Looking for a place to stay in Carmel area during the concourse August 21st...

be prepared for sticker shock. next to the pro-am the car week is the biggest event on the peninsula. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the Carmel and Monterey hotels are already booked. Might have to look at putting the MIL suite on homeaway.

S85D Multi-Coat Red, 17.000 km for sale in Switzerland. Vin 707xx: SOLD - No Longer Available

I was told that US cars won't work in Europe and vice versa based on the charging system and supercharging. I was asking about buying one in the US and taking it to Europe on government service orders and was told it wasn't feasible.

Ventilated seats in Model X- self contained or piped into the HVAC system?

I think too many times people equate ventilated with cooled, but it's not usually active cooling. We've had vented seats now in multiple Saabs and a M-B and both brands just put a fan that pulls the air into the seats and out the bottom. Pulls the cabin air, not anything cooled. I wasn't...

    2013 Tesla Model S 60, $54,000 - 29K Miles, Blue Exterior w/Gray Interior - No Longer Available

thanks for the update. I'm going to pass, would need superchargers just to get it up to Monterey.

    2013 Tesla Model S 60, $54,000 - 29K Miles, Blue Exterior w/Gray Interior - No Longer Available

no mention of supercharger access-does it have it? that's not standard with the 60s. Also is this one still eligible for the extended warranty? I'm suddenly in the market for a model S since the bmw died driving home tonight and the planned changeover just got moved up to now.

    lease rates lowered?

thanks, this makes it more interesting. Trying to debate throwing 5k in repairs at my current vehicle vs trading it in at wholesale and getting something new via lease or newer via CPO.

    lease rates lowered?

I got an email this morning from Tesla announcing lower lease rates on the S. Looks like the base 70 RWD starts at $698. Even with some decent options and dual motors it's well under $1k. My question is has anyone been tracking the lease payments and how much of a change is this if any?

could be a car that has been sitting inside a showroom for a while. Do they rotate the cars in those? I can't imaging the car inside of tyson's corner mall in VA gets driven that often.

Suggestions for 3 day road trip

What days of the week are you going to be in Big Sur? I just drove through there on a Saturday evening and the return traffic to Monterey/Carmel was backed up for miles. Since most of Big Sur traffic seems to be day trips, my friend who lives on 1 just south of Carmel confirmed the weekend...

    Model X Dimensions....

I'm specifically looking at the variocage double XL. We have a Bernese mt dog and are considering a second. The double XL will fit in the back of our GL350, and I'm curious to know whether it would fit in the back of a model X. This website has very detailed crate dimensions...

    Model X Dimensions....

thanks. So it tapers out and doesn't get narrower at any point above the floor? and is the floor to ceiling clearance available anywhere? It's a tall crate also.
  13. K

    Model X Dimensions....

is that min width of 38.25 at the floor or at the "shoulder" brace-things? I'm investigating how large of a dog crate can fit in the back of the X. The one that I'm looking at specifically has a floor width of 39 but tapers in as you go up so hits 38.25 pretty fast.

Cargo net for big dogs in Model X cargo area

we currently use a specialized car crate in our M-B GL and are about to get a larger one since we're getting a second Berner soon. They are both in the 80 pound range so the crates need to be big. Variocage and proline seem to be the most common options. The slope of the back hatch is going to...

Looking for Model X owner willing to show off car in SF Bay area (PM me)

Is yours the blue one I saw last night driving home? I was going to stop and gawk but it was my son's birthday so I couldn't make an excuse to be late.

Looks like it is. More gold than silver or gray, but I haven't seen a titanium yet in person.

    Random Model X sightings

I think at the upper levels the buyers are very conservative with their color choices- hence the black/white/gray limitation. We were going to get the red GL and the day went to place the order we got told that MB had ended that color, it was no longer available. My first choice in an S would...

X driver's door auto open and close

do the front doors have the same sonic sensors the FWD have? With large overall width of the X I would be worried about regularly hitting the car next to me in a parking lot.

    Wiki Model X FAQ (wiki)

wow, is that width accurate? That's wider than a suburban by 9 inches, and wider than my GL350 by 5 inches. I don't think I can fit one of these and my GL in the garage at the same time. I realize the mirrors are a lot of that width and the model S is only a few inches smaller, but wow...

Insurance for the Signature Model X

thanks for the info on USAA. I'm a member as well and was planning on using them for whichever Tesla we decide on. Since I'm still technically a FL resident while on active duty I wonder how the Fl windshield replacement rule will influence the insurance quote. if you have comprehensive on a...

    Dogs in a Model S??

Can someone with an S check and see if this crate will fit in the back of the vehicle with the second row seats up from the dimensions? I doubt it will, right now it takes up about the entire volume of our 5 series wagon cargo area, and I think the wagon is a lot taller towards the end of the...

Bonnie's Xcellent Adventure w/X Sig 2 - Config, Delivery, Roadtrip

Until some dumb American living in Spain with the Navy decides it's supposed to be two and puts a bulb in the matching side light socket on his Saab 900. That was almost 18 years ago now. I looked like I had my foot on the brake all the time until I figured out the empty socket was correct, not...

Bonnie's Xcellent Adventure w/X Sig 2 - Config, Delivery, Roadtrip

radar doesn't go through metal so putting the front plate on top of the sensor would be a problem. I've seen some shots somewhere of an X with a front plate, it was low, probably mounted just under the radar. On our M_B GL the front radar is hidden inside the MB emblem in the grill, it helps...

Bonnie's Xcellent Adventure w/X Sig 2 - Config, Delivery, Roadtrip

so the third row is power fold? Are the buttons in the cargo area as well as in the second row like other 3 row SUVs with power fold seats? Nice you can configure it from the touchscreen, but most of the time you want to do it from the back of the car before you load.

    PG&E E7 NEM smart meter

there's not a financial payback for overproducing more than you consume, but as noted the way the system works you don't need to make 100% of your production because of the price difference. Especially because even the high rate in the winter is much less than the peak rate in the summer when...

    Touchscreens on Steering Wheel?

I agree the steering wheel buttons need tactile feedback to make sure you are pressing the right place. Otherwise the advantage of being able to control things without taking your hands off the wheel and eyes off the road aren't there.
  35. K

Model S station wagon design, anyone?

wagons are still popular in Europe because very few can afford to gas up an SUV when gas is around $8 a gallon. I would rather have second row headroom and cargo room than the small range bonus that the sloped rear in the hatchback gives you.

Model S station wagon design, anyone?

unfortunately the wagon market in the US is losing to the SUV. I have one of the last BMW 5 series wagons produced for the US, and I've heard they are stopping the 3 series wagon also. Before that we had a Saab 9-5 wagon for 10 years. Wagons in Europe are much more common, they perform...

    Charging outside different situations

thanks. I think I'll stick with either three kids across the back seat in an S or get the X. We also have a big dog that will need to take up the hatch space or the third row seat in an X.

    Random Model X sightings

I talked to the Monterey service center. They confirmed that a founders x was there earlier but passing through. The test drive x for the center was estimated at late January.

    Charging outside different situations

What's the upper height/age recommendation for the rear facing seats? I thought it was under 7? I have 6, 9, and 12 year old kids and didn't think we would get any use out of the third row in an S because they are too old.

    Random Model X sightings

It does look like Seaside. When was the picture taken? I'm tempted to depart for an early lunch and see if it's there now. I live and work about 2 miles from the center.

    PG&E E7 NEM smart meter

I wish we had more detail also. We've only had solar since April so I haven't been through a winter cycle yet. The summer was a huge boom season banking up a ton of power but our production fell off the cliff this month and usage was also very high. I can't tell if usage went way up and...

Any opinions on the D's performance in the Snow vs. non D

Tires are going to make far more difference than 2wd vs awd. A lot of the car magazines have done multiple tests of this and proven it. Tire rack has some good articles on the subject also. Remember that AWD might help you go vs 2wd, but it's useless at stopping. That's where snow tires...

Suggestions for 3 day road trip

    The Perfect Tesla Raffle

I think the question is whether the prize is awarded at the drawing or when the payment is made to Tesla. For tax purposes for the $7500 credit, I think it's pretty clear that is tied to delivery so it would be 2016 (unless you want a 70 X). For the "prize tax" to the IRS, my assumption was...

PG&E TOU Customers: Charge nightly to reduce cost?

It depends on the rate and the season. The basic TOU plan has no peak period during the winter at all. Since I have solar but no EV yet I'm still coming out ahead because I banked up so much peak cost power production during the summer than I can use 2-3x that amount in the winter and be even...
