No, it's not a luxury car, at least not in Colorado.

Update: The Colorado PUC has granted a waiver for a Tesla limo license. This is a one time one person waiver. It is not a rule change which means Tesla is still not an "executive car" in Colorado.

You're welcome- I'm still digging and with this quote from the Colorado DMV "Fees are established by the legislature or promulgated in rule." it seems there is nothing to stop a new rule being written by a commission to charge more for luxury cars (beyond the % of purchase/list price) but that...

No complaints about the rear seat. AC has yet to be an issue in Colorado as it snowed last night.

Driving the Model S for Uber + Lyft

Here's the list of approved vehicles- and only those on the list. A BMW 3 series with 4 doors would likely qualify as a sedan manufactured by BMW (I have a 1988 325ix which is still eating road for breakfast- love it) (A)a sedan, crossover, or sport utility vehicle manufactured by: Acura...

Sure.... all nice cars Chrysler 300, Hyundai Equus, Saab 9-5, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Excursion, Ford Expedition, GMC Yukon, Hummer However my best guess as to why it's those cars and not a Tesla - and mind you it's only a guess- only an opinion- no proof- all conjecture- is...

Driving the Model S for Uber + Lyft

I'm trying to Uber my Model S in Colorado but I've run into a major problem- Tesla isn't on the list of manufacturers for a limo license. To up to UberBlack (no UberSelect available in my area) I need the limo license and that takes a rule change at the State level. I need some petition...

According to the regs a Hyundai is a luxury vehicle and a Tesla isn't. Seriously? The only specification in the Colorado rule is cup holders which are part of the car's original manufacture- and the S qualifies with 2 cup holders in the console. Interestingly my 1988 325ix has no cup holders...

Come to the West Slope- so far they're always available in Silverthorne, Glenwood and Junction. Oh it's qualified for UberSelect, but UberSelect isn't available in Aspen. That means if you request an Uber on the app in Aspen your choices are UberX, UberXL and UberBlack. That's a whole 'nother issue with Uber...

No, it's not a luxury car, at least not in Colorado.

I've tried to get this nailed down without success. "A luxury limousine is defined in § 40-10.1-301(7), C.R.S., as “a chauffeur-driven, luxury motor vehicle as defined by the commission by rule.” and the rule is the manufacturer.

Yes, that's the obvious argument. I thought it would be obvious, I was wrong. I'm looking for ammunition from independent sources why Tesla should be considered a luxury vehicle.

So, I'm trying to get a luxury limo license for my Model S in Colorado and Tesla is not listed as a manufacturer of luxury cars in this State. I need to "prove" it's a luxury vehicle and petition for a "rule making" from the Public Utilities Commission. To that end- any links or evidence which...
