Tesla Owner and EV enthusiast tries out BMW i3 for 4 days

Because it's a dealer ("Honest" motor, dealer since 1964) not Nissan the company! Introducing a model which wasn't their bread and butter was a hard decision for them. To consider the pricing model first assumption would be quantity ... it turned out that they were correct i.e. 4 years ago...

    3G connection lost, on V6.2

If you have to reboot it every other day you'll have to ring/email Tesla there be hardware issue!

    85D range

My observation after using v7 is that the "typical range" is now very (have to bold this) accurate. My 90% "typical range" used to be around 360-364km however I always have to discount this number. Now I found that 90% typical range is 340km, initially I thought "what the ..." is that...

    HKEV Airport Charger summary

It's a CLP CHAdeMO station, it's good for LEAF, Mitsubishi ... etc and Tesla if you bought an adapter. It's rated at 50kW and you could only top up 25kWh each time.

Charging with a standard BS1363 (household 3 prong) socket - review

It's slow if you compare 13A with supercharger. However the beauty of EV is that everywhere with a plug is a "gas station" there is nothing better than refueling while the car isn't in motion, e.g. I top up 20-21% (10A) while at work. The car isn't moving anyway, imagine that every parking...

    Driver door handle not working

If you aren't driving alone then you could ask your front seat passenger to help you open from inside. I hope you haven't yet got center console installed yet or else it'll be very clumsy to climb over. I guess it's not the handle itself (extending is OK) that isn't working it must be...

    Windshield washer not working?

Have you tried pressing the button harder at the end of the stalk? I heard report saying it wasn't working but that guy didn't realize that button is of 2 steps, first for one stroke wiper second (harder) to activate water spray.

    MCU reliability issue

I did annual service just couple of weeks ago, I had firmware upgrade done on it as well, all went well. I'm surprised that they informed you to go pick up the car without first checking that everything went smoothly. I think that particular guy who handled your case didn't do a good job. I...

3 days and 500kms review in Hong Kong

@Titus, nice report. I assume you don't have home charging, are you still working on it or it's a complete NO NO, just curious! The left hand signal stalk still gets me from time to time, especially at exit to roundabout. I do worry that the sudden lost of power will get someone kissing me...

Hall of Shame-- Supercharger Parking Over Time (SPOT)

This isn't applicable to Tesla, the plug is locked until owner is back. Some charging stations are designed to eject the cable when charging is complete or limit (time or kWh) is up.
  15. 3

Frequency of occupied Superchargers & "peak hours"

With "only" 9 months+ experience I can only speak for myself. Should I wait to see sufficient EV infrastructure available or I should bring one more EV on the road such that people will see the demand for better EV infrastructure? I witnessed the growth of superchargers I also see the...

    Hybrid to Model S experiences

I don't want to mislead you about that 500km, it's 500km "between SC visit", meaning that you don't necessarily have to charge at SC and don't have to empty your tank before you go SC charging. The rate of charging is not linear so the closer you are to 100% the slower it would be. In other...

Calling all Residence Bel-Air owners who want a charger installed

100% with you on that. I have a plan. The government should set up a fund, say $1billion dollar, for private property owners (Inc owners, building manager ...etc) to apply and use the money to upgrade the incoming switchboard to enable EV charging facilities. The payback should be long say...

    Hybrid to Model S experiences

Just don't go swimming after you have plugged into a SC unless you normally swim for 15 minutes, fast shower and run back/forth between pool and SC parking! I had the same anxiety but it's all gone, my 85kWh can go 500km between SC, and everytime I SC charge only for 30minutes. It's not...

Thought of a interesting business model involving Teslas

Someone could be doing that already. W hotel has a fleet of Teslas someone said the hotel doesn't own the fleet instead it's outsourced. There could be other hotels having the same arrangement.

  22. 3

Hall of Shame-- Supercharger Parking Over Time (SPOT)

Great idea but that requires special hardware for SC in Hong Kong, an idea I mentioned elsewhere is for Tesla to requiring registration of valid credit card account if owners want to enjoy free SC charging, it's kind of like Apple walled garden iTune. Owners may opt out of this if they have...

Does it secure to use 3rd party remote app ?

"Remote S", "ConneTT" and Tesla's app do the same, i.e. requires your ID/pwd to gain access, you'll have to trust the app designer that there isn't any secret sauce in the code. Having said that as these are available in Apple's app store I guess somehow they must have been checked for...

    Driving Tesla VS ICE cars

    1. the car has so many updates in recent months I remember when I test driven it (October 2014), I had to use left/right foot on a steep slope (Western district going uphill), now I don't have to because the brake holds the car for 1 second (saw this somewhere in other places) then I have enough...

Calling all Residence Bel-Air owners who want a charger installed

very good deal you have, "110m and cost was under HK$53K" + SS box enclosing the wall connector, congratulation. BTW I'm still struggling with my estate management my 2nd bet is to settle with a humble 13A outlet instead of 32A supply to the wall connector, very frustrated. In fact charging...

    first time experience with supercharger

I'm sure the battery after 8 years is still good it's the degradation in capacity that matters. Say a LEAF after 4 years has about 60-70% of original capacity (someone quoted this) so you'll have to charge it more frequently. LEAF doesn't have thermo control for the battery pack which helps...

"Check Tire Pressure System, Call Tesla Service"

... and another impressive Tesla service story ...

Yes unless you definitely need the loaner be considerate as there could be someone else who need it more than you do. I did enjoy a P85+ loaner for a day while they had to check the 3G reception and firmware upgrading issue. Normally they have enough staff to go to your work location to do...

    first time experience with supercharger

You'll get warning on the 17" screen if you charge to 100%, from experimenting different % I think 94% is the upper bound if you don't want to see the warning. Repeatedly charging to 100% will affect battery life. Charging rate slows down dramatically anyway when it's near the top.
  34. 3

    Firmware update done

Nothing exciting, too bad no update on iOS app yet can only blame Apple I guess, improvement on TACC not noticeable so far.
  35. 3

    Cruise not available

It's not really autopilot per se, and certainly not autonomous driving (yet), traffic aware cruise control isn't anything new and with the hardware available features like blind spots warning, automatic parallel parking, emergency breaking ... etc (could be more in due course) are just matter of...

Finally, got confirmed P85D delivery date

I have this gap on the left which is good for a few cables while on the right the gap is good for just one paper card. I suggest you softly touch and move items whenever you see gap making sure it's consistent, symmetrical and reasonable (check showroom car if necesary).
  37. 3

    Cruise not available

I'm not sure and it'll be good to find out from Tesla, I thought TACC uses the radar (bumper) to tell gap in front and camera (rear mirror) is to tell speed limit signs and future autonomous driving (reading white lines on road)? May be it uses both, for safety, I was a Japan a while ago lots...

Life with model s without home charger

@Mille Pun, welcome to the club of "denied home charging". Cruise not available

I have TACC turned on all the time (a button at the end of the stalk) you'll see at the dash a small triangular thing on the circle indicating that it's ON. I go from Island side so I don't use it for busy traffic until I hit the tunnel. In the X-harbor it's easy (lazy), i.e. gently move...

    Cruise not available

I use TACC all the time, every single day, this "cruise not available" (I didn't count) happens once or twice per week. Every time I just waited for a while and reactivated it, it just works. Did you try reactivating the cruise control after that "not available" alarm?

    EV Link business model

Sad to hear that @silverbird, what you said is reinforcing what I knew, for some reasons their agenda is to please/entertain management companies not individuals? That's strange I hope there isn't any deals under the carpets, owners pay for the management services after all, we are their boss!
  45. 3

    EV Link business model

Agree however I'm a victim of their business model, i.e. they charge ridiculous price for installation, in a way it's hurting the EV grow in HK. It doesn't hurt Tesla but it's not helping the grow of EV community as a whole.

Extra set of wall mounted Power Connector & 19 inches of standard rim for sales

+1 for this idea, say cost of the connector to Tesla is $2k if we have 100 of them joining the program that's 200k to charity, it's publicity for Tesla furthermore if Tesla could find a developer as partner for this publicity then some of these connectors can be free issued for installation at...

Delay in dual motors version delivery

Once it's in production it'll take 3 days to finish ... then testing/paperworks and wait for the rest of the batch, inland transport to port and get on a ship ... etc. I would say 4-6 weeks before you could see it in Tsuen Wan.

    Charge Port problem

Agree @AppleFan, I enjoyed (P85+) loaner once, they also offered to pick up my car at work but since I was quite remote and didn't want to go home by public transport so I decided to spend time consuming their coffee/ice cream waiting at the shop!

Where Would You Suggest Tesla To Build Their Supercharging Stations In Hong Kong?

@DITB, any chance talking Sino Group into providing type 2 and Tesla's destination charger to the public parking at Gold Coast and their hotel? I seldom drive there (I run to instead) and notice that there is sufficient open space for a couple of charging spots with solar panel. It's...
