Well, for the fun of it I decided to try Ameriprise. Their quote was almost exactly twice what we are paying with GEICO in Virginia. So far, this has been pretty consistent - every quote I get is 50-200% higher than GEICO.

I did it a few times, including at high speeds. When at high speeds, it simply puts the car in neutral. Tapping the lever down allowed me to continue driving.

That's just so misleading. For gas cars, it's mostly the old clunkers that catch fire. The Tesla fleet, on the other hand, is probably no more than 3 years old on average.

It makes no sense to have a high deductible on a Tesla. Any accident will result in at least a couple grand repair just to your car. it also never makes sense to insure cars on separate policies. You will always pay more.

FYI, I'm exactly like you - never use moonroof and think they are a waste of money. Almost made the huge mistake of not ordering one. Until I sat in a Tesla without one - it was like a very uncomfortable cave. Do yourself a favor and check one out without the roof before making the decision.

I also recently drove both and, for me, 85D felt significantly more powerful. I'll be ordering the 85D. Given the way that I drive, that extra $10K is absolutely worth the price.
