    flat tire experience

On my way to Santa Barbara. Hit a thick chain that was across two lanes on 101. I was one of many cars that did. The two tires on the left side gone. AAA got a flatbed out (took 45 minutes) and he took me to my local America's Tire. I had called to reserve the 4 MXM4's they had in stock. 4 hours...

A moment of solidarity for our CA brethren (HOV stickers)...

Tip. On his suggestion my clear bra guy added the stickers with clear bra underneath so it's easy to remove (even on top of the original clear bra). I got the stickers a few weeks after I added the clear bra.

    Version 9 on AP1

Installed yesterday on 2015 85D AP1. All seems to work well. My AP1 hardware issues were taken care of a months ago at the service center, and this update hasn't done anything weird to it. Valet mode works on mine (someone said it was gone). I am curious to see how well the HOV lane option...

Larger model s tires and wheels

Interesting. I had a P85D loaner with 21" recently (I've got 19" on mine), and on Los Angeles streets and freeways I could definitely feel the difference in comfort. I agree with you on the steering response difference of course. :)

    Tire Changes at what miles?

MXM4s are almost done at about 30k (rotate every 5k), about to rotate tires and the fronts are at 4/32", rears at 5/32". Previous original wheels done at 22k.

    Best 19inch tire

Interesting. I think I will probably get around 30k out of my MXM4s on my 85D. Been rotating the tires, and all. Lots of freeway miles as a commuter. Curious if I should try the Cinturato P7 now. Are you noticing anything as far as ride quality and range?

    PIN to Drive

With your 2018 cars you are not the target of this "feature". Some of us are. I'd prefer to not have my car possibly stolen around town because of a known security blind spot. So not a useless feature. And since they know about the security threat they are potentially liable too (in this country).

    PIN to Drive

There's a proven way to remotely "hack" the old keyfobs to open the car and start it, enabling car thieves to drive away with your car. This is because the keyfob manufacturer did a poor encryption implementation. Apparently it's the same for some other high end car manufacturers relying on the...

Does anyone know how it works with Valet mode? Do I need to turn off "PIN to drive" before I activate Valet mode?

To clarify, I apply it to the driver seat.

Squeak between driver seat and armrest...

I can see on the driver seat side exactly where the contact is, so I applied it there.

    Front seat a bit uncomfortable

I noticed that my driver side seat started rubbing against the center console, and the seat doesn't feel as "snug" as when I bought the car 15 months ago. I measured the distance between the widest part of the bolsters (the stitching line), and the driver side is now 18.3" and the front...

Squeak between driver seat and armrest...

I have the same issue. I measured the widest part of the seat and the driver seat is 18" where as the lesser used passenger seat is 17". I thought I had noticed that the seat didn't feel as "snug" anymore (15 months) and was surprised how and why the noise got started. So I measured the seats...

Help on choosing the right window tint.

I'm in SoCal. Absolutely go for ceramic (quality, heat wise and for mobile phone signal). I was looking at 3M, but didn't like the color shift (warm, a little brown, and not that dark). My highly regarded tint shop suggested I look at their Wincos ceramic automotive film (with life time...

Bit by the XPEL bug! How far did you go?

I did xpel ultimatte, the full front and also the rocker panel and luggage area on my obsidian black. I love it. I did ask the installer about doing the full car. I was particularly worried about car park dings. Too common here in LA. His take was that if done strongly enough to damage the paint...

PremiumShield or Xpel for paint protection?

I did Xpel, "full frontal" (full hood incl headlamps and mirrors) for $1495 and I also added the rocker panel and luggage area for $295 on my obsidian black 85D a year ago. My previous car is black, and after many commuter miles in LA it's full of small hits on the front. After a year of...

    snow chains

I put my Z-chains on the way to Truckee and drove a few hours with them on. They are a pain to tighten properly. Two man job. I had them in the snow storm in January. CHP did check for chains on every car. I had them on the front wheels on my AWD 19" (late 2015). I got some sound that I...

    Snow chains

I got the original chains for my Model S, and I don't like them. Went to Tahoe twice in the last 12 months, and they officially suck. Just saw that they had new ones at the Tesla online store: Tesla — Model S Snow Chain - Trak Sport Looks a little like the Thule K-Summit. EVCarGUy do you...

    The Law vs Magnaplate

That's pics of my car. I like The Law. I took it off after a road trip to properly wash the car. When I did so I noticed that during my road trip the plate had come in contact with the front of the car. I have since added rubber to the back of the license plate to make sure the metal doesn't...

    Front License Plate Solutions

Would need new screws (longer) but I don't see why not. I was more thinking rubber (or foam), with one adhesive side, to not add weight. It'd be nice to have a license plate frame of course visually. Like I have for the back plate.

    Tesla Center Console Changes/Build Quality

Just got mine installed yesterday morning. Here are some pics. First impressions. It sits really well on top of what was there before. Leather is perfect match. The cup holders are great addition and fit my oversized juice travel mug. I didn't like using the armrest ones. I keep the phone...

    Front License Plate Solutions

I test mounted theLaw this morning on my AP car. It was easy to mount. I notice how close the license plate is to the car. Has anyone put anything on the back of the license plate to avoid the plate hitting the car? The AP seems to work fine. I took it for a test drive.

When Do You Open Your Roof?

I agree. Don't use it a lot, even in SoCal, but the aesthetic of sitting in the car with it is pretty unbeatable. Is a luxury, yes. The most practical use I get out of it is mounting my Whispbar Flush roof rack.

Which Roof Box are you using with Whispbar?

That just looks lovely on top of the car. Looks like I am hitting 370 Wh/mi with the Thule. It was windy and hilly where I drove thou. :( The local rack store owner mentioned that Yakima has had problems with the Whispbar boxes. The WB700B I got at REI was great thou too small. Seemed very...

    Front License Plate Solutions

I have my new front license plate on a "the Law" in my frunk as well. Did you every mount it to test? I haven't. I am curious. I live up the coast from LA and where I live very few Tesla's have a front plate mounted. Today when I drove to Santa Monica, that was the biggest realization. Every...

Which Roof Box are you using with Whispbar?

I found one place that still has some Whispbar WB701B inventory, but to be ready for my trip I went on an adventure the last 48 hours to find a local solution. While looking at a Yakima options at REI we spoke to Yakima support (again). They said their brand new Yakima ShowCase 15 fits the...

Service Was Good - Water in Lights & Other

I had a loaner P85, 2013 I think, when it was raining in Los Angeles like crazy a week ago. When I opened the trunk, the door/lid had water coming out of it on the inside when fully extended.

    All weather mats being redesigned

Which Roof Box are you using with Whispbar?

A little more than a week. 7-8 business days. I did return the WB700B to REI. REI doesn't have the WB701B so this morning I ordered from orsracksdirect.com. I hope I can get it before my trip.

    Screen went black while driving!

I had that happen to me when starting up in a parking lot (screen behind steering wheel). The reboot took care of it. My buddy who is interested in buying a Tesla was with me. Request for black obsidian MS pictures

I was going to post pictures of my Obsidian Black, but then I saw the pictures already posted. I agree that it is a beautiful "look". I think of these as looks, since it's so much more than a color. It's got a layered nature to it that brings a richness to it whether you are in sunlight, or...

Which Roof Box are you using with Whispbar?

Yup. I wonder if they forgot to think about how wide the roof rack bars are on the Flush. On a "regular" small bar it would have fit. - - - Updated - - - It won't work. A little more than 1" is needed. The locking handle would hit the front plastic if I continued the "track". No reason to...

Which Roof Box are you using with Whispbar?

Hm. Probably. Thou I would say it's more like 1" needed. I'll look at it in the morning. There's a locking mechanism that needs room to move. Looking at the pics from [email protected] of his WB701, I am thinking that would do the job nicely too. I was a little concerned that it would be too long...

    Premium Rear Console

I got mine a couple of weeks ago. Looks great. The kids love having the cup holders they are used to. It's a little impractical when we do school runs and sometimes picks up additional kids. The hinge does seem a little "weak" (or perhaps I am just knowledgeable about the issue already). I see...
