    I agree....those vertical supports are massive. I think there is some confusion about what the crane might carry. I suspect opening a casting facility in California is not the best idea due to environmental and permitting constraints, although those high voltage insulators are curiously large...

    Signs of wear usually show as higher contact resistance. Contactor problems are apparently being solved by new more robust design from a new supplier.

    HV Contactor Longevity

    Scotty, my understanding is Tyco (formerly Kilovac) contactors are not able to handle the Tesla power levels and are being replaced with those from a new supplier. Plus Tyco moved their contactor manufacturing offshore and may have lost some of their quality control.
