Estimator" section, Tesla list the cost per mile for electricity. Tesla should use this listed price for charging per use of a super charger based on the miles added to your vehicle battery. Charging more than their...
This is from the Tesla website: "Model S Performance comes standard with All-Wheel Drive Dual Motor, pairing the high performance rear motor with a high efficiency front motor to achieve supercar acceleration, from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds."
