Got my invite yesterday, want to hold out for dual motor but not sure what actual "options" will be included with it. Has this been posted somewhere that I missed? Trying to decide what to do here, soon...
How does the AP decide course of action given a "no win" situation?
Something/someone is going to get hit. Take the hit head-on since the car knows it can survive since the crash is determined to be within it's safety parameters? Hard veer and potentially collide with a non-involved car...
This is the desired response that Tesla/Elon wants to see. I am very much onboard with the whole master plan approach they have taken, showing the world (and most importantly other auto makers) that EVs will not only work but will be embraced. Big keys include driving range at a reasonable...
I like the fact that my super-quiet Leaf can take most of the cars/trucks up here that just have to pull up beside me at the light up here (yes, small town place, one light on the highway). No big revving noise or stinky smoke but I love full torque at 0MPH.
I love this thought that the Powerwall would let you piggyback onto the car, allowing for both charging and discharging. Solves several problems at once and creates a linkage between Tesla products.
The car is, after-all, a rather large Powerwall with wheels and autopilot...
The two products don't really compete though. For $3K the powerwall gives me a great way to store/use electricity (solar or from the grid) or for $35K the Model 3 gives me a great ride with some extraordinary feature. Oh, and by the way, it could be used as backup to power the house.
Thing...
Our power went out on Friday out here for about 5-6 hrs and I was reading that my little old Leaf had enough juice to power the house for much longer than that.
Was curious if Tesla Motors was thinking about this kind of application as I started looking for backup generators and then...
Denver, arrived at 8:00 to a deceptive line (store is in a mall), looked like a dozen people and I was told to head upstairs. Saw a secondary line of about 80 people, figured that was pretty good, got the end and was told to head outside in the snow. The line out there was about another 100...
Don't think I'll know until I can see the overall car with options. I'm very much a dark color person and the darker colors are great but could look strange unless the rims/wheels are properly colored. Not sure on the cost of all that, so, will have to wait a bit I guess...
Maybe there will be a plug-less option that would use inductive charging. The charger in my garage is set up to charge my Leaf (front end) so will have to decide how to handle a read-left port...
My Leaf came with a special inflator and a can of sealant that you attach to it that will inflate the tire and seal the puncture. Nice not having to lug a spare around but still haven't gotten to road test how well it actually works (hope I don't have too...)
My understanding is the superchargers are meant for longer distance travel and not for everyday charging. I know with my Leaf I pretty much have to charge for an hour or so over lunch each day (80 mile commute) but with the 200+ mile range of the M3, I would charge at home every other day or...
Driving both a Leaf and Jeep Wrangler at the moment (Leaf has issues in Colorado snow, thus the Jeep backup). Lease on the Leaf is up in a year or so, so I suppose it will be 100% back to the Jeep.
I bought the GE EV Charger for my Leaf a couple years ago, works fine, nothing fancy and certainly not quick but works great for an overnight charge. Imagine I'll stick with it once the M3 appears....
One service center in the Denver area right now seems a bit..low considering there were hundreds of us in line Thursday morning. Not sure doubling the number will fix things.
Will need to check on the lease early termination fee for my silly Leaf...still have a year or so left and could stash that toward the M3. Might depend on where gas prices go in the next few months...
Would love for my parking garage to offer a charging station or two (there is at least one other Leaf that parks there). And I would be happy to pay extra to use it. I like to think the days of corded charging will pass soon and inductive, automatic charging would be a customer-loyalty thing...
Not needing huge distance (been driving a Leaf for 2 years now to get to work). Am interested in all wheel drive, a winter package and the autopilot features. Nice to have the full glass top and full access to the Supercharger network if that's really not included.
Concerned about the lack of instruments but not really sure how final the design is at this point. Love the rest and find it funny how much the front end has grown on me :)
Love the whole glass thing and glad it will be an option, will need to see more details before I choose but the combo of Colorado mountains, autopilot and a big glass bubble car sounds great to me (repairs and cost aside, of course).
Have to admit that I'm a believer in whole Tesla Master Plan thing. So, yes, sight-unseen I waiting in the cold/snow of Denver for 3 hours outside and an hour inside (showroom is at a Mall). Was very please with the reveal but can't wait for more details in the coming weeks/months.
Was fun...
