New purchase option - Steering Wheel

Yoke or round, all I want is a honk button in the middle. I don't honk enough to develop any muscle memory for the new honk button and then when I do need it in an emergency I can't find it. Just put it back in the middle and you can keep your stalks.

    Poll: FWD on Model Y

I'm asking this poll here on the Model X forum because I want real opinions from people who have lived with the falcon wing doors for awhile, not just demo'd it in the store or just read about it. With the rumors of the Model Y unveil sometime this year, all I have been reading online is that...

Damaged by FWD on the first day...

Sorry to hear that. :( Did you have the same damage as mine? For me, the SC did not handle the repair. Tesla said that this was a collision repair and not a warranty repair so they referred me to a local body shop that they do a lot of work with. The shop had to replace and adjust the...

    Wall charger button stopped working.

Apparently it's a known issue with the last update and will get resolved with the next one.
  6. indy360

    Wall charger button stopped working.

Took it to the Service Center. It was a firmware issue and they fixed it via an update. Easy enough.
  7. indy360

    Wall charger button stopped working.

So two days ago the charger door stopped opening when I pressed the wall charger button. If I press the charger door it opens. How do I figure out whether it's the wall charger that's malfunctioning or the car?

AP 2.0 Retrofit sounds possible - or Am I crazy

There is always going to be better. AP2 can detect 10 cars on the road, AP3 maybe 20. AP2 can react, maybe AP3 can do some basic predicting based on car movement. Maybe AP4 can see intent based on what the driver is looking at in another car. Just because it's Level 5 doesn't mean it can't...

    Tilted tow hitch

So it looks like I'm not the only one. I'll bring it in to the SC and see what they say. Just bugs me having everything tilted.
  10. indy360

    Tilted tow hitch

I finally got a bike rack and installed it with the tow hitch. After mounting it I saw that the bike rack was noticeably tilted to one side. The driver side was lower than the passenger side. I took out my level and saw that the hitch is angled relative to the car. It's maybe 2-3 degrees off...

AC and fan keeps turning on when not in car.

Turning off preconditioning appears to have worked for me so far. Thanks for the recommendation!
  12. indy360

AC and fan keeps turning on when not in car.

And, no, I don't have the new update that keeps the car cool automatically. Plus this has been happening for months.
  13. indy360

AC and fan keeps turning on when not in car.

I have a question that I've been meaning to ask for awhile. I've noticed that when I park my car in the garage, with the charger plugged in, that sometimes the fan would go on. For awhile, I thought that it was just cooling the batteries, but it would happen when I haven't driven the car in...

Seat backs holding up very well.

So, three months in, with daily use shuttling a 5 year old and a 2.5 year old around, and I'm happy to say that the seat backs are holding up very well. Shown is the seat back where the 2.5 year old sits. I am definitely not one to baby my car and both kids wear their shoes in the car. The...

    Carseats for Model X???

Clek looks great and works wonderfully. They have a taller base than the other car seats that I've had so it does hit the front seat a little earlier when you tilt the second row seats forward.

    Powder Coated 20" Factory Wheels.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Did not notice the question. To be honest the shop did everything and I actually don't know how they did it. I did not receive any warnings of durability issues however. I have not washed the car since it was done but it's holding up well FWIW.

Just noticed that yesterday after the recent update. Much better now.

    Glossy seat backs + kids

I gave up immediately in terms of keeping the seat back looking glossy and nice. With 2 kids (one 5 years old and one 2.5) it's going to be futile keeping it clean. And guess what? I ended up not caring at all and I feel so much better. Anyway, it's actually holding up quite well. The kids...

    Model X on Top Gear

I'm sure they'll make fun of the doors somehow, which is too bad because I really like the doors.

    Powder Coated 20" Factory Wheels.

I haven't done a direct comparison between the the factory Onyx wheels and my powder coated wheels. The guy said that he has seen it and said that the closest match is the satin black. I don't need an exact match to factory Onyx so even 90% there was good enough for me.
  21. indy360

    Powder Coated 20" Factory Wheels.

Yeah, I asked them to match the factory 22" Onyx black wheels, which has the same blacked out center caps and lugs.
  22. indy360

    Powder Coated 20" Factory Wheels.

Never had any wheels powder coated so I don't know what was reasonable. Most places I looked quoted about the same turnaround time. The price is also about par for LA as far as I know. Ended up going with Exoticar because of their Yelp reviews and Anthony seemed like a very straight up...
  23. indy360

    Powder Coated 20" Factory Wheels.

No problem. Welcome to Pasadena. Definitely happy with powercoating the wheels. For the X of any color, the dark wheels ALWAYS make the car look better IMO. I haven't seen a single color with dark wheels that looks bad, and there have been a lot of X's in the neighborhood.
  24. indy360

    Powder Coated 20" Factory Wheels.

Got them done at Exoticar in Westwood. Anthony's the guy and he is very responsive and nice. Lot's of Teslas go through there. They're right behind the Tesla Service Center actually. $200/wheel. Turn around time is 2-3 days. I had to leave my car there for the duration.
  25. indy360

    Powder Coated 20" Factory Wheels.

I know some people have been interested in powder coating the factory wheels. Just had mine done in satin black. Turned out pretty well I think. I always thought that the silver factory 20" wheels look very small compared to the car. Turning them black I think tricks your eyes into seeing...

Musk at Code conference 2016: Model X is quite sublime at this point.

Let's hope he's right. I love the FWD and yes, it is a software problem, so completely fixable. Durability is yet to be seen but that's a separate issue. To me, being complex doesn't mean it'll be unreliable. A gas engine is exponentially more complex than a falcon wing door and yet most...

Will voice alerts be helpful? (Poll)

I've been thinking about the user interface of the Tesla lately because of all the news about user error, etc. With all the different dings and other alarms going off from the interface, there can be both sensory overload and alarm fatigue, to the point where the user either ignores it or is...

Do I really need to setup Wifi?

Thanks for the advice. I just ordered a powerline adapter with Wifi built in from TP-Link, so we'll see how that one works. The ZyXel one looks really good, but I don't really want to have to get a separate access point just for the Tesla since my new router services all my other equipment well.
  32. indy360

Do I really need to setup Wifi?

My understanding is that merely installing a wifi extender will decrease the throughput of your entire wifi network, which is why I'm hesitant to install it just for this purpose. My new router has very good range and with my phone I'm getting a good signal in the garage. Like others have...
  33. indy360

Do I really need to setup Wifi?

My Wifi signal is pretty weak in the garage and in the driveway. So much so that often I cannot summon or connect to the car because it's able to get a signal (so doesn't use LTE), but the signal is so weak that transmission is off/on. It's very annoying. I want to just turn the Wifi off and...

How would you like to see the Auto Pilot improved?

It needs to be smarter when on the right lane of the freeway. It does not do well when dealing with cars trying to merge. I don't know if it has the ability to read lights on the cars in front of me but if the car is feathering the breaks in front of me then it should slowly leave a bigger gap...

Neighboring car change while FWD is open

No. I checked before I posted. It closes by the same arc it opened with.

Clear protective film kits for the X

Does anyone have recommendations for a full wrap in the Los Angeles area?
  39. indy360

Neighboring car change while FWD is open

Perhaps an easy fix would just have the door close using the minimal arc by default regardless of how it opens. This way it will minimize but not guarantee it hitting anything on the way back down.

    Fitting bikes inside the car

Let me see about the measurements tonight. My wife has the car right now. I slid the bike in through the back and didn't have to adjust the 2nd row seats, which was all the way back. Now having thought about it, I would always put the 2nd row seats in the forward tilted position when putting...

Damaged by FWD on the first day...

Yeah, I'll definitely keep the forum updated. I just got the inspection from the insurance company and will be taking it to the body shop next week for them to do the tear down and get a real estimate. My biggest fear at this point is having to wait weeks or months for a part. All I hope is...

Damaged by FWD on the first day...

I just checked again and it is now a relatively loud and continuous beeping when driving with the door open. Either it was there and I just completely spaced out, or it got updated with the most recent OTA update two days ago. I guess it doesn't matter at this point.
  43. indy360

Damaged by FWD on the first day...

The warning is definitely subtle, like the seat belt off sound on a plane. Just a ding. The screen doesn't flash red or anything like that unfortunately. Hopefully this will be addressed in a future update.

    Fitting bikes inside the car

Yup, Moots. Love it and a keeper for life. :)

    Fitting bikes inside the car

Actually, come to think of it, I tried to fit the bike in with the two 2nd row seats fully back. I think if you lean one of the 2nd row seats all the way forward as if you're going into the 3rd row, I bet you can easily fit the 61 in the same way I did. When you're done, just move the 2nd row...

    Fitting bikes inside the car

That's actually not a bad idea. I can paint it and velcro it onto the floor so it's more stable.

    Model X configuration questions

I have the 90D without the premium package. Front seats are not perforated. The driver's door does close when you step on the brake. It also will motor open when you press the door handle. It will swing open wide if it doesn't detect an obstacle and only slightly ajar if it does. It's...
  48. indy360

    Fitting bikes inside the car

No, if I pulled the bike so that the fork reached the cargo cover, then the front chain ring will have to be on top of the folded down 3rd row seats, which would then make the seat go through the roof. Won't work that way unfortunately.
  49. indy360

Damaged by FWD on the first day...

Hmm...I definitely was able to move the car. The warning sound was soft and the sign on the dash I guess was not sufficient to cue me in. Not saying there is a design error, just distracted I guess.
  50. indy360

    Fitting bikes inside the car

Perhaps this is what you were looking to accomplish? I was just able to fit my 54cm road bike in between the two second row seats. Any larger frame would have required you to lower the seat. What I really wanted to do was to attach a fork lock onto the floor so that it would stay upright, but...
