Article in the Wash Examiner Electric cars may be worse for the environment than gas"

As others have noted, the model conveniently ignores several inputs to pollution, including pollution associated with fuel extraction, production and transportation. It also performs the study on a marginal 1000 vehicles basis. Doing it on this basis may simplify the modelling but is...

Charging behavior when leaving car unattended for a few days?

You'd think that after all the employee poaching Apple has done to Tesla, that Tesla would switch their priorities to the Android app. But NO, we still have to put up with no notifications and smiting lightning bolts ;) PS: When I go away for several days, I just lower my SOC target to 50% and...

70D and 85D highway MPGe compared

Agree. Also add to that battery management is probably more efficient in the 85 versus the 70 on a per kWh basis.

Possible error on Model S CPO website: missing Parking Sensors?

I agree there is an issue. There are plenty of 2014 cars that should have parking sensors and don't list them. It would be nice if they set up the search capability a bit better so you could do a search for a car with the features you want instead of just browsing. Maybe they'll add that...

    Tesla App on Android

While I don't doubt that's true in the Bay Area and SoCal, it is certainly not the case in Tesla's key markets in Europe and Asio, where Android dominates. It's just a resource prioritization issue. It appears App improvements in general have taken a back seat to Car software improvements.

    Brain impact from launches ?

I hope all P85D drivers are received appropriate James Bond Style g-force training before attempting launches: There is a centrifugal bond present - YouTube
  12. D

    Brain impact from launches ?

The person in question had their head firmly planted against the seat, so there wouldn't have been any impact force. It sounds like the launch may have scared the guy, causing him to tense up. If the driver took his foot off the peddle all of a sudden, that might be enough to wrench a neck. I...

    Brain impact from launches ?

Most likely acute hypochondria. The 1g of acceleration when you "launch" the P85D is literally the same magnitude of force constantly applied the brain by gravity. And that 1g is exceeded by many other activities like jerking your head around during active exercise, skiing, etc.

Can anyone beat 3.19% financing for 84-month term?

Check out Alliant credit Union. They do a lot of Teslas. I'm not sure about current rate, but they gave me 1.74% on an 84 month a while back.

California Superchargers- how busy are they?

I live in LA and did a road trip to Kansas last September. At most stops along the way, I was either the only Tesla, or the recharging stations were half full. I think it's fair to say that we didn't waste anymore time charging as compared to travelling by ICE and needing to stop to change...

Supercharger - San Diego, CA (Qualcomm / Pacific Heights Blvd., 12 V2 stalls)

As an Angelino who goes down to SD regularly, I can attest that with a range charge at one of the LA superchargers or Rancho C., you can make it to SD and back up to San Juan Cap. just fine. Notwithstanding that, SD does desperately need a couple SCs.

Gilroy to Atascadero via Route 1

After picking up my car in Freemont, I did a Range charge in Gilroy and took the slow route, including the 17 mile scenic drive in Monterrey. I made it to Pismo with 20RM left. There is a hotel there with a HPWC, so we charged overnight. But you should be able to make it to Atascondero with no...

I have the grey leather an like it. However, it does take a bit more care than other leather seats I have had in the past. Specifically you'll need to be careful of dye transfer and anything kid related.... Side note: I like tan interiors in cars, but somehow the Tesla Black and tan...

Ultra High Fidelity - probably only worth it when listening to USB FLAC or good mp3s?

Before buying I test listened both and the UHFS was better, even with slacker at 128kbps. I will note that the Dolby implementation is bad, so I usually turn that off. For talk radio, it doesn't matter a lot. But for music, I usually use Rdio app on the phone, set to 320kbps and the sound is...

It was a chore to clean, for sure. I used one of those honeycomb soft scrubbers after doing an initial clean -- did a great job with tar and bugs. Turning car Systems on with passenger present, no driver

Thanks all for the pointers. The "touch the screen" method didn't work, but I have a feeling she hasn't tried it for several firmware iterations, so we'll need to try it again on v6.1.

Turning car Systems on with passenger present, no driver

It happens to me quite often that I get out of the car to run a short errand and my wife stays in the car. I leave her the key, but unless she opens a door slightly, she has no way of turning on the center console to listen to music or adjust the air. Are we missing something? Is there a way for...

    Frunk Dent Prevention Strategy

It appears that some people have tighter fitting hoods than others. If you have a non-tight hood, you will be fine opening and closing it using the normal instructions. If you have a tight fit, you will either need to be comfortable having the crease (even flawlessly executing the perfect frunk...

    Random Model S sightings

Living in the SoCal Tesla bubble, it is not unusual to be cruising along on the freeway surrounded by four other Tesla's or to be unable to charge at the public parking because there are too many Tesla's, so this thread is a bit funny. However, I did a road trip to Kansas in September, and had...

Subtle "clunk" from rear when accelerating from a stop

Well, I received a new drive unit. I didn't get much of a technical explanation as to what was the problem. They also fixed my center console, but I fear they gave me a frunk crease at the same time... ugh Speaking of which, it's time for Tesla to do something about the defective frunks.

Please Stop Me from spending $$$$ on the Exterior

    Frunk Dent (Frustrating...)

The frunk crease is another "not ready for prime-time" Tesla feature, and Tesla deserves whatever ding's Consumer Reports gives them this fall for such issues. I can count on one hand the number of times I have used the frunk, and I've always closed it as instructed, yet I still noticed the...

I was updated to v5.12 this Monday at the service center and have noticed a change not captured on the forum's change log. I was previously on 5.9, so this change may have taken effect with 5.10 or 5.11. Previously when I engaged the AC via the remote app, the car switched off of recycle and...

How do wheel size and setup affect your range?

Folks -- Tesla provides information in the "top 5 question" section of their website comparing range for 19" and 21" wheels (presumably with the Tesla supplied tires). The site states "Range decreases slightly with larger wheels. 21" wheels have more contact with the road and are made of...

I thought so too till recently. From conversations have had with the teams doing the install, it looks like Tesla is using contractors for the Supercharger installs. So it all depends upon who had the best bid for each location.

'Rdio' music streaming service teams with Tesla.

I think you're right that they've moved away from their P2P roots. Hopefully since Rdio is already providing service to European Tesla drivers, doing a US integration with a decent interface should be fairly straightforward for the.

'Rdio' music streaming service teams with Tesla.

Theoretically, Rdio should be an easier implementation because it's web based. Spotify works on a distributed basis and requires an app on the computer. Rdio's album art, clean interface design would be a good match for the 17" interface and general Tesla design. Hopefully North American...

Subtle "clunk" from rear when accelerating from a stop

I have the dreaded clunk in the rear thing going, similar to other reports. It happens on a start and also when switching from gen to regen in the 20-40 mpg range approximately. I'm hoping to get it sorted out at the Van Nuys SC on the 18th, 'cause I'm going to be doing a long drive half way...

California Coastal Route, Doable in an EV?

After picking up my 85 in Freemont, I did a range charge in Gilroy and headed down the coast. I did the 17mi scenic drive plus made a couple of major wrong turns and stopped in at Hearst Castle--in other words, not the most direct route down Highways 1. I made it to Pismo beach with 20 RM to...
