    Insurance in Canada - p3d

Interesting - the cost of repairs are increasing so I can see that being a reason for insurances rates to go up. But given all of the price cuts in the last year or so replacement value for Teslas is way down, is it not?

What's the adventure of Auld's Cove vs Antigonish? Being 50km farther from previous SCs? I have to think that pretty much all vehicles going to Auld's Cove would have come through Antigonish. Or even Port Hastings?

Alberta imposing $200 EV tax starting in 2025

Look at the most popular vehicles being sold in North America. The F150 and Model 3/Y are both up there. Most buyers of an F150 don't need a pickup, a Model 3/Y provides as much utility as a truck. What does CO2 have to do with road taxes? Pricing negative externalities like forms of...

Alberta imposing $200 EV tax starting in 2025

They also don't pollute at the tailpipe, either CO2 or other types of pollutants. That should be promoted. When you buy electricity in Ontario you are paying HST so both levels of government are getting some revenue, albeit less than from gasoline. They are a bit heavier, but not necessarily...

Alberta imposing $200 EV tax starting in 2025

From the story. FYI, the government in Alberta is very right wing, they recently paused approval of new wind and solar projects until they could figure out a framework for remediation of such sites after they reach the end of their useful life. Meanwhile Alberta has thousands of abandoned oil...

Alberta imposing $200 EV tax starting in 2025

Not wanting to be out anti-woked by Saskatchewan, Alberta is going to implement an EV tax of $200 starting next year. Saskatchewan has had an EV tax since 2021. https://thelogic.co/news/shift/alberta-ev-tax-puts-focus-on-trend-towards-heavier-vehicles/

What are the new SCs on the recently updated maps for Southern Ontario. Bowmanville seems to be one, I don't think that was there before. Is the third SC for Markham new? There are also three coming soon in Mississauga - are any of these new?

I put this in the Auld's Cove thread, but the Canadian Tire could be a good location:

    Supercharger - Aulds Cove, NS

For the Truro site - what about the Canadian Tire? Tesla seems to have an agreement with Canadian Tire and they have several SCs her in Ontario in Canadian Tire lots. And that looks like it could be a good location in Truro. Like where I have drawn a red circle in this map:

    Apple & Android Watch support

I think I paid a few dollars for it, but I bought it more than five years ago, when I got my first Apple Watch, shortly after they were introduced. It appears to be $9.99 these days.

    Apple & Android Watch support

What! Are you insinuating that Elon lies? I have had an app called Tesla Remote for years that works on the Watch. It is called "Remote for Tesla" by Rego apps on the Apple app store.

Model S windshield cracks almost every winter

I have had my car since January of 2015 and have not had to replace the windshield - I guess I am lucky. Is your car sitting outside or in a garage - mine is in an unheated garage so it doesn't get too cold.

Kingston V3 is a dead area? All of the fast food restaurants that I mentioned are less than 200m away:
  26. wayner

    Supercharger - Brockville, ON

Isn't there an issue about the amount of power going into the ONRoute sites. Some of them are in fairly remote locations and may not be able to support a dozen or more SCs. That was mentioned by a former active user on this site who worked for one of the electrical utilities.

Kingston isn't cumbersome at all. Gan is cumbersome. Kingston is very close to the highway, I have used it many times, especially the newer site on the south side by the Panera. And within easy walking distance you have Panera, Pita Pit, McDs, DQ, A&W, Wendys, Arby's, Boston Pizza, Starbucks...

    Supercharger - Brockville, ON

The downside is that other than the DQ there aren't a lot of food options. With Kingston, if you don't mind walking 200 metres or so you have a ton of fast food options.

Tesla is in the business of making money. Hwy 11 through Northern Ontario doesn't get a ton of traffic and if you really need to go from North Bay to Nipigon then you can take the Hwy through the Soo and have Supercharging along the way. The ROI on that route is going to be pretty low. The...

    Supercharger - Morrisburg, ON

Agreed, I was hoping that they would move the Brockville site to Prescott. But they have other sites very close together - Port Hope and Coburg, Belleville and Trenton, Kingston ang Gan. Those are all about the same distance apart as Prescott and Brockville.

Chatham is too far off the highway, but somewhere southeast of Chatham just off the highway makes sense. But there isn't much in terms of food services around those exits.

    Supercharger - Brockville, ON

It is hard to tell from the photo, but it seems to me like the site is on the other side of the entrance road from the DQ so there would be dozens of parking spots. See my fancy illustration below.

    Supercharger - Brockville, ON

Exactly! Lots of room, just not a lot of services, other than the DQ. Take a pee, grab a Blizzard and off you go.

    Supercharger - Brockville, ON

How is the parking lot too small? It looks plenty large, especially if no one goes to the mall. The other side of the 401 would be better, but I can live with this. I like DQ!

    Supercharger - Brockville, ON

Are you sure the address is correct? That looks like a Dairy Queen logo between two chargers. The Dairy Queen appears to be south of the 401, the address given (2399 Parkdale) is north of the 401. I think the correct address is more like 125 Stewart Blvd - approximately the NE Corner of...

Wow! Unicorns do exist! Relatively close to several fast food options:
  40. wayner

    Supercharger - Morrisburg, ON

They are in some areas, but not in others. Southwestern Ontario once you get past Woodstock is pretty lacking with only London, Windsor and Comber along the 401. And the 401 E of Gan is also pretty slim, although less so once this site goes ahead, plus Brockville, assuming that happens.
  41. wayner

    Supercharger - Morrisburg, ON

But you could easily serve both routes with a SC at Prescott, or as close as possible to the 416/401 interchange.
  42. wayner

    Supercharger - Morrisburg, ON

Brockville has been on the Coming Soon map since 2018. I hope it happens but this is the longest that I have seen in my 9 years of owning a Tesla. And Prescott would be a better location for folks going to/from the US from Ottawa and crossing over at the Seaway-Skyway bridge.
  43. wayner

    Supercharger - Morrisburg, ON

But does it really change for Montreal-Toronto travelers if this were in Prescott instead of Morrisburg? And 67 miles is actually a pretty long stretch on the 401 east of Toronto. Between Port Hope and Gananoque you have Port Hope, Cobourg, Trenton, Belleville, Napanee, Gananoque and...

    Supercharger - Morrisburg, ON

Disagree. This doesn't work if you are going to Ottawa - Brockville or Prescott do. Should be 20km SW of this site.
  45. wayner

    Supercharger - Morrisburg, ON

Dumb location - this should be in Prescott! Then you get Ottawa-Toronto drivers. This location doesn't work so well if you are taking the 416 to Ottawa, or going from Ottawa to the US.

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

When you look at the Tesla SC map SW Ontario is pretty low in terms of SCs with only Woodstock, London and Comber. Compare that to the area between Port Hope and Kingston where you have 7 sites.

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

How do you even know what is V2 vs V3? Do you have to decode it from the Tesla website: This is Pickering: 20 Superchargers, available 24/7, up to 150kW And this is Scarborough: 8 Superchargers, available 24/7, up to 250kW So given the max of 250kW vs 150 kW that implies V3 vs V2 - is that...

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

Ok, that makes sense. I didn't know about the cable length issue. Are there still V1 and V2 SCs or were they all retrofit to be at least V3.

Doesn't this only apply to non-Tesla EVs? Do you care that much if it is V3 or V4 if you are driving a Tesla?
