265/40R20 front 295/35R20 rear I find a 285 tire in the front is sorta overkill because it makes the steering much harder. Also if you use spacers or a reduced offset than factory, it only increases the effort needed for steering even further. So people with 285 in the front and a reduced...

Wow. Have you taken dynamic weight into consideration at all. For a long wheelbase like the S, the tires handle up to 1.3X their static weight during braking (front), cornering, acceleration (rear) - weight transfer. For a car with a GVWR of 5600lbs (rounded up to the nearest 100), 1.3X static...

How did you manage the weight rating? 245/30 seems like it can barely handle the weight of a Corolla, leave alone a 5000lb car

I have two sets of 20” tires - pilot sport 4 all seasons and pirelli PZ4 MO1 (Mercedes AMG spec). Both sets are 265/40R20 fronts and 295/35R20 rears. I have realized that the pirelli tread width is almost an inch less than the PS4AS and that results in very different traction profiles...

Extended Wheel Studs replacement on Plaid

Yes spacers, and visible degradation on the oem studs.. the oem studs are “soft”
  7. MFrunkerOG

Extended Wheel Studs replacement on Plaid

Correct. Also remove the screws on the dust shield because the longer studs can only be positioned from a notch on the top of the hub

Extended Wheel Studs replacement on Plaid

Not the hub, but the calipers yes. Just hang them on the upper control arm

No no, the 2021+ has its own sub site. Should show up in the drop down. Yes the images look like it’s for the older one, but don’t let that distract

I love my signatures for their winter fit with my non racing pilot sport 4 all seasons! But I use a different brand for my summer racing season when I need to worry about load rating!

The engineering philosophy is - delete all the parts. Over delete and then add back 10% you deleted before. If you haven’t added back 10% you haven’t deleted enough. Engineering flux like this will create issues like ours. Their focus on how to simplify distracts from how to improve

Plaids with 20" tires AND rear inner tire wear?

I’m really getting attracted to the pilot sport cup 2 (240) connect tires that come in 275-35 front / 305–30 rear setup on 20” wheels. Also they seem like they have enough sipes for wet traction. I currently run the Pirelli 265/295 PZ4 setup and have loved the first few laps after which they...

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

I had a similar experience. I got splashed on severely and couldn’t see out of my windshield for a couple of seconds (scary). The dam did a partial job (actually quite good). The sock was critical in keeping whatever did make its way out of the intake.

Error - Steering Assist Reduced - Steering may require increased effort

I’ve heard about poor grounding being a reason for this error. I was getting it from time to time too, with no degradation in steering ability. I tested the electrical resistance between a few grounds that were easily accessible under the hood and found reasonably (>5 ohm) resistance. Had to...

    Braking in rain

Happens to me as well. When it’s damp outside, I just brake a bit when I start driving to get the moisture off the rotors / pads and then all is fine after.

Make sure the elastic is properly stretched around the entire intake. At the back it can ride a bit high unless you pull it down gently below the lip edge

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

Interestingly, water enters in the model 3 from the intake in a similar location as well. A lot of people with the stinky model 3 think it’s about the condensation from the AC coil.
  32. MFrunkerOG

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

Between the B part and the C part, I don’t think either replacements will solve the problem since the issue is the water at the intake and given how hard that biodefense fan runs, water spray will just get sucked in no matter r how much they redesigned the intake opening on the C part. I am...

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

The shower dam has held up really well. No degradation of the adhesion for several weeks now. But I wiped the underside a few times with isopropyl alcohol / rubbing alcohol until it was squeaky clean and then did the dam tape. I know there are a few adhesion promotion things 3M makes which...
  34. MFrunkerOG

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

I did it on the underside of the hood for two reasons 1. The 3M tape on the shower dam has a much better seal against the metal of the hood than the plastic of the intake grill where it will most certainly come loose. 2. Stopping water at the source (where the wipers splash it down) rather than...

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

It’s been several weeks since the shower dam and the air intake sock. I’m pleased to report that despite several rainy drives, not one drop entered the air intake! Hurrah!
  39. MFrunkerOG

Just a few drops collect on the sock if they make their way past the dam. They dry up
  40. MFrunkerOG

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

Okay, don’t turn on biodefense but youv have got to test the dam with the hose and wipers. You’ll never know if you put it on right if you don’t. And I haven’t seen any noticeable airflow reduction in biodefence mode. But collectively, the dam and the sock are a $45 fix. It’s actually the...

I’m not sure I understand the question. Why would the shower dam ruin ppf even if it were stuck on top of it. My hood has ppf too and the lip is barely a quarter of an inch if that at all. The shower dam is well inside it so it doesn’t foul with the wiper arm.

I don’t understand why not a single vendor has made a hood seal for the new S. They make it for he 3 and Y. Yes I know volumes, but I’d easily pay a couple of hundred for a more elegant solution. Oh well!
