In case anyone wanted to know how this ended:
I got the car back from Recell in early May. They were indeed able to repair the pack, and the final cost was about the same as their estimate. They added on a $300 "vehicle inoperable surcharge" (why couldn't they have included that in the...
I have a 2013 Model S 60kWh. Recently I took it to the SC due to a BMS error and they disassembled the frunk as part of their diagnosis (or maybe because I had asked them to retrieve a tool that I dropped behind the 12V battery ...). I ended up declining their repair quote (see my other thread...
Okay so it turns out this model year does have a manual release but it is well-hidden. I found it thanks to the video at . It is a pain to get to though because it is blocked by the HV cables so you have to detach them first. So instead I just used a bit of plastic to force the locking pin down...
So I had it towed home and the 12V battery was dead--reading only 5V, and so of course the car wouldn't power on. I revived it with an external charger with a pulse reconditioning function and now the car powers on again, but the errors are still there. Also, it seems that this model year...
Indeed, but the SC is steadfastly refusing to do any troubleshooting, even at my expense. Not good customer service! I've decided I'll bring it home and try the 12V angle, and also get the parts to be able to use Scan My Tesla so that I can hopefully see what they see. And if it is indeed a...
Thanks. Just confirmed with service that they have not tested the 12V battery since they "are not seeing any 12V related alerts". I think I'm leaning toward bringing the vehicle home and testing everything that I can test myself.
The 12V battery was replaced in July 2020. I barely drove the vehicle at all during the pandemic though, so maybe that didn't help. But if the 12V battery was the source of the problem then wouldn't the problem have temporarily cleared when the 12V was jumped to get the car into tow mode?
I have a 2013 Model S 60kWh that I bought used in 2016 as a commuter car. It has only 56K miles on it, but of course is out of warranty. I have never had any trouble with drivability or power until one morning about a week ago it refused to drive (error codes below). I had driven it fine the...
I have a full set of all-weather floor and cargo mats for my Model X, but there is one area that isn't covered by them: the rear storage trench area. Because the rear trench is so deep in the Model X, it is the best place to haul my son's stroller, so it is getting dirty a lot. I have been...
I keep accidentally double-clicking the fob when shuffling my keys in my pocket and opening doors when I am not in sight of the car and don't notice. This is quite disastrous when it happens while the car is outside and it's raining.
I almost never want to open doors from the fob. Unfortunately...
I usually keep my keys in my pocket when I'm at home and so I'm frequently triggering the auto-presenting front door when doing stuff in my garage without any intention of getting into the car. Sometimes the door eventually closes on its own and sometimes it does not. Last week it happened while...
Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but it is one of the top hits on Google. I will answer the question originally posed by the OP, but for the current-generation Tesla Tire Repair Kit. It is manufactured by "TEK Automotive (Shanghai) Co Ltd." and imported into the USA by "TEK Corporation"...
At my delivery appointment for my Model X my delivery specialist asked if I wanted a no-drill mount for the front license plate and when I said I did she emailed me a link to this The Law product. Not exactly an endorsement but it kind of suggests that they don't see a problem with it blocking...
Thanks a lot for this post! I was also looking to get prices for a HPWC installation in the Seattle area and your post saved me from having to do a detailed price comparison of my own.
Thanks for the replies. Has anybody actually used AAA for this purpose before? The terms and conditions don't explicitly exclude towing a depleted EV but they also don't explicitly include it. In fact they exclude using the towing coverage as an alternative to proper vehicle maintenance and I...
My wife just bought a Model S 60 on Monday (at my urging) and has her first road trip this Saturday. She is experiencing some powerful range anxiety even though on paper the trip should be very doable (82 miles to supercharger, 75 miles to destination, and 75 back).
To relieve her stress I want...
I sent basically the same question to the same email address and got the opposite answer:
My email:
Hello,
I'm considering buying a used Model S from a third-party dealer who has it in their pre-owned inventory. If I do buy it, can I purchase the extended warranty (a.k.a. "Extended Service...
Thanks for all the replies. I already confirmed the order but it is only a 90D so I don't expect delivery until mid-year at the earliest and maybe more like September if the estimates are on Elon time. But mid-year may be about when I'd be closing the mortgage (I am only just starting to look...
I'm in the situation that my Model X order may end up being ready for delivery at around the same time as I'm buying my first home. My understanding is that any big purchase or new debt after mortgage pre-approval and before funding can be a disaster, so I may end up having to ask Tesla to delay...
They are probably doing A/B testing to see what fraction of people are interested in the option when presented with it. They can't measure that properly when it's hidden.
But I'm still not convinced that it's just software. The theory about a "bad batch" of chargers seems plausible to me. When...
I find it extremely unlikely that 72A charging would be software upgradeable. That would mean that Tesla is unnecessarily using high-amperage hardware in every Model X sold just to make it easier to do the "upgrade" in software. It doesn't make sense that they would do that when their official...
This is true, but it doesn't have to be very close. Tesla seems to be putting in SCs at about 100-mile intervals. With an 80% charge to about 200 miles of range, I believe it will eventually be possible to arrive practically anywhere with about 100 miles of range remaining (assuming the...
So my order confirmation date passed and I chose to leave the 72 A charger off of my order. I made the decision by considering how I'd likely behave differently with the 72 A charger. I reached the conclusion that I typically wouldn't benefit from it when travelling because in most situations I...
They're visible to everyone at Model X Specifications | Tesla Motors. I've placed an order already and I don't have any more specs than that. Haven't seen any mention of the turning radius. However, I'd expect the turning radius to be similar to an AWD Model S.
I placed my Model X order without the secret 72 A charger option and I'm considering adding it to my order but I can't make up my mind (deadline: Saturday). Please help convince me one way or the other! :)
Pros:
- 50% faster charging speed where available.
- It's only about 1% more cost to the...
Having spent a few weeks emailing a Tesla sales member about the options for my Model X order, I thought I'd share what I learned here for others. Some of this may be "obvious" or already confirmed elsewhere.
1) Unlike the Model S, the base model of the Model X has a NON-leather steering wheel...
Thanks for the replies. I already have Blizzak snow tires for my Prius but it's not enough. With a 60-mile commute each way, handling is just as important as stopping distance in order to stay on the road. I'll be looking at some old used Subarus this week.
I have a Model X reservation and was hoping to get it before winter starts, but that ain't happening. :/ I live in Boston and my current car is a Prius that does not handle well in the winter here, so I'm looking to upgrade to another car temporarily until I can get my Model X. I can't get a new...
Thanks. Looks very nice! I think I will go for it. My main concern was that my non-vegan wife would not like it if it was a compromise but it looks great.
I'm planning to order a Tesla soon and I'm considering requesting the secret vegan option with the alternate steering wheel. Have any owners posted pictures of the vegan steering wheel? I'm wondering how its quality and ergonomics compare to the standard one.
