Tesla model 3 in Southern California. It looks great!

My issue is that I might be putting non-refundable deposit down in next few weeks on this car without personally seeing. So I hope it does not remind me that it looks like X every-time I look at it next 5 years :O

Maybe time to visit some other forums ??? :D :D

Tesla model 3 in Southern California. It looks great!

I keep hearing that and that is not a good thing. Model X looks bad from just about every angle :(....to put it mildly !!

I am afraid that white plastic sitting in the sun over time will start to turn yellow. Might be several years before you notice the difference, but it will happen. I guess sun shades might be a way to protect it.

Will white interior have the wood grain or white trim on the dashboard ? I am leaning towards white interior, but would still like to have wooden trim.

Tesla model 3 in Southern California. It looks great!

From the first picture, M3 holds its own pretty well next to S looks wise.

[Poll] Will you use your Model 3 on road trips?

Whats the range for Model X 90D as compared to Model 3 LR ?
  9. P

[Poll] Will you use your Model 3 on road trips?

Exactly !! Your car should not be the deciding factor for when to stop or where to eat or which hotel to spend the night etc etc. It should be your stomach... or your mood... or your spouse....or your kids.

[Poll] Will you use your Model 3 on road trips?

I have three other cars in the house(ICE). I don't think I would take my LR any further than where single charge takes me a brings me back.

Anyone not getting Enhanced Autopilot (EAP)?

I am going to pass on EAP at this time. It might be too tame for my driving taste. I am an aggressive driver and I enjoy it. Just personal choice. It does sound like a cool feature though.

    2018 Leaf vs Model 3

I think majority of the Tesla's sales are in the US so they will hit that number faster than Nissan which sells globally and has higher overall sales.

Will not save any money on "fuel" with PG&E

That's why its good to put your EV circuit on a second meter. That's what I have done. My house rates are not effected by EV-TOU rates.

    2018 Leaf vs Model 3

Impressive video. Though this full autonomous functionality is not available in Gen2. Single lane driving available now. Lane change capability coming later, possibly thru software updates. I wonder if Leaf would have full autonomous braking at all speeds as a standard feature? Tesla M3 is...

    2018 Leaf vs Model 3

I understand. Been there. I have had two different Leaf's, 2011 and 2013 over the years. That's why there will not be #3 :) Hopefully Nissan has improved the battery a bit.

    2018 Leaf vs Model 3

Leaf Gen 2 will definitely give M3 some competition. There will be other cars coming soon too to do the same. I think Tesla and the investors know that already. Leaf is less than 20k (after incentives). 150 mile range (perfect for daily commuter, soccer moms), autopilot, fun to drive. I...

Will not save any money on "fuel" with PG&E

wow, that's really good rates. looks like In the right market you can save money on fuel !! Really impressed that they give you off-peak rates during weekend and holidays. Here in San Diego, we are charged 50 cents/kw to charge during noon-6pm, regardless of what day. Plus you get 12-hour...

    2018 Nissan Leaf - $29,990. 40kWh battery

Have not looked at all the details, but I like what I see so far. Especially with all the safety feature they have added. 150 miles a day is plenty for most people. If there is no price gouging going on at the dealer, you can get this car for less than $20k before fed tax expires. Could be a...

Sorry to hear that. Our install was done more than 6 years ago. Company policies change. I know they merged two different companies since then.

Will not save any money on "fuel" with PG&E

Correct, they can plug the numbers in different scenarios and come up with the best solution based on your historical and expected usage. Utilities can also give you some idea, but I found them to be not that motivated.

Will not save any money on "fuel" with PG&E

I talked to 5-6 different solar companies, you can tell some are just trying to close the deal as soon as possible. I went with Solar thru Costco. companies that work with Costco tend to be bit more professional. The sales guy I worked with answered all my questions and never pressured me to...

Will not save any money on "fuel" with PG&E

With SDG&E we do get totally screwed. At one time, with my first EV(Leaf) I was paying $0.06/kw. I basically drove my leased car for free. But with rate increase to $0.21/kw, I expect to save only $20-$30/month (with gas price around $3/gallon). If you are planning on getting solar to charge...

    List of “Upgrade Later”

From what I have read, M3's battery pack is not easy to get to, compared to S/X. I am sure in 3-5 years bigger, cheaper better packs will be available from Tesla or even as aftermarket products but I have not heard anything official about battery upgradability from Tesla. M3 battery pack's...

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

I am leaning towards doing a full upgrade (wiring, breaker, HPWC) and future proof myself and leaving my UMC in the car.
  25. P

    New UMC

Could it be a pre-production model ? Production model would be 40 amps as advertised.

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

Because some of us like to make the best informed decision, rather jumping to the first easy option. Plus this gives you an opportunity to learn.
  27. P

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

I did not know that you are not allowed to use 6AWG wire in a 1/2" conduit. Good to know. From what I have found on Tesla's website, UMC should operate just fine on 40amp breaker. I have sent an email to Tesla to confirm that. I might also have an inside connection to one of Tesla's engineer...

Any non-employee get to configure their Model 3 yet?

It's good to see they are staying with the stated timelines. That means production has not hit any snags. Regular customers should also get their cars as per their delivery estimates.
  29. P

    New UMC

That's good to know. I asked a MS owner if there was way to set current rate from the car, he said no, only the depth of charge. I guess he did not know. That mean you CAN use 32 or 40 amp UMC on a 40 amp breaker. I also found this on current S/X 40-amp UMC's user manual: "Use only a 120...
  30. P

    New UMC

Does the older S/X UMC require 50amp circuit or is it smart enough to dial it down ? I am ordering a LR and have 6-50 outlet on a 40amp breaker (left over from my Leaf days).

  33. P

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

Correct. Looking at Tesla's website, they only have UMC for S/X. UMC for M3 might be different. I visited Tesla store and the employees were completely clueless on this. So I'll wait and look for M3's UMC specs. Getting a HPMC is definitely on the books in future. UMC could also be a backup...

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

I'll look into this(contact Tesla). Maybe on a 40-amp circuit, would would be smart enough to draw lower current rate. Slower/longer charging cycle would be the only drawback. Otherwise I'll skip the adapter and just get the upgrade done....looks like I have plenty of time to do this :( Not...

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

Cool...done. Thanks !! I might still look into re-wiring the circuit.
  36. P

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

I was wired for a leaf which had only 3.3-6.6 kw chargers. This was going to be second part of the question. What is the maximum current draw of LR, and the standard (mobile) charger that comes with M3 ?

    I'll give them a call :)

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

Safety of these adapter's is my main concern. There are several available online. Tesla removed these from the market due to overheating concern. Tesla recalls charging adapters after two reports of plugs overheating

    From Leaf's 6-50R to Tesla 14-50R

Looking to re-configure my NEMA 6-50R receptacle that was part of my LEAF install over to NEMA 14-50R. Quickest way to do this would to just buy "6-50p to 14-50r" adapter form here. Right thing to do would be to change the receptacle to 140-50r. When I opened the electrical box, I noticed I...

Any non-employee get to configure their Model 3 yet?

If that's the case, we can all expect a bump in our delivery dates soon, maybe by several months. It will also effect how many M3 reservation holders would qualify for full fed tax credit.

Effect of speed, air conditioning, and wheels on range

Thanks :) Since we leave very early in the morning around 5-5:30 am to make to the first field by 7am, freeways are pretty clear at that time to speed. So I think if needed, I can stop by the supercharger on the way home as we usually are not rushed coming back. I just checked, there are few...

Effect of speed, air conditioning, and wheels on range

Of course I am sincere. First of all I don't just drive at 70mph. I am more of a 75-80mph type of person. I am sure that is another 10% drop. But I can learn to drive with some zen. Plus when I am in there, my son's games are sometimes 20-30 miles from each other, plus in between games we...

Effect of speed, air conditioning, and wheels on range

In San Diego, I think ever 10-15th car is a Tesla(or it seems). On the freeway, you can find one any time you look. You just don't see too many leaving town going north towards Orange County.
  47. P

Effect of speed, air conditioning, and wheels on range

Wow 23% range decrease for just going 70mph and with A/C on?? No wonder during my occasional San Diego to Irvine drive, I have seen only two Teslas outside San Diego. Even though they are only 75 miles apart. I was hoping that my long range M3 would be sufficient for this trip(weekend soccer...
