Thanks all. Will give the advice a try this weekend. Happy Friday

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

For those of you who've successfully replaced the fronts, will it be an issue if my top hats came crooked from Tesla (see attached)? I'm not sure how this will play out during installation, since I need to align the top hat studs into three holes while re-installing the 21mm bolt through the...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

Imho, there are two pieces of information that I thought was important in my decision to replace the Nyloc nuts: Nyloc nuts will never be as secure as the first time they were tightened. Tightening the nut will force the Nylon into plastic deformation to provide ample friction against...

    The elusive thin-walled 13mm socket

Thanks @afadeev. Got me one of those 2300MZ-13 sockets and measured OD to be 17.1 mm.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

I concur with everything you said. At work there is a speed bump that feels awfully violent if I drive above 20 mph. Today I took that speed bump at 30 mph and the new rear dampers really helped reduce the peak acceleration I felt as the rear tires hit the bump. A tad bit more time to settle...

Take this with a grain of salt since I have only replaced the rear dampers, not fronts yet: It made no difference to noise. Changing tyres likely makes a bigger difference to noise, since they are rotating at high speed and generating audible frequencies (100’s Hz).

Yeah, my unloaded rebound test was for my own amusement, to see if there was any tangible difference between the old and new dampers 😅 .

out with the old, in with the new The old dampers, when compressed by hand, rebounded much, much slower than the new dampers. Took about 2.5 hours to do the rears.

This is an overblown concern. Springs that are fully relaxed during suspension work need to be used for some time before they settle back into their original height. Yes, technically these dampers do exhibit a small restoring force because of the gas chamber in the monotube, but even I can...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

You can only purchase the fronts as an assembly from Tesla, meaning the springs are already part of the shock and you won't need to use any spring compressors to install the springs, which some people do not feel comfortable using (lots of energy stored in a compressed car suspension spring)...

Wanted to see if the rear dampers make a difference. If they don't, then I may not change the front, because the rears are much easier and less expensive (materials and tools) to do than the fronts. But if all goes well and it does improve ride comfort, I will be ordering the front pair.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

I just ordered a pair of Rear Damper Assembly P/N 1344465-00-B to replace the original rear dampers on my 2018. Costs $230 ($115/unit) and a week to ship the parts to my local service center. Not bad. There's practically no difference in the springs, maybe slightly softer. The majority of the...
