So who's all about that hypermiling?

I'm buying an EV so I can drive like a knob and not feel bad about it, no hypermiling for me.

Ah, you are correct. I was reading the Test weight from the EPA report which lists the 4,250 number as the Equivalent Test Weight. The EPA actual weight of an unloaded 3 was 3,837 lbs.

With a similar battery to the base S, a more advanced motor, and similar curb weight, I really don't see how there could not be performance left on the table.

    HVAC UI design sucks

Most nav screens only permit limited functions out of voice commands while driving due to liability concerns. The EULA for Google Maps even has a chunk in there telling you to expressly NOT interact manually with Google maps while driving. The fatality rate decreased during the vast majority...

    HVAC UI design sucks

Car dashboards that act like smart phones raise safety issues From the above: “You can’t be looking at a screen and be looking at the road at the same time,” said David Strayer, a professor of cognition and neural science at the University of Utah, who has written several studies on distracted...

    HVAC UI design sucks

That comment is a little harsh confronted with the reality that a touchscreen is more dangerous to operate than physical controls while driving. I know the 3 is a incredibly safe car, and is intended to be the next step towards autonomous vehicles, but the added danger of the touchscreen...

Reference on a the aerodynamics not being effected? Im not an aerodynamicist [but I do like to hold my hand out of the car and pretend it is an airplane] but I'm not sure how bolting a box onto the front of a car would go unnoticed by the laws of nature.

    HVAC UI design sucks

I think we will find many people polarized by the touch screen. While driving, a tactile experience helps you keep your eyes on the road and your focus where it needs to be. When not driving, touchscreens allow us to generate Human to Machine interfaces that can do almost anything. With the...

    Vendor Model 3 Aftermarket Wheels

I agree with your frustration on the surface, but have spoken to a few engineers and it does take a bit more math to figure out how to make something that looks good actually perform well. Does it cost $1,500 more in math per car?? Hell no! ... but it does cost more.

Academic Exercise - Effect of the end of Federal Rebate on M3 CPO pricing

If the EV was being produced offshore I would agree that this administration would probably nix it in short order; however, as a "Made in the USA" vehicle I just don't see that happening until Tesla, and probably GM, have made it through all of the available credits. For some context...

    Vendor Model 3 Aftermarket Wheels

The turbine wheels look great! The only catch is being able to undercut the price of the factory options. Considering I will take delivery with the stock wheels, I am looking at needing new tires as well. If the wheels could come in close to $1000 a set, I think you would have trouble keeping...

Why regenerative braking belongs on the brake pedal

I love the thought, but a roadster is just out of my price range. I have been a fan ever since the Top Gear UK episode and I hope to own one someday when I'm a few rungs higher on the ladder. I'll have fingers crossed that they make it adjustable.

Why regenerative braking belongs on the brake pedal

I have infact, at the Decatur location in ATL. It is the best car I have ever driven, I actually feel let down by my DD after doing so. That being said, I loved the one pedal solution when I was putsing around town or on the highway, but when I grabbed a big bunch of "go" in an off-ramp I was...

Why regenerative braking belongs on the brake pedal

Then you are doing it right! Slowish in faster out; however, as a few posts after yours pointed out, most people don't do that but instead brake in the turns. 90-95% of the time it wont bite you. Some of that is due to ESC and some of that is due to good modern tires. It seems that the more...

Why regenerative braking belongs on the brake pedal

According to Tesla, the Model S has a 48% front 52% rear weight distribution, it is a reverse pendulum-but not much of one. An F-150 has a heavy engine up front, a large cabin, and then an empty box at the back. I could not find anything on it's weight distribution (because no one cares about...

Lease ending before Model 3 arrives, what to do?

Yeah, agree with everyone on running from the Leaf. It looked neat at the time but in retrospect it was a crap half-a$$ed attempt by Nissan and will be worth less than a new TV after the M3 comes out.

Why regenerative braking belongs on the brake pedal

I am blown away buy the amount of arrogant and willfully ignorant hate over a guy pointing out the practical effects of regen on the throttle. If your "rebuttal" doesn't include an empirical rebuke of the science at hand, the it holds no relevance but feel free to exercise your freedom of...

What's the typical tread life we could expect on those 20"version of wheels on model 3?

I run Hankook rubber for street and track. If they use S1 Noble2s for the car you can expect 40k regardless of any wheel size.

Why no regen braking system in actual brakes as well as motor regen?

Regen braking can either create great brake feel or make a car into a death machine. I think that the more they make it feel like a regular car the better. From what I hear about the budget EV/Hybrids above is that they skimped on the programming of their ABS logic Also, I replaced the...

    Dual motor efficiency

The problem is that you still have weight transfer - hence the 70% is inescapable...because physics. 44. Craig9080

    Dual motor efficiency

70% of braking force is generated by the front axle. With a single motor M3 you will be wasting all of this as heat on a traditional brake disk, with a D you will be able to recoup some of it. Also, the regen will be much better as it will feel a lot more like traditional braking as opposed to...

Just like they have ludicrous mode for performance, I want a D-bag mode for the autopilot. Tailgating, brake stomping, cutting people off, loud music, that sort of thing.
