    My outdoor charging box

I'm happy to report that it hasn't burned down. I also did the above after a year or two by replacing the mobile charger with a wall charger. It was a tight fit but was able to get it to fit inside the box. After a year the wall charger had a temperature sensor malfunction so I got to do the...

    Supercharger - Susanville, CA (LIVE 29 Sep 2021, 8 V3 stalls)

Please update if you do. I'll likely be driving through Susanville on the 11th, would be great to have a functioning Supercharger! I checked the car's map this morning and nothing showing up as of today.

Range differences with Pilot Sport All Season 4 or CrossClimate2 vs Primacy MXM4

I’ve only been doing short drives lately so it is hard to tease out any efficiency loss. With the increased grip, cool looking tread and no real noticeable noise increase I’m very happy with the CC2s. Will be a couple weeks until I take a much longer trip to hopefully see any range drops now...

Range differences with Pilot Sport All Season 4 or CrossClimate2 vs Primacy MXM4

Last week I had to change tires during a road trip. For the second time I felt an unbalanced tire and knew the foam was coming loose on the MXM4s. So I had a set of the CrossClimate2 installed (I’m done with foam inserts). On the 570 mile trip out On the MXM4s I averaged 81% efficiency. On the...

    GMC Hummer Debut 2020-10-20

Nothing changes at the cell level. Just the charging infrastructure operates at 800V. Since the infrastructure is amp limited, higher voltage allows more power through it. So charging time can be reduced if you are infrastructure limited with higher voltage, but only up to the point where you...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Tesla is using a die cast for these aluminum sub-frames. Molten aluminum injected into a steel die much like the injection molding used for plastics. SS has too high of a melting temp to use a metallic mold and would need a more conventional sand mold. Even though the Cybertruck body/frame is...

What other tech stock to consider?

A couple weeks ago I took a small position in Zillow (ZG, Z). They are currently moving from a real estate advertisement business model into trying to own the entire real estate transaction. Buy/Sell/Rent/Closing/Mortgage. If you have dealt with a Realtor and see the 5-6% fees they make on...

    Battery Replacement

I'm guessing that it would physically fit and connect. There is a whole long thread about what rear motors have been put in the cars so I'm not sure if it would get a performance boost. Limited Regen. Happens when the battery is cold or at a high State of Charge (>93% maybe?). Sometimes you can get a dashed line on the right side for limited power.

Happens all the time. Battery is constantly trying to calibrate and balance. I'll see large jumps in range after long periods of short commutes (~10% battery) and then a long drive where I drive to below 50% of the battery range. Suddenly the battery reports an extra 10 miles of range.

Regenerative braking hysteresis and/or "energy buffer" (miles don't tick up or down)

It seems like a decent enough method. I only having it polling roughly once per minute. On the charge session today it took 5-7 minutes of charging to add 1% to the battery. It completed the charge on its 5th minute at 80%. So I think the car is charging up to right under the switch to 81% Not...

Regenerative braking hysteresis and/or "energy buffer" (miles don't tick up or down)

Sadly no, been a bit all over the place. Probably has to do with normally only charging to 80% and my commute only uses about 11% of the battery. Different firmware and the occassional long trip make up most of the bumps. My old college town of San Luis Obispo

LR RWD. Perhaps its 780 Wh, .1% of a 78 kWh pack (75 useable) giving 230 Wh/mi and 325 mile range at 75 kWh. (Though I never got the bump from 310 to 325. See attached for the table.

Regenerative braking hysteresis and/or "energy buffer" (miles don't tick up or down)

I believe it does. I live up a small mountain road. Every morning when I leave and if I use very little of the HVAC system I can get to the bottom of my road 3.1 miles later with 0 kWh/mile used. But my battery-guess-O-mileage will have lost a mile, sometimes two.

Regenerative braking hysteresis and/or "energy buffer" (miles don't tick up or down)

Here is a drive with a nice downhill drive from TeslaFi: In the file it shows a jump in range from 221.94 miles to 225.32 miles. It than stays at 225.32 for a long time even while the battery level percentage varies from 72% to 73% and back to 72%. So this file added a 3.38 mile increment, so...
