Tesla Auto Pilot kept me safer than ever today

AP is like having an extra driver. When pilots crash a plane in autopilot they don't look at the autopilot as responsible for the plane. Some people are pathetic. Tesla had to state they weren't turning it off during investigation. As if. It would be like disallowing seatbelt use because...

To Buy & Sell, To Cancel or To Hope and Pray for the Best

1000 miles in and no problems. I would not generally report when things were going well, I would only bring up problems. Forums are terrible for statistics because they have built in bias.

New 85D owner, long distance travel question

My simple answer: Fill up when you are low. Like an ICE car. This is being over-thought. You have lots of options. After driving electric cars for over three years I have found charging planning equal to gas planning. Mostly easier because of the gas station I have at home! Oh, BTW...

    Charging in the Rain?

I was shocked and killed by my UMC. Turns out you are not supposed to lick it. Didn't say that in the manual. I'd sue, but I'm a ghost now, and spend my time starting threads in the investor forum like "Elon hired aliens to buy Model S's and dump them on Mars in order to inflate the stock...

I'll beat all you New Englander's to Dedham (maybe Hingham). This time I want to be at the head of the line. Took me a while to save for my S.

Q: Tesla Financing - How Long To Wait?

If you are truly nervous about your credit call people. I learned when younger, ask questions and people will help! There are many banks that you can tell them your numbers and they'll tell you very likely what will happen. Talk to three or four and you'll feel very confident.

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

When you remove the awesome data from this post (wk, okashira, others), this is all you hear: One side: We want Tesla to be different in every way and this includes reporting brutally honest real world (instead of nameplate ) battery capacity numbers despite what ALL other companies do...

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

Annoyed. And under this scenario I have even less of an idea of what I am buying. This discussion is largely empty air without knowledge of what the nameplate capacity of the cells are and the specific draw.

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

This thread would be greatly helped if we had an answer to how the 85 was calculated, even if it was just marketing mumbo jumbo (which I think is totally possible and no more or less slimy than any other car manufacturer). I still love my five acre plot (4.9), my 55 inch TV (not 55), my AC...

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

Ahh, some math I can help with! 4/5 = 80% 81/85 = 95.3% So its more like a 4.76 liter engine was sold That's if you take the OP data at face value... Less to write home about eh? Oh and BTW, I don't care about how many liters, I care about power. But wait, you're telling me I'm sold a...

How Autopilot has added years to my life.

I planned on writing this post. You saved me the effort. Could not have written it better. I would add that Tesla's trip planner and range predictor are leagues above any other BEV (I've owned two others). It ranged from 0-10 degrees F out tonight, and the percentage at destination was...

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

Isn't there room for both wk and flathilll in this thread? Wk you do a disservice to your data and cause if you give up so easily. Your data speaks for itself, and I think flathilll theories or knowledge have a place too. Nothing either of you are saying disproves the other. And if either of...

A Model S caught fire while supercharging in Norway (link in Norwegian)

Everyone who thinks Tesla should comment on this has never worked with or against a high powered lawyer. Try it sometime, it's eye opening.

Can Narrow Track Vehicles form the missing link?

The issue is people not the tools. As long as there is a tool that will let the buyer imagine he/she can drive themselves and a few of their friends around in high style, that's what they will choose. Even if only twice a year they have more than one person in the car. It's the choices we...

85 kWh battery removed from design studio

I hate it when car companies improve their offerings, and make me pay more for more. I want to pay less for more. A lot less. And I want it now. (/sarcasm) I'm hoping my 85D (being delivered the 22nd or so) is truly the 90 pack underneath the hood. More buffer and I paid less. You all...

Anyone have a stranded experience? What did your do?

I did in my Leaf once. Annoyingly the miles left disappears when you go below a certain number (8 I think). I was a mile from home. It was like 10 degrees out. Cold is tough on range.

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

One other thing worth noting: Battery degradation and charge rate are NOT specs Tesla publishes, therefore in a true discussion about the "gas tank" analogy not working, you have to recognize that in neither case are there specifications that cover wear and tear on the energy storage device...

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

Challenge: Someone post the year, make and model of a car that meets all it's written specifications. What, my 12V battery isn't actually 12 volts at all times? I wasn't able to use all the gas in my 20 gallon gas tank? A "2 by 4" isn't actually two by four inches!!! I'm suing everyone, my...

    Overnight Test Drive Option?

I had an extended test drive overnight when I mentioned I wanted to see how it would work on my commute. The main issue was scheduling, their cars are in constant demo. Otherwise, no qualification, no worries, easiest and best test drive experience I've ever done.

    Where autopilot shines...

AP is the number one reason I'll be buying. Number 2 is EV. Number 3 is a LCD gauges (all cars should have this by now.). Numbers 4...5...6, ah forget it, it's all been covered before. Most impressive bit of engineering I've ever flown, er driven. If (as some people think) Elon is doing...

Tesla Priorities: Refine Autopilot or Fix Everything Else?

For me: Waze >> Tesla >>>> Comand. Put Waze on Tesla screen = Heaven. The Tesla phone connectivity worked fine for me in my limited testing. Maybe I'll change my mind when I start using it regularly.

Tesla Priorities: Refine Autopilot or Fix Everything Else?

This thread cracks me up. Is anyone in this thread that is proposing management changes at Tesla a qualified visionary who has shown up all their competition with a truly disruptive product? Anyone able to state the last year a successful car company was started? With a completely different...

Get ready for a *lot* of crap on Forbes

Actually let's keep it on track, there are plenty of threads where people can insist that Autopilot means something it doesn't. For my part, Forbes was already SPAM, so I think this is consistent with their recent history.

Get ready for a *lot* of crap on Forbes

Tesla is not in control, the driver is in control. Just like an airline pilot is, just like I am in a car with cruise control, just like a machine tool operator is in control of their Machine. Lawyers can put anyone on a lawsuit, but they can't absolve the driver of all responsibility. It...
