    EMF Radiation

Many studies do show harm to living organisms from chronic exposure to EMF. This includes damage to cells, destruction of DNA, and the many disorders that stem from such damage such as reproductive issues and cancer. The statement "there is no evidence" is so outdated that many have continued...

Selling Radio Flyer Model S for Kids

Another bachelor selling my code for the Founder's Series Model S for Kids. The code will let you configure the car and have it sent directly to your house. Ordering now shows arrival in time for Christmas. This config + taxes + shipping would otherwise cost upwards of $600.... yours for $450...

Founders Series Model S for Kids

I have a Founder's Series Model S Kids Code — but no kids! $400. Current shipping estimate from Radioflyer when I looked today was in time for x-mas. Please DM.

"Tire Pressure Monitor Service Required" Error Message

Hmm... which leaves it up to the end-user to disable. I'm guessing there's no way to do this in the service menu? Mine has failed now for the third time in five years. Would love to just be rid of them.

Headlight conversion to HID on the Roadster

I've still got the notoriously dim stock headlights. The high-beams are fine. Has anyone tried simply lowering the aim of the high-beams so they don't point as high and can just be left on during night driving?

Front Speaker adaptor rings 4" to 5-1/4"

My plan is to leave the front speakers alone, add tweeters to the doors, and upgrade the rears to 5 1/4". Seems to me that with all the ambient noise when the top is off, the rear speakers are much easier to hear anyway. Can we hear from someone who has upgraded the rears to larger speakers...

Tesla Service Center wants how much for a battery repair?

Well said. I too look forward to having more people and companies out there with the knowhow to keep my Roadster running.

What's gone wrong with your Roadster?

Yeah, good idea. From reading the forums, whether you pay $10, $1,000 or $10,000 to have your PEM fixed seems to depend on which service center and which tech you get. Unfortunate that I have to have my Roadster towed from one service center to another like I'm playing the lottery.

What's gone wrong with your Roadster?

My PEM just failed for the second time. First time under warranty. Second time not. Tesla Burlingame has told me that since they don't open up the PEM to repair it, I'll have to buy a brand new one for $10,000. Gas savings are nice, but cost of ownership on an out of warranty Roadster is...

    PEM Failure

My PEM has failed for the second time. Tesla Burlingame has told me that since they don't open up the PEM to repair it, I'll have to buy a brand new one for $10,000.

    PEM Failure

Roadster just died with power train error. Tesla Burlingame told me it's something with the PEM and that "unfortunately they don't open up the PEM" and so it'll be $10k for a new one. So I want to register this experience here. Some people claim to have been charged $10 by Tesla to fix the PEM...

    Menlo Park or Fremont?

Just had my Roadster towed to the Burlingame store. They said it has a problem with the PEM and that "unfortunately they don't even open up the PEM" and so installing a new PEM will be $10,000. No other options. There are pics on TMC of JB Straubel opening up a PEM and replacing some fuses to...

It is. Though, I haven't been advertising it. Who *really* wants to part with their Roadster? : )

    #777 - Silver - Raleigh, NC

Listed for $83,000. Best value, in my opinion, currently on cars.com (listing).

    Roadster's Future

What's the latest on the extended maintenance agreement? Is it officially dead? If so, it's hard not to see this as a Tesla strategy to give their used Roadster sales an advantage over the peer-to-peer Roadster market, or to encourage trade-ins to the S. How are the rest of you coping with...

What's gone wrong with your Roadster?

Power window mechanism failed. No Tesla store nearby and too cold to drive with the window down so had to shell out $480 to fix. Replacement assembly had to be shipped from Lotus, CA to a dealership in Atlanta. They would not drop ship. Oh, and as far as history: the TPMS controller (of...

Best place to sell a Roadster

Good suggestions. Thanks everyone. I went ahead and posted it to the for-sale thread. I have a Model S reservation but keep punting on it. As a single guy, unmarried, without kids, the S just seems like too much car for me. I quite like the Roadster's size: enough room for two people and a bit...

Best place to sell a Roadster

Thinking of selling my Roadster. What's the best way to do it? Has one online service proven to be better than others for this particular car? Should I bother with craigslist? Any other strategies that have emerged?

Charging at Campgrounds and RV Parks

Right, found that after posting. Thanks. I know Model S has one or two 10 kW chargers onboard. What does the Roadster have? I know the Roadster can take advantage of 70A charging with its single on-board charger, so it must be rated higher, yeah? At 40A do the Roadster and Model S charge...

Charging at Campgrounds and RV Parks

Anyone know if the Leaf, Volt, and (other non-Teslas) can take advantage of campground charging? Wouldn't they just need a J1772 -> 14-50 adapter?

    PEM Temp Readings

My PEM never seems to go below the third blue bar and also rarely goes above it. That doesn't seem right — that after a 75 degree night, I walk out in the early AM to find the PEM on 3rd blue. And if I walk out to the car in the middle of a 100 degree day with the car parked in full sun, I find...

    Can't pull log files

Solved: I stopped by the office today and created a VehicleLogs folder on the drive using a Windows PC. For some reason the Roadster didn't like the folder being created by my Mac.
  25. A

    Can't pull log files

No, car isn't charging. Yes, VehicleLogs folder exists. Best theory I'm hearing so far is that the wiring harness to the ECU needs to be disconnected and reconnected. What are the chances of doing that myself?

    Can't pull log files

I swear I'm following the instructions, but it goes wrong from the start: When I insert the drive into the USB port nothing happens. The drive's light comes on (but does not flash or flicker) and the Touch Screen does nothing. What gives? I've tried three flash drives now, from 256MB to 2GB, all...

GFCI Trip on Plug in (spare connector)

Thank goodness I found this thread. My 15A charger broke and Tesla said I could buy a new one for $600. Turned out it was just that the cable's GFCI had flaked due to being so frequently plugged into an outlet that was also GFCI. $4 in parts later and I'm back in business. I'll add that the...

    Rear cooling fan 'upgrade'

Just got the front fan shroud upgrade and the rear fan upgrade. Was told the rear fan might be a bit louder but didn't think much about it. Well, it is quite a bit louder. My formerly quiet electric car now has a high-pitched whine that is terribly noticeable even in the cockpit w/ the top on...

Charge in Standard, Drive in Range

Tesla's recommendations amount to best practices for drivers who want to apply minimal thought to the car's operation. Those who care to understand the principles at work can optimize.
  30. A

Charge in Standard, Drive in Range

Temperature is not the only factor in battery wear. There is also just plain use: charging and discharging. Fifty % less available power results in less overall battery use.
  31. A

Charge in Standard, Drive in Range

We've all heard that range mode decreases battery life and why. But it seems to me that charging in standard mode and driving in range mode would extend battery life — so long as you don't bottom-out the battery. The increase in battery life would result from range mode's 50% power reduction...

Wiring for Roadster 2.0 Audio System

There are two fuses that say they are radio-related in the fuse panel rated at 7.5A. Plenty for most stereo/head-unit needs.

Wiring for Roadster 2.0 Audio System

Here's the audio wiring info for anyone who wants to chuck the crappy JVC stereo that came w/ the Roadster 2.0. I looked all over this website and the rest of the web and couldn't find it, so I mapped it out myself. Install was no different than any other stereo swap I've done. 2 Const. 12V...

    Insurance?

When you test drive a car at a dealership, whose insurance is the car covered under? When I test drove the Roadster no one mentioned anything about insurance coverage. But part of me wonders if they expected me (and most of their clientele) to have comprehensive/collision that extends to...

    Insurance?

Insurance — happy with yours? List them here. It might be helpful if roadster owners listed who they use for insurance and whether they're satisfied. Especially those who have had to file claims. Listing the prices paid would also help us be competitive shoppers and perhaps garner a discount...

    Time Interview w/ Elon

An anecdote: In the fourth century BC, Philip of Macedonia was gathering northern Greek cities under his control. Down in Athens the two greatest political orators of the day, Isocrates and Demosthenes, were speaking out. Isocrates was a teacher keen to make sure he presented the facts well...

    Production/Delivery Status

I've not seen the clear plastic "bra coating" offered as an option. By this you mean something other than the paint armor? I'd also like to hear more about whether those who got the paint armor have found it effective.

    Roadster 2.5 The new Roadster

Backup cams Just a reminder, even singe DIN packages support backup cams. Clarion-VZ309 There are even nav units that have a 7" screen that slides out and retracts. In other words, 2.0 owners are probably $1000 away from having perhaps an even better nav system than comes in the 2.5...

    Roadster 2.5 The new Roadster

Good question. My guess is that every 2.5 would have a double-din dash, the second half of which they would just fill up with a cd tray or plastic panel or something. I can't imagine them keeping up with two separate dashes based on, essentially, what stereo you order. If anyone ends up on...

    Roadster 2.5 The new Roadster

7" screen and backup cam If I bought a 2.5 I'd ask them to not install any radio. Then I'd go get a top of the line 7" screen and backup-cam for less than half the price. Pioneer GPS Nav - $1,600 Universal backup cam - $35

Message me about any 2010 roadsters for sale

1,670 miles in Tesla? 1. Would I be crazy to try to drive that Roadster from Denver 1,670 mi back to the East Coast? With couchsurfing.com I could set up a string of homes to charge up at along the way. Say I had the time to do it, does that sound like an adventure? Or a nightmare? 2. I've...

    Buying Used

Gift box.. IPO allocation... does that mean you purchased it (used) from a Tesla Store? Oddly, that possibility hadn't crossed my mind. I asked the question with the intention of buying used from a previous owner. I wonder if you had bought from a previous owner if the technician would have...

    Buying Used

Tesla's attitude toward owners who buy used Does anyone who bought a used Roadster have experience dealing with the Tesla store? In other words, do they treat you like second-class or hem and haw about warranty issues?
