    Tinting of Model 3

UV does not add much heat, but it does damage skin. Infrared reflection is what is needed. 3M claims their Crystalline films reflect 69% of the solar energy. I was thinking about metalized films but 3M seems to imply that metalized film will actually degrade wifi and cellular connectivity! Right...

A word of warning about Ebay Tesla Gen 3 chargers sold by Discount_xxx. Tesla has confirmed to me that they are defective chargers that have been replaced under warranty, and they are trying to pass them off as reconditioned usable chargers.

    Hot Weather Accessories

I used to have sheepskin seat covers when I lived in AZ. That prevents leg burns and feels less sweaty than vinyl or fake leather. Tinting will keep the heat out in summer and the heat in during winter, so the brochures say. I am actually looking into this, but since you asked the questions, I...

    Phantom braking without self-driving features?

Be careful in TACC mode when you pass the car ahead that has just turned off into a side road. It tagged me for a collision warning and torpedoed my near-perfect safety score. This matters bc it added about $4 to my Tesla insurance premium!

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

NOTE: I am NOT defending the failings of Autopilot. I just read that a lot of people expectations of Autopilot to be close to perfect. Autopilots fail miserably in multimillion dollars airliners, and in Billion dollar Boeing spaceships that have a dedicated team of real-time human monitors. To...

    Phantom braking without self-driving features?

Has your foot on the accelerator, and press it when you feel a slow down. With a little practice, it becomes a no-brainer. That’s what you do to a regular car when you start on a up-hill road.

I don’t disagree with you. Remember to file “Bug reports”. And hope Tesla programmers make updates. Here are a few high lights: 1. On clear freeway left lane with a slight curve to left. It slows abruptly from 55 to 30, then proceeds to stutter along. I let it do this only bc I knew it was clear...

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

I would agree with you that optical illusion can trick Tesla Vision. I have gotten many Sentry alerts where is is clearly a well defined shadow on a wall that has crossed in front of the camera view. It does surprise me that any engineer-minded person would think that vision is all that is...

Resurrecting the zombie False Forward Collision Warning

I am amazed at the collision warnings that I am getting and the undue hesitancy of Autopilot. The one that really bugs me is: During manual drive: When the car ahead of me is turning off to the right into a driveway or road, etc and I get a collision warning. The only way that I could possible...

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

B737Max certification is a fraud, and so far, so is level 3 automation for road cars, be it Mercedes or Tesla. I think I made myself very clear on that in my reply which you appear to have not read when I said, level 3 automation for $15,000 is a dubious claim. The difference is that even...

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

Did you know that you can get ticketed for going the speed limit? Road conditions that make it unacceptable for going the speed limit will get you a ticket! Sounds crazy, but it's true. For example, excess rain, ice, and obstructions like stopped cars on the freeway. Yes, you can be ticketed for...

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

Yes. I get those same problems. Added, when a car ahead has pulled into a driveway or side road, the T3 slows down like it is supposed to but just takes forever to reaccelerate. I get honks, but whatever. These are not phantom brake issues, just overly conservative programming. It also gets...

    Phantom Braking Solved

There are setting for collision risk and following distance that will soften the effects of braking. I think the brakes are just too effective for the car. However, a few more miles and brake use will take the edge out of the new brake pads, and make it better. It's a known fact that new brake...

    Phantom Braking Solved

I do agree with you that the T3 has aged a little. When Tesla said they were going to replace the steering wheel with a yoke, I thought: fighter joystick with multi-function keys, voice command, and HUD or a smart visor. Instead, we got a sad excuse of a toaster waffle for a steering wheel. Even...

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

I find that my T3 does badly on one stretch of road and two junctions. The curve is a one-way two-lane road but parking on the left and right (who designs roads like this!!) I think the T3 freaks out and slows down thinking it is an imminent head-on collision with the parked cars because it does...

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

Phantom braking is over-hyped by people who expect too much and don't pay attention to driving at the best of times. But it does exist, and that's why you need to pay attention to driving. My Prius which has a crash alert and braking does an even worst job; it happily trucks along even though...

Tesla insurance ding me for head braking on autopilot!! It was happy following another car but that car suddenly changed lanes, so my T3 accelerated. Switch to hourly pricing for charging at home

Every penny counts! Luckily for me, our utility has a voluntary program where I elect to only charge my T3 at the low period. It's all automatic. I plug my car in and it only charges when it is off-peak, and I get $30 off my bill per period. I don't have to be on the per-hour plan.

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

So, I started reporting “bug” by voice command to Tesla about some strange designed junctions near me bc the T3 responds inappropriately. I am getting less of them now. May be you could try to report it shortly after it occurs. Thinking if you report it enough times, they may adjust the programming.

I agree with you on both accounts. Hands on sensor on the steering wheel would be better. Rain sensor would be nice too- maybe it matters less on the new higher definition cameras. But camera on face - no, that’s too intrusive. The only time I want camera on face is when it is someone else...

Thanks for the reply. I read up on a related thread that posted a battery discharge curve, and a discussion about the BMS. The book does say to charge it to 100% at least once a month. This would be consistent with the BMS calibration. In the same way, we were advised to fully discharge the...

    LFP to 100% Each Week—Assumptions?

I saw the old 2013 thread, but am looking for an updated consensus on a 2023 SR. Tesla manual says to charge it to 100% at least once a month, and when I set it to 80-90% bc I heard Musk say so the app warns me to charge it to 100% for battery longevity. 🤔

Could charging my vehicle clear this battery fault?

Have tried a hard reboot? That's a power-down button from the control screen inside car. The other interesting comment you made was about only charging it to 80%. Maybe it is battery type difference. My manual says to charge it to 100% at least once a month, AND every time I set it to 80-90%...

Tesla says rock chip broke my top glass, I disagree.

Easy way to show stress in glass. Use a polarizing lens (like your polarised sunglasses). Any stress on the glass will show was swirls or distortions of a different color or shade. It's interesting that you wish AP could predict traffic like a human does. I believe that it does.. like, my Grandma. She freaks out when a semi passes by in the next lane, doesn't slow down until she is almost up the tailpipe of the vehicle ahead then backsaway (because she couldn't see it...
