The last time I used all the energy in my traction battery...

Just in case I wanted to 'push things' right up to the limit. (FYI, I've driven a car ~3 miles when it read 0 miles in the battery). Done that, not doing it again.

What is your rated miles when starting a SuperCharge session?

I'm thinking of starting a poll that describes "When you ran out of juice, how far were you from the SuperCharger, HPWC or other decent charging apparatus." Probably too few people to get any meaningful information. But it would be good to hear how people got themselves into that jam, e.g...

    Improved Supercharger Information

As a hacker, and part time evil genius, I need to come up with some kind of fake "Elon Musk public Service announcement". I would transmit a (falsely) live video feed from an ersatz Elon Musk to the cars sitting at the Supercharger 5 minutes up the road. The public service announcement would...

I WON! Thanks to this forum!

I've gotta ask. How does the vanguard NEMA 14-50 installer handle it when a second person at the complex wants to charge their Tesla? Is the spot dedicated to you alone? How are the electricity costs distributed?

What is your rated miles when starting a SuperCharge session?

I don't know why the original text was cut off: Round up to the nearest 10. Thus 1 mile is selected by 10 miles.

Has anyone charged up at a gas station?

I too am a cyclist. I'm thinking of a better way: install a extra small gear in the front rings, and an extra big gear in the rear cassette of the bicycle. Now add a tow rope, and you are ready to go! Just like a mountain, except with a car behind you.

Has anyone charged up at a gas station?

OK, there is a 'degraded' refuel experience, and then there is an outright fail, which is what Bjorn demonstrated. His comment "I'm now get to burn some calories so I can eat a burger" -- while pushing his car, is very nearly a disaster. If he had 500 meters to go rather than 100 meters, he...

Has anyone charged up at a gas station?

...specifically, a gas station that lacks EV chargers, but has plenty of conventional wall outlets on a convenient exterior wall? This would be something to do if you have 8 miles on your Rated Range, (warm temps; no wind; level ground) but 10 miles to your SuperCharger. Can the Rated Range...

    Model 3 Supercharging Capable Discussion

If I were to guess, I would say that Tesla will give SuperCharging free for first 12 months, and then let people do a pay-as-you go arrangement after that. Tesla benefits two ways on that. First, they don't need to invest in the software/infrastructure to bill for 3+ years. Second, they get ALL...

Is Tesla really a green company?

OK, I see the 'Tesla on the road' as a "conversation starter" to get others to think about steps they can take and even if it is worth it, to reduce CO2 output. In other words, driving the car is both altruistic and symbolic of the actual idea of each of us adjusting our habits.

Is Tesla really a green company?

AudobonB makes some good points. Paraphrasing: "putting CO2 numbers on the dashboard does nothing more than make the driver feel good." I would go one step further. It results in one of three kinds of reactions in the driver: I've done my part today, time to stoke the propane space heaters...

Is Tesla really a green company?

Liuping, that is an excellent answer! I may be on the road to just that result -- except that in Texas, the cost will probably be 20-30% more since we don't get as much sunshine in Dallas as I expect you do in San Diego. Anyway, some hunting on the net yielded me this site, which advocates for...

Is Tesla really a green company?

I'll start looking at sites -- United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) - Error page -- . My angle on this is from the point of view of a software developer. The data is out there. When it comes to the grid, there are finite boundaries to each of the major grids in the U.S. The driver...

Is Tesla really a green company?

FallenOne, I think this is an issue that is bigger than just the EV v. ICE debate. As I sit on my patio admiring a cool sunny day, I ask myself, "FakeStewart, if you were to pick one project to do this year, a) install 5kW solar array on your roof; or b) buy a Model S, which would you do?"...

Is Tesla really a green company?

FallenOne, thanks for your comments. I believe Tesla, over the years, will work to minimize the CO2 impact of the supply chain and assembly process (maybe throw in some battery recycling too). My concern, is that although MPG and eMPG are a good start to giving some hints to the efficiency of...

Is Tesla really a green company?

OK, so I watched the Elon Musk Model 3 presentation. He spoke, initially, of the horrors of climate change. So, I'm wondering how much does Tesla care about climate change? So I hunted through a recent Model S manual looking for keywords: CO2, greenhouse, carbon, emissions and climate. Among...

    Best to share... when?

Surely, a smart Tesla employee could whip up some SuperCharger controller code to bar spurious clicks? I mean, Tesla can afford to send out Vehicle Charging Specialists to busy supercharger sites to valet people's cars in and out of the chargers... am I right?
  29. FakeStewartAlsop

    Best to share... when?

OK, I stand corrected. Then in a pair of charging cars, the first-in gets 'all it can eat' of the 135 kW, unless somebody tampers with car1, in which case car 1 gets a sudden step-down in charging kW. At which point, a war of the clicks begins :(

    Best to share... when?

So, I'm an aspiring Model S owner. I'm aware, that when a SuperCharger gets busy, its best to try to use unpaired stalls, since the 'A' side shares power with the 'B' side. In other words, both cars in the A/B paired stalls max out at 60kW ... which is not much of an issue if the incumbent...

Tesla Employees have started taking Model 3 reservations

You have to admit, they will a) work harder during the initial rollout; and b) drop fewer of the parts during assembly, knowing that they might be assembling their own car, their buddy's car or their spouses car. You know, all the stuff they _haven't_ been doing with the Model X. ;)

I just got off the phone with my State Farm agent, asking for Texas quote on a new Model S70 with minimum Liability coverage, and a deductible of $500 for Collision/Comprehensive. Quote is for $1766 annually. Now I posed this puzzler to them. Say my S70 is charging overnight at a hotel, and...

From the Model S manual: To open the rear doors, fold back the edge of the carpet below the rear seats to expose the mechanical release cable. p. 8 Has anyone tried this? With power on or even power off? The local Tesla representative had no idea how to do this. I'm wondering if my kids would...
