    TSLA Investor Discussions

Still the same calculation since you'll be able to by 26/15 as many shares as you would buying it at the current price. That's true. If you are happy at getting in at $14.05 regardless of potential downside from there, it is a pretty good strategy. And if it never goes below $15 you just...

    TSLA Investor Discussions

The current stock price doesn't really have much to do with the return in this case since the strike price is $15 and that is where you will buy in if your puts are called. First let's talk about selling 'naked' puts in which you are not SHORT Telsa shares. If you happen to be long Tesla...

    Hello From Mill Valley California

Hi Patrick, I drive a Roadster 2.5 (EU #0476 ) and am from Mill Valley too... but alas I live in Tokyo now so won't be able to go for a drive anytime soon :-( Enjoy your car, I know you are going to love it!

Paint wearning thin on shift buttons

I stupidly did not get any 'before' pictures, but here is what it looks like after painting and apply contact paper. The P and R buttons look a bit strange in this pic but that's just glare. In reality they look pretty much like new again. Before this was done, the center of the D looks...

What's gone wrong with your Roadster?

My sills, both right and left also got some small cracks in the center toward the rear of the sills. Basically right around where you would put your hand down to lower yourself into the car. The suspicious thing of course was that the cracking was in the exact same spot on both sills. I...

Paint wearning thin on shift buttons

The silver paint on my Roadster's shift buttons, especially the 'D' and 'R' which tend to get pushed the most often, started to wear off and it started giving my center console and old, tired look. Over the weekend I took a whole afternoon to repaint them and then cover them with clear contact...

    What cars have you owned?

Yes, now that you mention it I did have a lot of fond memories with that car too! Mine was a yellow one. It was a bit embarrasing picking up my prom date with it though... would have been nice to have had either of my Roadsters back then (had they existed)

Coda Automotive (formerly Miles Automotive Group)

Let's add a bit more description to that: Coda $39,000 100 miles, small, cheap, slow, looks like a$$ (somebody said that on here somewhere) Model S $49,000 160 miles, gorgeous, luxurious, modern, quick, spacious, aerodynamic makes you wonder what those 8 people who bought Codas were thinking!

    2.0 / 2.5 Roadster / Roadster Sport Tire Thread

Yesterday Tesla installed Toyo's entry level performance DRBs ( 225/45R17 91W) on the my rear wheels. I was just dying to experiment with something cheaper and quieter than the $440 installation included that Tesla Japan charges the stock Yokos. The DRBs cost just $130 each + about $60 per...

What's gone wrong with your Roadster?

Last month I took my Roadster in for its first annual maintenance. The car was in great shape, needed only a new windshield wiper. Over the first year of its life a number of minor problems did occur however. Here is list of what I can remember from the first year / 6500 miles: 1)...

    #1274 - Lightning Green [SOLD ~$88K]

This seems like one of the best deals on a used Roadster 2.5 out there --- can't tell for sure from the pics but it looks like it has an upgraded interior with CF as well as the CF lip on the exterior. Forged wheels as well.

sport or no sport that is the question...?!

Sounds like more of a problem than just the difference between sport and non-sport (3.7 sec vs. 3.9 sec 0-60mph)! The Roadster 2.5 is definately a bit slower off the line than earlier versions, but it catches up quickly and matches earlier versions to achieve the same 0-60 mph. Note that...

    2.0 / 2.5 Roadster / Roadster Sport Tire Thread

At that price tires are going to end up costing you as much as a new battery pack over the first 100,000 miles or so assuming rear tire replacement is needed every 5,000 miles! I was quoted $900 for the rear tires including installation from the Tesla Tokyo dealership, so not quite as bad as...

    Software concerns

The Roadster's systems really don't seem to have any major problems. Once I got some strange tire presssure readings, but other than that everything has functioned perfectly for the first year, 6000 miles on the odometer.

    2.0 / 2.5 Roadster / Roadster Sport Tire Thread

These tires look like the would work with the Roadster. TOYO DRB Rear: 225/45R17 91W Front: 195/50R16 84V These would save a lot of cash obviously, but what would the downside be of using something like this and has anyone tried them?

If you've had dealings with Carbon One, please read.

Actually, the photos of what you just posted are not from chips in the carbon fiber, but rather there is something protruding upward in that spot under the Roadster's door sills causing the damage. I have the exact same thing in the same spot on both my right and left sills, and Alan mentioned...

If you've had dealings with Carbon One, please read.

Here is some good news. The first set of sills will ship to Jaff within the next few days, and the plan from here out is to take care of one set every 2 weeks until the list is taken care of. This is just for door sills of course, but at least half the backlog will be cleared once these...

    I had a minor accident :-(

Thank goodness no injuries or worse! The Roadster really is scary when you are following somebody and have to slam the brakes on. How close were you following, about what speed, and did you start breaking immediately after when the mini-van started slowing? Maybe the most painful part of...

Do you know that you must keep your battery charged?

That's a pretty scary thought... if that was the way the world worked nobody would ever fix anything that was broken simply because they'd be afraid of being sued for admitting their error. If fixing the problem gives them legal issues, can you imagine how bad things would be on them if it came...

    JB Straubel in Tokyo

I know you got it the first time, but somebody else didn't quite seem to understand my point so I thought it might be good to go into a bit more detail. Yes, I was really giving a more of a hypothetical example -- "suppose" that all the Tesla chargers were on highway 1 or some other scenic...

    JB Straubel in Tokyo

I think the only thing they can do is to support CHAdeMO. It's the standard here, and Japan simply won't allow anything else on public or semi-public space (the highway system was privatized a few years back but is basically a government-run industry). There are a number of reasons for this...

    JB Straubel in Tokyo

That's just the irony of some trip planning you currently have to do in order to current HPC network in Japan. Using the US example again, if there were 3 charging stations on highway 1 between Half Moon Bay and Los Angeles, but none within your car's range on I-5, you might actually have to...

    JB Straubel in Tokyo

With the 260 mile round trip drive you are better off with your Model S, but ANY stops will be better with the other vehicles since the Tesla supercharges will be way, way off the main route in almost all cases, and much, much further spread out as well. As I mentioned, the highway system here...

    JB Straubel in Tokyo

That's not what JB said though... I taped the whole thing and I'll get you his exact words later when I have time to listed to it again, but his basic point was this: 1) Model S supercharging is based on a standard very close to CHAdeMO and thus creating an adapter won't pose much of a...
  33. benji4

    JB Straubel in Tokyo

Exactly, the highway system in Japan has put CHAdeMO charge points up at service areas all over the whole country, and I just don't think there is anyway the Model S would sell here without supporting it. The nice thing about the CHAdeMO charge points is that they are right on the highway...

    JB Straubel in Tokyo

Definately good news for the Model S and beyond. I was a bit sad to hear that CHAdeMO will never work with the Roadster though :crying:. CHAdeMO is all over the place in Japan and you have to think that at this point it really is going to become a global standard.
  35. benji4

    JB Straubel in Tokyo

Yes, the do -- they seem to be hedging their bets with the Tesla venture and I think it's very likely that within the next two years Toyota will be rolling out more pure EVs as well as offering hybrid solutions on pretty much their entire product line.

Back from the event, we had a bit of bad luck with a snow storm hitting yesterday causing JB to show up 1:15 minutes late, so instead of running from 6-8pm, he was only able to talk/take questions for about 45 minutes. It was nonetheless an informative, useful disucussion. Here are the main...

Yes, CHAdeMO is also one of the things I'd like to ask him about the most... seems like it might be difficult getting him to discuss metal air / li-ion battery hybrid plans. I'd also like to hear what he has to say about future battery options and charging solutions for the Roadster. It's a...

What's wrong with a car wash?

Coin spay washes are fine as Doug says, just don't get the nozzle too close to the car, especially when you first start washing and/or there is a lot of dirt or mud on the car. Blasting contaminants over the surface of the paint can also damange the finish.
  40. benji4

What's wrong with a car wash?

Very soft paint indeed -- one trip through a machine car wash will put swirls over the complete surface of the car. Even washing by hand can be pretty devistating to the Roadster's finish if you don't know what you are doing. Detailing a car with a soft finish such as the Roadster is a form...

Do you know that you must keep your battery charged?

The bricked battery in Japan was a used Roadster that somebody bought in the US and had shipped over here by boat. The car spent a couple of months at sea and likely some time in storage here before he was able to take delivery. Other than that there have been no bricking incidents here...

Will I be able to charge my roadster?

In Tokyo where I live, many Roadster owners park in lots that have no outlet. What these folks do is just stop by the dealership once per week and charge there which is always free. It's right in the center of town, they get free parking while they charge (saving them $10 per hour on...

How many Roadsters will be produced?

7 or 8 left in Japan, most of them fully loaded special additions. I believe they have been produced and are either here or in the process of arriving. A number of demo cars here also which will probably get sold at some point as well. With the yen where it is right now this is a great...
