    Model S Wagon?

Well this thread is pretty old but anyway... I guess that as soon as the GigaFactory is running they will have both a larger cashflow for model development but mor importantly, they're gonna want to have cars for many more segments when they are able to meet the demand. Im guessing for a volvo...

Audi, Porsche and Mercedes preparing a rival for Tesla

Specs = size, shape, features, choosing a chemistry with a good compromise in performance, longevity and price. Battery chemistry = a science that is developed and patented by some large companies and universities. Tesla is not into this research as far as i know, and have nothing to add there...

60D and P85 was just canceled (as was green, brown and black roofs)

So a adding D to the 85 cost 5k instead of 4k, but is that a price increase of the 85D or a price decrease of the 85 (non-D)? Or a un-even change in both?

60D and P85 was just canceled (as was green, brown and black roofs)

But now you can get the P85D much cheaper as the tech pack and other stuff have become optional. It starts at ~105k instead of ~120k. And now you land at 120 only after adding most luxuries. Can't confirm it but it seems like an average decerase in price for the P85D.

    Euroncap crash test results

Ok, thats interesting. I Didn't look that closely. I hope that means that the version being produced right now would score even higher, considering autopilot, airbag, and the relative ease of fixing the GUI. The pedestrian should absolutely be in a better situation when all the new sensors are...

    Electric planes

Im not too sure that a small hole to a larger cavity will decrease the air speed much. In a rocket nozzle, after the gas passes the waist, the expansion decreases the pressure and temperature but keeps the speed of the gas high. Though at the outlet you should have something like a nozzle i...

    Elon Musk

Ibdvideo. Well i think you have to think like this: a propeller/turbine/jet in subsonic motion creates thrust both from the pressure distribution it creates and from conservatioin of momentum when throwing stuff backwards. In supersonic flight the pressure wont help you so its alla bout...

    Euroncap crash test results

I looked at that after hearing the bragging about it, but i was a bit disapointed with the 0-100 safety rating for Adult/child/pedestrian/safety assist. Didn't compare very well to the average numbers of Mercedes for example, but also other premium cars. Model S 82/77/66/71 Maserati*...

Tesla Motors - The Early Years

Has he actually said anything along those lines? He rarely speaks about Tesla being a company before he came along, but i do remember an interview where he tells the story of when he wanted to bring the AC propulsion vehicle to market, that he was refered to those guys who had started Tesla and...

Vienna Taxi Co replaces 20 Prii with 20 Model S.

A lot of mercs are taxis, still respectable cars - - - Updated - - - I like that plural form of Prius

Audi, Porsche and Mercedes preparing a rival for Tesla

Sure you are right about that, and i did mention the high price for that reason. The point is more that the development of high performance tech is possible from other manufacturers too. And if these guys prefer to do a hand built supercar with slightly more efficient and much more expensive...

Ford to Build Model S Competitor?

Ford, GM, could technically build a car like the model S, because they have some knowledge and the money to hire more people with the knowledge they lack. But it would take time, because they haven't started, and the car would be expensive. By the time they have developed the 2014 model S...

Nice. Thanks, then i can cut that line of thought.

    Elon Musk

About the aircraft. Well, for it to be supersonic it needs to have a jet engine with supersonic output fumes which is kind of similar to a rocket engine, you basically need a nozzle. Its not gonna be an open rotor as far as I understand. In supersonic mode you have no use for regular wings or...

Audi, Porsche and Mercedes preparing a rival for Tesla

Get me right now, I'm a huge Tesla fanboy, but if anyone thinks that no-one else is near Tesla from a tech standpoint, look at what Mate Rimac has created with Rimac Automobili, using a staff of 20 ish people. His car, the Concept_One, is super expensive (~900 000) but it does 0-60 mph in 2.8...

Audi, Porsche and Mercedes preparing a rival for Tesla

So I dont know why my last comments didn't come through... Anyways @ckessel yea that should be 'decades';) @sandpiper I do agree with most stuff you say! @arb1ter Well a lot of companies have been producing electric devices for decades (centuries?;) without getting the edge that Tesla has...

Audi, Porsche and Mercedes preparing a rival for Tesla

Oooops;) i meant decades! @Sandpiper. I agree with basically everything you say. Tesla has a very strong guiding light in Elon Musk and the start-up approach they are taking with in-house soft-ware heavy solutions. And they design it from scratch, which is ever so impressive. But, once other...

Tesla Appears on Big Guys' Map (2006 news item)

@Takumi. In the near future you might be right. But in 30 years or so batteries will have improved dramatically, and may be the introduction of Flow-Cells or other new tech can change things to be even better. But we will not be using fossil fuels to any extent. Hybrids simply aren't a good...

Audi, Porsche and Mercedes preparing a rival for Tesla

@Krugerrand. Indeed it is important, especially to the most conservative. @ Arb1ter. I agree that it is very different. But these companies have probably been studying hybrid drive-trains for a while and already have a lot of electronics in their cars. Tesla is leading, but when these...

New White House Petition to stop States from banning direct car sales

I'm not accustomed to American law. But you can order anything off the web. Showrooms are nothing new either. How do you argue that cars should somehow be exempt from all other products? And regarding competition, aren't other manufacturers free to have direct sales over the internet as well? If...

Audi, Porsche and Mercedes preparing a rival for Tesla

I don't see how people can say that these companies don't have a chance against Tesla. Of course they do. They have lots of experience and highly skilled people making the best of cars for centuries. I think they will adapt very rapidly and with great succes. I'm sure they are developing the...
