    Nurburgring and Plaid

I think some here are wildly optimistic about the complexity of the braking system. If someone here has done it and actually races their car I’d be interested in hearing from you. I’ve done this to my racing bikes back in the day and it isn’t trivial to have it done right. None the less Plaid...

    Nurburgring and Plaid

You’re may be missing my point. No doubt a single owner can modify their Tesla. But how reliable and practical are those aftermarket mods going to be for everyday use cases vs factory OEM integrated or developed parts. Then if something goes wrong, can Tesla or your aftermarket supplier support...

    Nurburgring and Plaid

I think you’re right that brake upgrades aren’t a big deal in general but Tesla’s aren’t just any car. A race enthusiast shop could do it, but the average Plaid customer may have to think about the way FSD and other systems are calibrated to work with the braking system. Also considering how...

    Nurburgring and Plaid

Hi Andy it’s me. I think it’s too soon to compare and draw too many conclusions these cars with one off runs. I’d say that Tesla has vastly improved Model S from where it was with Raven and earlier. But it still seems to lack the refinement of the Porsche and it’s making it up with power and...

    Nurburgring and Plaid

Model 3 and Model S have longer real world cruise range than Taycan by a small margin. Let’s say a Taycan will get 225 to 275 miles in the real world. By contrast a Tesla will go 250 to 350 miles depending on the year model and trim. However in an endurance race the Taycan will beat the Teslas...

    Nurburgring and Plaid

Not yet I’d say probably not for a while in anything resembling a car you can buy. It’s extremely difficult to get a time like Taycan did. Porsche has so much experience with circuit tracks and building sports cars that I think a lot of people don’t understand. There’s a lot more to this than...

Most people wouldn’t. But that’s not the point. More range reduces the frequency of charging stops.

I’m on a 6000 mile road-trip, so yes, I have, and no, they aren’t much more frequent than 100 miles apart. If you don’t believe it, take note of distance between Jackson, MS and Hattiesburg, MS. There are no Superchargers between those cities.

    500 + Mile Range Debate

You’re using 400 miles of rated range per day?
  13. Darthamerica

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

To me this is an rationalization. Sure you could charge to 200 miles 15 min under perfect conditions, but that assumes you are going to achieve EPA rated range which of course are fiction. The reality is you’ll arrive and find out that the Supercharger is full. Or it doesn’t charge at the higher...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

Tesla will make the 500 mile car. But what was promised during battery day was simply not possible to build in the timeframe that was suggested. It’s not even the same car with all of the chassis changes. Until Tesla is able to mass produce such a car, they would rather sell you the Plaid...

True but there’s a difference between a 5 min gas stop and 30 min charging session.

    500 + Mile Range Debate

Five hundred miles isn't "needed." I'm currently on a ~6000 Mile road trip from Cali to MS and back in a 2015 MS P90D with over 100k miles on the original battery. My R Max is currently ~233 to 235 miles at complete SoC. I had zero issues going the 2000 miles from CA to MS. The closest...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

400 miles of range or even 1000 miles of range simply delays the inevitable range anxiety. Once you need to charge, unlike an ICE, you don’t have the option to drive a few miles to a gas station. And when after you find the charges within your 100 mile radius, you’ve got to wait for it to charge...
  18. Darthamerica

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

Even with 500+ miles of range it wouldn’t be “enough”. It’s not that the cars have insufficient range. Far from it. It’s because EV charging infrastructure is still scarce. Especially for people just coming from an ICE vehicle where you can get gas anywhere in single digit minutes. Until that’s...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

I tried to warn people about this on the Tesla forums. Plaid is incredible but it’s not going to deliver on the crazy promises made without major design changes.

Why AP 2.0 Won't Be Here Soon, and It Won't Be What You Think It Is

I think this is reasonable. I've got about 20,000 AP miles and have seen the gradual improvements. I think there's a lot of room for improvement with the current system before full level 4 autonomy is made available. I won't go as far as to speculate on timing for Autopilot 2.0 because no one...

Hi Mouchouinard, Is it possible to show the kWh consumed per day on the "logs" page next to the mileage and time spent charging? The reason I'm asking is that it helps when evaluating different battery capacity options vs actual kWh used. Thanks

    Where autopilot shines...

I've used AP for about 4000 miles now. It's best shining moments are in stop and go traffic. It makes a tedious commute so much less tiring. You do need to follow the instructions, keep hands on the wheel and be prepared to take over. But even so it's a lot better than pre-AP commuting. 600 of...

    Summon Why ?

There is an extremely tight parking stall next to EV charging spaces at work that would not allow me to get out of the car without risking a door ding against a concrete wall. I have used summon several times to park in this space. It's extremely useful and otherwise I'd have to park far away.

TeslaLog.com - Your hosted Tesla Data Logger - Announcement / Support threads

I see. As long as you don't care about the first or current week being accurate then all of the weeks in between will be correct. You know, it's amazing how this car has us all "tinkering" with the API just like people used to do with old ICE cars!

TeslaLog.com - Your hosted Tesla Data Logger - Announcement / Support threads

I see. In that case you won't get an accurate report until the end of the 7 day period. For example if I drive 7 miles or km total on Monday, the report will say my daily average is 1 mile/km if I check on Monday. (7 mi/km)/7 = 1 mi/km. If I may suggest, instead of dividing by 7, divide by n +...

New Tesla Blog on Summon Feature Posted

While I can understand why people would say the blog is misleading, from what I say being done at CES last week, it's not being the realm of possibility that current Model S vehicles can't be upgraded to include hardware updates that would allow for this. I say that after seeing several...
