Best alignment settings - educate me please

I texted with the SC about doing the alignment on the low suspension setting since my car still feels like it is hunting for direction on the highway. They said they are not able to do the alignment on low due to lack of space for the equipment. This seems like a problem since the car drops...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Time to order new tires. That is the dreaded separation and you can see the line of excessive wear. It may take a while to get them based on recent history. Is that an aftermarket link in the suspension?

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

Ok so on my second visit for stinky ac they said they were going to clean the coils. They didn’t, but instead replaced the hepa (again, second time in a month) and also the big filter under the front cowl. It worked! Make sure they replace both for you and see if your results are the same...

38psi may cause problems. Read the threads about tire failure. It is another major issue Tesla service is ignoring.

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

yes Plaid August 2021 build date. I thought I had drainage early on but haven't lately. Service center said they don't drain directly any longer. Haven't seen a puddle in months. I thought maybe drain line was backed up causing the smell. You would think Service could find such an obvious...

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

I haven’t located the drain line and was told by service that the car doesn’t drain directly to the ground any longer. I’ve never seen a puddle under the car from ac.

Replacing cabin air filter and cleaning evaporator fins in 2021-2022 MS

I have the same smell. Never had it in my 2015 P85D. Not sure what design flaw is causing this but once again Tesla service has been a disappointment. As others mentioned above I got the new filter which of course didn't solve the problem. They first said they would do the cleaning but then...

    Plaid Vibration around 38-42MPH....

I wasn't sure if I had the vibration talked about here. There may have been something subtle. I recently replaced tires (all with OEM Michelin 4s) and had Tesla do a 4 wheel alignment. I now have a very pronounced vibration 42-50mph. Low vs Medium height makes little to no difference.

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

My P85D said 42psi. Plaid built 08/21 says 40psi. Service center said they inflate to 42psi despite this on the label. Does yours say 42?

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Thanks for the NHTSA link. I submitted it. I stopped by the service center and they are pleading ignorance that there is any issue and stating tires are a wear item and don't have a warranty. Also claiming that the tech doing a four wheel alignment, 5 miles before it failed, would not...
  13. C

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

I will also file a NHTSA complaint. I am a Tesla fan having owned 4 models starting with a P85D, so no hate agenda here. This is a major and dangerous design flaw. I keep my tires at 42psi and have never let it get below 39psi at any time. I had a 4 wheel alignment done hours before the...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Add me to the list of Plaid 21" rear tire failures. The thing that especially concerns me is mine failed within 5 miles of having my car in for service and a 4 wheel alignment performed. How can a tech do an alignment and not see this failure that clearly must have been about to rupture. The...

Anyone Else Experiencing Regular 21" Arachnid Tires "Thumping" Loudly When Turning While Backing Up?

Yes my Plaid does it also. Previously P85D didn't. I suspect the wider tires and maybe tire compound that is more sensitive to cold temps is the cause. Ackerman effect sounds better than "chunking" which is what I always heard it called.

    Show of hands… Adaptive Suspension

I know it has been said before in the comments above, but the ride is also significantly worse if you are in anything but the lowest setting. I had been driving set to normal due to the big lip in the front, but gave up on that idea and noticed a modest improvement. Anyone else? Maybe...

    Show of hands… Adaptive Suspension

2021 plaid with 21”. No real difference between modes for me. At most the comfort setting just allows the car to bounce after hitting a bump more than other modes but the initial impact is just as harsh.

    Bouncy Suspension Model S

I'm not sure that the different settings under "advanced" makes any appreciable difference either. I think comfort does allow more bounce when hitting big dips on the highway which isn't really a good thing. At low to medium speeds on local roads I see no difference at different settings. I...

    Bouncy Suspension Model S

I'm not sure how some of the cars have perfect suspensions and others like ours are bouncy. I think it is a perception issue? Still hopeful software can fix it. It really seems to be a dampening/rebound issue. If my old P85DL can dampen better with a basic air suspension, surely an adaptable...

    Bouncy Suspension Model S

I drove my P85D last night after months of only driving the Plaid. I was shocked just how much better it was at dampening. Dips and potholes that shake the Plaid with an initial impact didn’t register on the older car. Merle I’m not sure how to answer your question, but to me there is not...

    Bouncy Suspension Model S

I have the same experience/complaint. My 2015 P85D is a better ride for the passengers. As a sports car it is acceptable. As a sports sedan not so much. The seats are also not supportive and adjustable enough (lower leg and headrest mainly). I've been a Tesla owner long enough to know they...

    2016.5 P90D to 2022 Plaid Impressions

Went from 2015 P85D to 2021 Plaid. Agree with all above except I am not impressed with the suspension. I'm hoping software will address it, but my old car was more comfortable somehow. Setting to comfort on the Plaid just makes it bouncy not smooth. Also the front seats are a step back from...

Driver door button icon does not dim at night

mine did that after the latest software update but then fixed itself the next day. It was always too bright and was warm to touch. It was only the driver's door as it looks to be with yours.

    Rear trunk won't open

As frustrating as it is to have it fail without warning, I did have a good experience with the service center. They considered it a safety issue and fixed it the same day. $180. Show me another dealership experience where you walk out with a repair under $500. The emergency cable didn't do...

Don't trust automatic gear selection on refreshed Model S.

I think it is all about your expectations. As an owner since 2015, I have been through many beta features. I knew going in that I was going to be on the cutting edge of what cars can do and that because of that, many features would not be ready for prime time. I gladly bought into it and I...

Plaid seat padding not good. Seeking input from other plaid owners

Not unique to your car. My Plaid is the same. The cushion of the last generation S seats is gone. These lack side bolster support and the bottom is reallly firm with not near enough adjustment range. My wife can’t sit in the seats at all given the low cushion height because the shape of the...

Model S Refresh 2021 - Front Passenger Side Window Distortion

There is definitely distortion in my Plaid as well. I am confident it is due to the plastic laminate they added to the glass for the sound proofing. I am hoping once I tint it will be less noticeable. It is the price paid for quieter glass?

Plaid handling improvements: better wheels, tires, brakes, suspension options

Agreed. They fit ok. But very hard. No cushion like the 3 or Y. They don't fit very well for shorter people either. My wife is very uncomfortable since the headrest isn't adjustable and the curvature of the seat back combined forces her head forward. Needs more adjustability.

Plaid handling improvements: better wheels, tires, brakes, suspension options

Lolachampcar, I am one of those that bought the P85D thinking I was getting a sport suspension only to have them change it shortly before I got mine in 2015. I am waiting for delivery of my Plaid in the next week but have an ongoing issue with the P85D suspension. I have a very substantial rear...

Call from Tesla asking me to cancel Plaid+ and take a Plaid

on the advice of my sales person I am going ahead and creating a new order for the Plaid. I told him I want this escalated further and can't believe this is how they really want to treat long time customers (2015), shareholders and owners of multiple Teslas. I told him I would trust that they...

Call from Tesla asking me to cancel Plaid+ and take a Plaid

Just was told I had to pay the extra $10k. Not really the right way to handle your customers that wanted a + and had the rug yanked out. I’ve asked them to escalate. Tesla usually ends up doing the right thing by it’s customers if not immediately.

    Nasty noise on hard acceleration

Just took my P85DL in for some warranty items and had them look at the noise when accelerating while suspension raised. The initial comment was there is not a fix for this but it is a known issue. They just sent my paperwork and it states this is a "known characteristic" and it should be "on...

    Chrome delete vinyl

I ordered 3M 1080 G12 GLOSS BLACK 5ft x 8ft (40 Sq/ft) Car Wrap Vinyl Film from amazon. You need the 8ft length to do the long piece of window trim on the Model S. Not sure what the measurement is for other models. Patience and a hair dryer or heat gun goes a long way. This material is...

    Apple Watch 3 LTE interference

This is very interesting. I hadn't thought to try portable speakers. I don't have the issue in my other cars so I really thought it was just a Tesla thing. Apple has tested my watch extensively and replaced my phone also to no avail. At this point they don't see it as their issue. Tesla...

    Apple Watch 3 LTE interference

It's got to be a combo issue with Apple and Tesla. Doesn't happen in any of my other cars. Doesn't happen to most people with Tesla's even. The only solution so far that works for me is airplane mode on the watch. I've gotten quick at turning it on when a call comes in. Not...

    Iphone X problems

Do you have an Apple Watch? I have the same issue but only with my watch connected to my iPhone X and both devices in the car. If the watch is off or out of the car my iPhone X works just fine. No solution yet, but I've had the microphones replaced twice, got a replacement iPhone X from Apple...

    P90D Battery Pack

So my new 90 pack in my formerly P85D can pull 475kw... so does that put my "new" 90 battery at a V1.1? :). Also I noted that max battery now makes a difference whereas with the 85 pack I don't recall noting any power difference.
  40. C

    Apple Watch 3 LTE interference

My carrier and iPhone are ATT. Not the Verizon enabled version. Logic says the watches presence causes the issue but possible the interference is from the Phone. Since I’ve had several phones and watch combos cause it, the real commmon denominator is the car. The thing I can’t understand is...

    Apple Watch 3 LTE interference

Ok, so latest round of experimentation....Apple is replacing my new LTE watch for me. While they do that I went back and connected my old series 1 watch to my iPhone X. Wouldn't you know it garbles the outgoing audio! So LTE isn't the problem. I then switched back to an old iPhone 7 Plus...

    2012 P85 Pack Replacement

I have only supercharged with the new pack a couple times and unfortunately it was at a crowded site both times. Performance was less than impressive. I had noticed my 85 pack slowing down in the past year before it went bad but recorded metrics on it.

    2012 P85 Pack Replacement

I guess I would worry more if it weren't for the 8 year warranty. If I blew through a "good" 85 pack in 2 years, I don't think a "inferior" 90 is going to last 5-6 more years. It would be good to know if and why the new replacement packs we are getting are still the V1 inferior tech and...

    2012 P85 Pack Replacement

Yep, I'm not sure how they would know or would be sophisticated enough in their process to care. I think it did add a little power based on the tables I see here. Seat of pants tells me so also.

    2012 P85 Pack Replacement

yes, after much confusion it ended up an unofficial P90D. Once they told me I was getting a new pack and not a rebuild of mine, they said I would get a pack with 5% more range. I asked if it was a 90 pack and they hesitated to acknowledge it. Clearly they did not want to get in the habit of...

    Apple Watch 3 LTE interference

Mine is a June 2015 P85D with AP1. The interesting thing is if there is interference and I turn off the LTE, it doesn't improve, at least not immediately. I have to turn the watch off completely and it goes away. If LTE is off to begin with when I get in the car it seems to be ok. So...

    2012 P85 Pack Replacement

Your regen surge is interesting. I just had my P85D pack replaced due to an internal fault. The new pack is a 90 and I now notice a regen unevenness when charged over 90%. Almost feels like you are on a bumpy road. Wasn't sure I was really feeling something until the second time it happened...

    P85DL battery question

I had my P85D upgraded and when they did I noted the sticker change to reference the Ludi upgrade. My understanding from reading other posts here and talking to service advisors is that the battery remained the same but the fuse that allowed the higher power draw was changed inside the battery...

    Apple Watch 3 LTE interference

So I always have my Apple Watch LTE on but rarely use it stand alone. Yes, the iPhone X is paired to the car and the watch is paired to the phone. I am not attempting to pair the watch to the car (not possible). The issue is while the LTE is enabled on the watch and the phone is paired to the...
