Faults: HVAC cable fault; ESS Cable Interlock fault; Vess too low during precharge, t2

They claimed 6 out of 11 sheets are bad. I have the logs, but I’m not savvy enough to know what to look for. My impression is that the members here are far more knowledgeable about the roadster than the people at TSC. If anyone wants to take a peak, it’s emailable. I’d be grateful for your...

Faults: HVAC cable fault; ESS Cable Interlock fault; Vess too low during precharge, t2

Ok, so service center claims that my intermittent shutdowns are due to the battery being out of balance and requiring a replacement at $17k. They said 6 out of the 11 sheets are problematic. I pushed back and questioned why 1) the car would startup and drive normally after 15 min cool down; and...

Beautiful work. I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but San Diego is a great place to live. Any chance we can entice you to move down the coast?

Clunk in rear during initial acceleration

I had the clunk before and eventually tracked down the culprit: it was a loose object in the trunk rolling around when I accelerated. The object was actually a CAN Jr. :-) I put the CAN in a small cardboard box and cured the clink. I hope you have the same “problem.”

Aug 11th, So Cal Roadster Meetup

I loved the pics of so many gorgeous roadsters. I wish I could’ve been there to talk with the owners and get some tips for dealing with some the quirks in person. Thank you for posting the photos to the flicker site.

Faults: HVAC cable fault; ESS Cable Interlock fault; Vess too low during precharge, t2

Dear friends, After driving 40 miles on a hot summer day (no moisture), we received the following error message: “DMC HW: ESS Cable Interlock fault” The car died on the side of the road and we had it towed to the Service Center. After a week, they said it was just a loose cable, maybe they...

Upgrades to the OG Roadster Post Yours

OMG, very nice work on the Roadster. I also live in SD and would love to see it in person sometime. Unfortunately, I think we’ll be on a family vacation while you’re at the car show. Nonetheless, I love your mods!

Rear driver door won’t open from the outside.

is this just another instance of my trying to learn the Tesla way of opening the rear door or is this an actual problem that will require a trip to the service center?

No Brainer 4" drop-in speaker upgrade phenomenon

My apologies for the delay. It didn’t have any special enclosure. I think it was just an unremarkable speaker, maybe 5”. They first removed the old one, and if memory serves, there was a ring around the speaker lip with teeth so that the speaker could look into the opening. I think they removed...

    Leaking coolant

The problem is that now that the car’s been towed to the TSC, they will certainly want to replace everything with new parts. I just started to get the annual service nag screens indicating Service is due in 3w. I might as well add that to the bill. I hope to have some answers early this week.

    Leaking coolant

Damn. I have a coolant leak leak also. My leak appears to be coming from the larger black pipe that runs about 10” from the reservoir and connects to something just behind the passenger door. It looks tough to access. I also noticed that 2 of the orange electrical lines near the coolant...

Hello from a total Roadster newbie (but not roadster newbie) & fundamental questions

I wouldn’t attempt a road trip until you become more familiar with the charging needs. Finding a charger can be a major hassle. I recommend paying a few hundred dollars to have the car transported and, if. It already in place, spend the weekend getting your home charger ready.

    PEM failure after annual service

Within 3w of getting the car serviced, I had some error messages. I took the car to the service center and got the bad news that it was a PEM failure. I thought I read here somewhere that it's possible that it's a PEM fuse and not the entire PEM so I pushed back and asked the foreman to...

No Brainer 4" drop-in speaker upgrade phenomenon

Everything is working reasonably well on the sound system. I don't know that my sound system actually strained the 12v excessively. I think the lead acid battery was just due for replacement as they often don't last for more than a year. I replaced it with a weak lithium ion battery and haven't...

    Reset airbag warning light?

Problem solved: it was a disconnected (or poorly connected) wire to the seat belt tensioner/retractor/thingy behind and up near the driver's shoulder. Many thanks once again to Wiztecy and MLAUTO for helping me point the installer to the correct location. No reset was required. It's a big...

The problem is I purchased a Chinese clone of the device and I'm unable to get a USB connection. The provided drivers don't work with Windows 10 x64, documentation is terrible, and I can't find updated drivers on the net. I don't have a Windows 7 laptop. Uggh..

I'm heading to the stereo shop tomorrow (finally) to see if they can remedy the airbag warning light that was on after they upgraded the audio system. The Wiztecy Lotus manual is going to be very helpful for troubleshooting. Since the seats were removed, I'm going to stick with Wiztecy's...

Buying a Roadster now - what to be aware of?

I've been there too! In addition to the dexterity required to get in and out of the car, your father will need to be able to stand for long periods of time. I find myself standing in the garage staring at the roadster.

Buying a Roadster now - what to be aware of?

Read the fine print in the advertisements. Mine was dipped in something called "Spanish Fly," which I thought was some kind of urban myth from 1980s frathouse comedies. It turns out it's a real thing. And, it's overrated. I thought I'd have all the young hotties on me with the roadster. Ok, I'll...

    HPWC Not charging!

I called Charlie at Clipper Creek and he helped us figure out what was wrong. The strain relief on the heavy cable connected to the wall mount was loose. HPWC Not charging!

The crap 110v charger is working just fine. My working theory is that the switch is busted. It seems as though the switch now doesn't have as robust of a click when locked. I wonder how that can be fixed. The 110v is intolerably slow.

    HPWC Not charging!

today, when I attach the roadster to the HPWC connector, it's not registering the connection. The green light on the wall unit is on. The VDS says: "Preparing to Charge Connect power cable" When i slide up the lock, nothing happens. No blue light. Nothing. Just the usual white light from the...

    How does a roadster drive

The roadster is bumpy, creaky, has lousy visibility, and a ton of other quirks. It's a pain to get things repaired, the stock audio system is HORRIBLE. But, it's an awesome car!
