What is a 6yo Model S worth with 150K miles?

I personally disagree with this. Look at the Roadster. There is an upgrade coming out that will increase its range basically doubling it. Unlike an ICE car it is possible to make your BEV car better with age. Although not a guarantee, I can see a time in the not too distance future where Tesla...

Premium Sound - Weak Rear Sound

I have long thought the same thing -- the sound is not immersive. I also think it has some strange DSP/EQ settings applied. In my 2004 Lexus RX330 we had amazing sound that felt like it enveloped you (before we blew out all of the speakers). In the Tesla we have pretty great sound from the...

    Something more than 6.0?

I just got the upgrade notice as well and am installing it now. I have a model with the new sensors on it and was stuck at 5.14. Not sure if I'm getting 6.0, Autopilot or other. Not getting my hopes up while at the same time getting my hopes up!

how many kept your old ICE around as a backup? And how long before selling it?

We still have our 2004 Lexus RX 330 hanging around. I'll likely keep it not because it has an ICE but because having a 2nd vehicle can be good at times. If I could afford a second Model S I would do that in a heartbeat! I think once the Model E, er, 3 comes out I'll dump the ICE car then. I...

Question about factory tinting of windshield glass

This may be a silly question, but the wife and I noticed that the windshield glass as shipped from Tesla has a distinct red hue to it whereas the side windows have a blue hue to them. You can pretty clearly see the difference in spectrum by just looking at a white object out of each window...

NASA culture and constraints vs. SpaceX

Trying not to drive too far OT, but NASA has to dance to a lot more than just budgets. Politics tend to get in the way of their innovation. The NASA engineers can be great, but I have found more than one beaten down by years of working for the agency. IMO SpaceX today is what NASA was in the...

    Why not the moon?

We did send LCROSS to impact the moon and find water. Here is the NASA press conference after the initial data was analyzed: LCROSS Science Briefing November 13th 2009 - YouTube While the data does show water, how much is still up for a bit of debate. - - - Updated - - - They may. While not an...

    Why not the moon?

It depends. While it does take more energy overall, you can harvest the water on the moon to make LOx and LH2 for rocket fuel which brings the per launch mass waaay down. Just bring the fuel you need to get to the moon then launch from the Lunar pole to get to Mars. You can also launch from a...

    Why not the moon?

I would ask: why not both? The moon can ask as a pretty awesome launching point for Mars. If we're to colonize Mars there is a good case to be made for using the Moon as a waypoint to get there. Send the initial vehicles from Earth to the Moon. Then have cyclers go between the Moon and Phobos in...

    SpaceX: Dragon V2 Unveil - May 29, 2014

Elon has a way of making the final product look even cooler than the pre-released one. I have little fear.

    SpaceX: Dragon V2 Unveil - May 29, 2014

PILOT! OMG, small world! Yeah, we changed to TMRO from SVC because, frankly, I wanted to. Hosting from inside of Dragon V2 would be complicated. It was hard enough getting audio and video in the capsule the first time. That wasn't a mockup and you'll notice that there were no umbilicals. That...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I spoke too soon... While my status did change to "Your Model S has entered the production queue at our Factory in Fremont, California." I just got a call from my delivery specialist who said that the factory is still 7 to 10 days behind schedule. He was concerned that my unit had not yet...

    SpaceX: Dragon V2 Unveil - May 29, 2014

I was the one who coordinated the live broadcast of the event (I'm a SpaceX employee who works on the video systems in the company). I have spent a lot of time in Dragon V1 and V2 but this particular event was something special. After said event I was able to get my wife (who also works at...

    Model S Order & Delivery Tracker - Q1 2014

Or maybe they have the new line running at higher speeds now and can really start to crank more cars out? Heard they were maybe running multiple shifts, possible they will also be working over the holiday weekend to get back on track?
