Hello - I've been sanding non-stop on tail lights in preparation of the test fit with Bonnie. We've been trying to get the perfect finish right out of the mold, but still haven't done it. I prepped the tail lights to an acceptable stage for clear coating. We'll provide updated pics on Wednesday...
Thanks for bringing djp's post to my attention. They'll be mounted with VHB double sided tape; the same way as the MS trunk spoiler. For a more permanent look we can offer a stronger adhesive tape and for a temporary application a less adhesive tape.
As-is the tail lights actually fit pretty...
Habious, the back side of the OEM tail light housing is quite complex. I've included a pic below. To tool the back side and the front, which is already the most complex surface on the outside of the Roadster, would've likely started in the $1500 range produced domestically with a larger minimum...
Sample Update 5/7/2015. The progression is from left to right / worst to best in the picture with three units.
The other pictures are closeups of each unit in one location also showing progression.
They'll fit onto the OEM housing with no tolerance. We found the backside of the OEM housing...
Bonnie, will you be here today Tuesday or next Tuesday?
We're trying to make these self-installation friendly. If you or anyone in the Bay Area would like to see progress of the tail lights in person this week please let me know and I'll arrange for a showing.
Thanks for the kind words DeedWest. I'll send a PM about the carbon fiber hard top.
The finish line is in sight! We're trying to correct bunching around the tighter contours, but even TM couldn't do it. Another sample is in-progress; one of these two will be post-processed and finished...
Jaff, I'll definitely get to the updated tail lights once we finish the carbon fiber project.
The latest sample came out extremely good! There are a few more small traits to be worked out, but everything is going smoothly
at this point.
The rest of the steps we need to address are quite...
Our second prototype has been completed. However, we are still working on perfecting it. I'll be sharing an update in the next few days regarding this 3rd prototype. Thank you for your patience and we're looking forward to sharing the end product with you soon.
Model S Lowering Springs
These springs will lower the vehicle approximately 1" for a sportier look and improved handling. The front springs and rear springs are linear, 10% stiffer than OEM. When the suspension is loaded during aggressive cornering, the springs enter the stiffer portion of...
@jbadger the hood runs $2500. Thanks for posting the pic Sam.
We're still working on the rear spoiler, the first version needs some tweaking. I'll be updating the thread by the end of this week with some good progress on the tail lights. I'm excited to say the least.
Hi TMC,
I just wanted to give an update on the ETA of the tail lights. I've included my original post from 2/25:
"CF Tail Light production outline:
- We're set to start production on Wednesday 3/4
- Creating the molds should be another 2-3 weeks
- The last week of March/first week of April...
You're all close with the X6 comparisons, but it's not what the Model X is based on. Take a look at a BMW 5-Series GT and then look at the Model X...same thing! Look at the window lines and the rear glass. Elon's not fooling me.

Hellcat ordering suspended
It looks like Mopar is picking up the slack for FCA
According to reliable source oh2o, customers can no longer order the Hellcat Challenger or Charger, so that the factory can catch up on current orders.
The lines are expected to re-open — in August. If production...
This morning's production: Modifying the 3D model for our production part in Rhino 3D. 5 axis milling is next! We're getting close and are trying to keep the Thursday deadline for test-fitting.
@m0rph, my apologies I'll correct your name on the updated list. I'll italicize the names that are...
We're up next for milling the tail light housing mold. We should be done by tomorrow morning or sooner. I'll update with pics of our progress.
I'll follow-up with a eSque vs. True Sport request list/poll.
Felix,
We'd like input on which style TMC prefers. This helps us focus our R&D when we know exactly what we're building. I'd also like to ask, how soon would you like to see the tail light redesign?
Producing a completely new tail light entails (pun maybe) a large scope of work. Depending on...
Thanks bonnie. Your install is on us! What price range is fair for the tail light redesign? This is considering an initial production run of 20 sets. Once we agree on retail pricing we'll have a better idea of what to quote for delivery time and installation.
Could everyone kindly let us know...

My apologies felixtb, I'll send it right now. PM sent!
We anticipate having enough lighting power for the redesign to be legal.
3-D scans are in.
Thanks all for your kind words.
bonnie, we're starting a design closer to the Model S tail lights. I'll update as soon as it's finished.
We're scheduled for test fitting next Thursday the first set of carbon fiber tail lights. With correct fitment, we'll deliver the first 20 sets by the end of...
Thanks bonnie. A LA TMC member has reached out to us for test fitting. I'll definitely be in contact if we need further assistance.
ibcs, we're some time away considering we still need to come up with a redesign that everyone wants. I'll make sure you're included.
I spoke with our fabricator...
19" HRE FF01 Wheels
Long a market leader in forged wheels, HRE now offers its FlowForm line of wheels for the Tesla Model S in 19". Does this style look familiar? It's based on the forged P40, originally designed by HRE nearly 15 years ago.
HRE FlowFlorm wheels are manufactured TUV...
We've received our order of carbon fiber to produce the first 20 tail light sets. The foam for the 5-axis milling is scheduled to arrive by tomorrow. As soon as it arrives the next step is 3-D scanning the core and milling the mold from foam.
Our designer is working on an updated tail light for...
