Average wall charger install call (Midwest)

You have about $400-600 of wire alone and the price of copper is very unstable right now with housing builds restarting. Wire price is dependant on supply and demand. There have been recent shortages of breakers at electrical supply houses so the bottom line is the contractor will usually bid...

Model Y Perf or BMW X3M?

I would just say that if you buy any TESLA you, like 95% of TESLA owners, will never go back to a BMW. Can the same be said about BMW?

    Software Update 2020.44.10.1?

My experience is the car will automatically change speed up to the speed you engaged FSD at. If you engage at 60 it will adjust for all speeds under 60 and back up to 60 but not higher. I believe this is just a safety issue. Likewise if you engage FSD at 45 it will adjust lower as you move...

Is it possible your range loss may be because of the replacement tires - just curious.

Wow, we need to find another way to heat EVs

The other thing to keep in mind is the energy use for heating is not linear either. You cannot use the energy usage for the first 20 miles to extrapolate the last 20 miles the heating energy needed is not the same. Getting the KWh per mile to settle down by limiting speed and keeping the heat...

Model 3 review - After moving from RWD to AWD

Anyone needing additional tax credit always has the option of converting IRA money to ROTH IRA to incur additional tax to offset a tax credit. We have done this a couple of times sizing the conversion to the tax credit we want to offset.

Unexpectedly purchasing an M3 for delivery on Tuesday

We bought an additional Tesla mobile connector from Tesla for $300 which puts out 32 amps at 220V. This is more than sufficient to charge a car with a big battery like the 3. It plugs into a 1450 outlet and you can use the one that comes with the 3 until a new one arrives. There is no other...

Are you OK with AutoPilot jail?

I think it is unsafe to take your eyes off the road to check the display all the time and yes I have my hands on the wheel, I just don't like the way you don't know how much pressure on the wheel is needed. I have had a couple of times I overcompensated and took the car out of AP causing a...

    I-94 SC's - getting crowded with M3?

I have noticed an increase in Grand Rapids, but I also want to note that new owners may want to try out the SC network near home before they have to depend on it on a trip. I think we will see a spike as people are getting cars that may slack off as time progresses. I came to this conclusion by...

    Michigan home delivery question

Our Model X was delivered by a third party two years ago who spent almost 2 hours setting up the car for us and showing us the features so even though a third party is doing the delivery, they are very knowledgeable. We picked up our Model 3 in Cleveland in April just so we would be able to meet...

Can't Release 110V Adapter on Portable Charger | Model X

I don't know if you have access to a 120 Volt plug, but we charge all the time on 120V even though we have 5 other level 2 chargers at our house. Gaining 4 miles per hour more than compensates for our average use. For those times when we are planning a long trip and need a faster charge, we just...

    Owning a Tesla in Michigan

I would agree with megawizz. I am from a Ford family - my father retired from Ford, I retired from Ford with over 35 years each. There are a few who question my loyalty to Ford, but not many. My explanation is if you really want to help legacy companies from self inflicted harm by not building...

Joe, I can send out a note to the Michigan Electric Auto Association to see if anyone can be there. I would attend, but we are out of town that day. Jeremy Orr [email protected] from the Tri-Cities Clean Energy Coalition organized an electric car show last year in TC and may have some local...

    Pearson Airport 10day cold soak

I believe that only applies if you charge all the way up and leave the vehicle in extremely hot temperatures. I agree that parking after the trip to the airport left the car at 90% and then parking in extreme cold should not have caused any damage.

    Miami Valley Tesla Owners...

Its not just a 'beginner' problem - I had driven EV's for 6 years and thought I was pretty savvy, but the bigger battery in the Tesla changes everything. First lesson was don't waste your time planning where to stop to charge on a long trip - the Tesla GPS calculates it all - just put in your...

    Planning on the Model 3

I would go no larger than 100 amps. We charge two EVs from 60 amps and are quite happy with it. The knee jerk reaction we all have is to feed a large battery car like a Tesla with all the power it will take (40 or 80 amps), but all that is needed is enough current to replace the average miles...

    Michigan Tesla Owners

The DTE program has ended. Signing on to the 'special' rate for EV owners is usually not advantageous. The meter fees wipe out any reduction in KW cost so it becomes better to just charge at your regular meter rate. We had a charger put in by AJ Leo Electric & Solar from Ypsilanti. They did a...

    Question about SuperCharger etiquette

Probably won't cause a problem since the Tesla limits 120V charging to 12 amps which amounts to a little over 3 miles per hour. It adds up. We are renting a cottage where we can charge overnight giving us 50-70 miles average a day to do day trips.

    Question about SuperCharger etiquette

I, like many new Tesla owners, prepared for charging a much larger battery than I was used to by installing a Tesla home charger with a 60 amp service. Then it occurred to me that I am still driving the same distance that I used to so adding charge to my vehicle is essentially the same as it is...

    Tesla Master Plan Part 2 & 3

Just took a 500 mile trip and we took a break for coffee in the morning and 30-40 minutes for lunch - every time we were ready, the car was ready sooner. I need a break from driving at least every 3-4 hours so the SC speed fits me just fine. We usually stopped at every other SC.

    Tesla Master Plan Part 2 & 3

    Off-grid solar charging

I think one of the problems you are trying to solve is a common mistake people often make. The charge you need to add to your car is only enough for your next trip so always charging to 'full' and the kw needed for that is sizing for a very unusual situation where you would have two back to back...
