Green Vehicles now have permanent Ontario HOV access!

That's what has been reported in the news. EV access is free.

Green Vehicles now have permanent Ontario HOV access!

Great news! As more electric cars hit the road and they need to consider HOV usage limitations, I wonder whether this means they will start limiting the number of green plates issued? Will we be grandfathered in?

Was thinking of doing a chrome delete myself, looks awesome!

In that case you could go PD, AF or even vinyl, depending on the outcome and price. The DIY aspect of it meant it being 1/3 of the price of a pro vinyl installation for the first run. My garage is too small, I ended up using a good friends instead. Depending on the cost I may end up renting a...

Just plasti dipped my Model S

Probably a bit of both. It's my first time, so whether I didn't put enough on or put too much on, I'm not sure. To be honest, I'm more than happy with the smoothness of the texture, and I don't notice at all. Only experienced dippers may criticize :) Yes, the Q7 video is what inspired me...

    Drive-in Cinema

Bjorn says he always brings blankets or towels to cover the lights. :) Apparently you can choose to shut off your lights and they come on again when you come out of park, but not sure if that's just the US model.

Where to rent a Tesla Model S in GTA?

I see you've taken some liberties with your Turo listing. 400km range for a 70 is not only above practical limits but above ideal range (385km) as well. 70 also doesn't do 0-60 in under 5 seconds, I believe its 5.4 or 5.5. :)

Just plasti dipped my Model S

Clear coat was before my plasti dip, ended up having to refinish, polish, etc to get it out. 100% hand washing now :) I went with dip vs wrap for a few reasons. First its 1/3 to 1/2 of the price, even buying all the equipment. Then its more like 1/5 the price afterwards. Granted you're doing...

Just plasti dipped my Model S

Cost me about $1000 for all the equipment, and materials. I figure if I did it again it'd cost me about $500-600. 7 base coats of black, 3 top coats with pearl (but i still will hand wash it because of a recent experience with a touchless wash scratching the hell out of my clear coat)

Just plasti dipped my Model S

Well I can't say it was easy, but it wasn't too difficult either, mostly just a lot of work. First watched lots of youtube videos from dipyourcar.com, Fonzie is great at giving lots of details. Then I bought a pro car kit including a sprayer and all the materials. I bought: - 4 gallons of...

Just plasti dipped my Model S

Yes, I love how it came out. Instantly unique and has a really high contrast in the sun, almost looks electric which is appropriate :)

Matte black finish is the easiest to achieve, since adding colour and reflection is the expensive part.

Just plasti dipped my Model S

Had a long Saturday prepping and dipping my 70D. I love the look at the end. Used 7 coats of base plasti dip (3 gallons), 3 coats of DPTC (1.5 gallons) with 75g of Deep Sea Blue pearls by KP pigments. It's my first time doing it, and it was the alternative to wrapping the car, which I had...

    My Plasti Dip experiment

Thanks for the info. Yes I've been watching lots of DYC videos. As Hank mentioned, going with the Deep Sea Blue kandy pearls. DYC suggested 4 gallons of black and 2.5 gallons top coat. I was going to go with 3 gallons black, and 2 gallons top coat, considering I'm not doing the roof. I was...

    My Plasti Dip experiment

So I'm looking to dip my model S with a blue similar to what Hank showed. Any hints on # of gallons required for base coat, top coat, etc?

    Collingwood charging station?

I have a 70D and made the trip up to Collingwood twice this winter from Mississauga. Both times I charged overnight using a friend's 110v plug, but in both cases it was really to make it a more comfortable drive. If I had a packed car or it was very cold you might run into problems, but if you...

BUG: After summon car does not open/unlock immediately

I'm in Canada and still seeing problems with summon. Most of the time it just doesn't work, and fails on the app. When it does fail a number of things seem to go wrong. Even though the handles auto present, I had the alarm go off when I opened the door. Today summon failed again and when I...

    70D vs. 90D Speed Regrets?

I'll jump on the bandwagon and reinforce the decision for the 70D. I did the same as you and looked to test drive both. The P85+ was ridiculous, and I was hesitant to put in an order for a 70D without at least trying it. Finally I got an email to overnight test drive the 70D and I put in my...

    2015 Canadian Electric Vehicle Sales

We may be more spread out, but our population centres are more concentrated. I think that if they follow through with their 2016 growth plan I would be more than happy. SC up to nearly Sudbury, and past Quebec City in Ontario.

    CANADA Version 7.1

I just got back from driving to Montreal and back. Probably nagged 5-6 times on an 8 hour trip. I may have nudge the wheel here and there, but definitely not a 3 minute lag in my case. I'm on 7.1.

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

Few more things that are starting to bug me about winter driving my MS: - Mirror heaters seem to be "ok". Doesn't seem to heat up to remove frost and snow around the edges of the mirror. - Lack of pre-heat for rear defrost/windshield wipers/front defrost/seat heaters/steering wheel. I want...

    Tesla "Wave"

I just picked my my Tesla less than a month ago, so there's still a giddiness I get whenever I drive it which I hope never goes away. However I still get a little excited when I see another Tesla on the road, as I had for 2 years while planning to get my own. Now I feel somewhat closer to this...

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

In the middle of an emergency skid, who has the coordination to change the gear of their vehicle? In any kind of skid, you really need both hands on the wheel. I searched several different top recommended sites on dealing with skids, and only one made mention of putting it into neutral "if you...

    That crazy Loonie!

How did you guys turn this into a political / economic debate? The guy just wants to know if he should buy now or later, not what to tell his government to do.

    That crazy Loonie!

Yes, eventually prices will come to equillibrium, so perhaps its best if you buy now instead of waiting :) I came to the same conclusion when I configured both options on both the CDN and US sites, did the exchange and found that buying in Canada would be 8% cheaper. I hit the buy button...

WARNING: I rear-ended someone today while using Auto Pilot in my brand new P90D!

An "accident" simply means its unintentional. Most accidents are preventable, but it doesn't make them not accidents.

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

Yes but in most cars, having it in "D" means that its engaged and accelerating, even with your foot off the pedal. In a Model S, foot off the pedal means you're regenerating, or perhaps coasting if regen is disabled, either way not accelerating unless going downhill. I don't think Neutral was...

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

You'd think that the system would be wise enough to apply ABS/traction control type logic to regeneration. I'm also surprised that regen isn't more front-wheel based, similarly to why mountain bikers use their front brakes for 70% of their braking. As a car brakes its weight shifts to the...

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

Great tip, thanks. I tend to manage the deceleration myself by not yanking my foot of the pedal. You say the rear wheels, are you referring to specifically a RWD model? I assume that regen happens with all wheels when equipped with a dual motor setup.
  35. edwolb

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

Yes I realize that. However driving a car without standard traction control, ABS, AWD or winter tires is very different than driving a car with all of those capabilities. I'm just starting to learn how Tesla's traction control, low centre of gravity, evenly distributed weight profile and...

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

Nice, I have the same tires and dual motor. I'm still figuring out the capabilities of the car in the snow. Trying to figure out if I need to drive it like a normal car (very different driving style in the winter), or whether the Model S will just let me drive like normal.

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

Oakville will likely get something alongside its service centre. I say its time to start heading north. Barrie already has one, what about Orangeville or Collingwood? Or further up the 400?

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

Thanks Jaff, I thought that might be the case. Suprisingly the roads weren't too icy this morning, but even my wife's ICE froze half its doors shut. I suppose I was expecting some electric miracles :)

Is the Model S made for Canadian winters?

After a few weeks with my new Model S I finally experience a nice frozen morning. I happily turn on my climate control 30 mins before I need to leave. As I'm ready to go I approach my car and hear a *crrunnnchh* as the door handles reach out to meet me, grinding through some ice that's...

    Winter Tire Options

Since I've already got mine, I feel no need to hide it anymore. I got a great deal from a "tires and rims" start up type place in Mississauga. $1659+tax for Ruffino Corse matte black rims and Nokkian R2 tires, balanced and installed. No TPMS sensors which is a bit annoying, but this is by far...

Why isn't heated steering wheel setting persistent like heated seats?

My understanding is that 6-9 months ago Tesla changed their API servers and introduced throttling among other things which made it difficult for apps such as this and VisibleTesla to communicate. The most recent review for the Chrome add on basically says it doesn't work anymore. - - - Updated...
