Will Gen III mean more supercharging? Good for battery?

As i have understood from this lecture it is not really high capacity charging Professor Jeff Dahn - WIN Seminar Series - YouTube but rather charging slowly at elevated temperatures what degrades battery life more. What makes sense because higher T means more molecular movement, thus undesired...

How long will the battery last if cabin light is left on?

This thread wasnt about making people worried. Just a fun assumption. GLorifying the great holy battery BEVs carry on bord. :) By the way the Model S 'could' carry around a big refrigerator. Here in Europe an refrigerator energy efficiency class A+++(now we have laws for that :) ) with 100 l...

How long will the battery last if cabin light is left on?

No, i was just amazed by this thought. No intend to make Tesla bad or so. OMG, no. I mean you are now carrying basically a super awesome MEga battery with you. Now you can cook coffee or what else......anything. What a pity that the Model S doesnt have a 230V outlet. LOL ALso i like the fact...

The Atlantic:The Organic Battery From Japan That Could Spawn The Next Tesla

There needs to be done sth about the weight. Cars are ridiculously heavy for what their purpose is. Driving and Safety. Even the i3 with his carbon fibre chassis isnt really an improvement(1250kg). My Seat Ibiza with 1100 kg weighs less. Even though it has a heavy...

How long will the battery last if cabin light is left on?

You see ICE cars often cant start because you have left cabin light on all the night. Now i have wondered how long a Model S can provide energy to it If the cabin light is a 3W LED then boy...... you can do the calculation yourself. Self discharging probably will be faster. haha

Will Gen III mean more supercharging? Good for battery?

Dont get me all wrong here. I just didnt knew that TM uses highly customized electrodes. Yeah, you probably wont ever know the cycle life time of any BEV maker. lol Though Smart EV uses german Li_tec batteries from which i know the cycles already 3 years ago. And they are pretty darn good! 3000...

Will Gen III mean more supercharging? Good for battery?

ah, i see. So those are special automotive cells. I somehow misconcluded that Model s uses those ones in the pdf file. Would be great if they would publish a cycle diagramm. What is the longest mileage one has driven in a Model S so far? And what is his cap loss?

ah, from where do you know which batteries they use? source?

Will Gen III mean more supercharging? Good for battery?

Tesla is doing good things right now. No doubt. But. With TEsla Model 'e' more and more folks are going to buy an BEV, but not everyone will have a garage like Model S users today. That means they have to go charging at a Supercharger every week. Thus, that means they will charge the vehicle at...

Should Model S have a solar panel?

BEVs need to get lighter in general. I think for the future it would be possible by using more CFk that a car like a golf could weigh 500kg. i hope that with the advent of the EC manufacturers will make cars lighter again. Concentrating more on driving properties. Here a first good example for...

Should Model S have a solar panel?

you might have missed that i talked about future BEVs and PV technologies. Assuming what if......then...... what could be...... Reading carefully is equally important. It wasnt my intention to piss people off. Sorry about that.

Should Model S have a solar panel?

Did i mention somewhere Model S? Guys you have no fantasy. You almost sound like ICE-heads. NO NO NO. AAAAAAAAAH!

Should Model S have a solar panel?

If i could provide 2KW of PV on my car (50%efficiency,4m²) and i let it stand for 10h in the full bright sun and my car weighs only a ton i could drive 200kms(10kwh/100km)! I could travel whereever i want to without depending on a plug for the life of the battery/PV. I could make an awesome...

Should Model S have a solar panel?

HEy you BEV freaks. Just wanted to share my new thoughts on solar PV for BEV in future. Since on a BEV you have only 4m² of surface the best PV panels to put onto it woud be multi-jnuction solar cells in combination ultrathin meta-material lenses for concentrated PV Only flaw i s PV cell use...

Should Model S have a solar panel?

I calculated for Germany. Assuming you drive 60km/day. Charging your car every weekend 2 full sun periods a 5kw peak PV could supply you for 6 months in the middle of the year 100%, but 50% the other darker months. 75% in total assuming you charge it every weekend ofr the whole sunlight period...

What is Tesla Motors' biggest flaw/challenge?

ok.,ok., my understanding of the word flaw was a bit blurry. Maybe pluggin a DC/AC 1200W voltage converter to 12V outlet would be the alternative.
  21. K

What is Tesla Motors' biggest flaw/challenge?

Another flaw. You cant feed current back into your house net. :scared: Say if i charged my battery with solar power i would want to use my own power. It would be very convenient in general to have a 230V socket in the car to use a hair dryer, drill, coffe machine. IN vacations or for whatever.
  22. K

Should Model S have a solar panel?

Apropos Solar Panels. Anyone here who charges his Tesla on the week ends with his own solar power? I have calculated that u could sustain 75% of your annual commute this way(for Germany,5kw peak).
  23. K

What is Tesla Motors' biggest flaw/challenge?

@JRP3 : Which battery pack is that? CAp loss? Interesting data.....
  24. K

What is Tesla Motors' biggest flaw/challenge?

that is actually a great idea. As weight is not important for stationary grid applications could be a perfect second usage fit. Dont know exactly what u mean by your calculations, but the idea is great! You mean with reformat recycling?

What is Tesla Motors' biggest flaw/challenge?

Battery lifetime is the biggest flaw IMO. That is the main reason why people are so unsure about BEVs. They fear to buy every 5 years a new battery for a huge amount of money. Tesla fans of course not. But the overall population thinks like that and also other car manufacturers. That Tesla...

What is Tesla Motors' biggest flaw/challenge?

the cool thing about an EV battery could be that lets say after 25 years when it has only 20-40 % of its capacity left you could use it in your house as a solar energy back up. 20kwh sounds like a solid backup.
  27. K

    BMW i3

BMW i3 is a joke. I think they only repurposed it to an BEV to test their new carbonfiber manufacturing line. and needed some big income, so a BEV was the perfect justification.

What is Tesla Motors' biggest flaw/challenge?

http://www.plugincars.com/tesla-roadster-battery-life-study-85-percent-after-100000-miles-127733.html 6 years now. Very promising and 100,000 miles is over average. Normally you drive that in 10 years. Simply buying a new one sounds not that easy as it maybe. Think of the GIgafactory. 5 billion...
  29. K

What is Tesla Motors' biggest flaw/challenge?

That battery capacity after 15 years will be at 50% or so. Like only 200km left, which now a BMW i3 has to offer.

    Wireless/inductive charging

Tesla can't do everything for now(sounds right). Those start-ups and Ev makers will come closer and closer every year and also cities will need to make some conversations.

    Wireless/inductive charging

@green1 Those kind of things already exist. Look. And again its called inductive charging. Just imagine such a moving cradle underneath your car(in x,y,z direction) that closes the gap to zero. Same as wiring only automatic. like a very tiny crane moving underneath your car, sensing...

    Pure BEV Dogma

if tesla would build a range extended ecar they would build in a 100kg 24kwh battery and a 30kg rotary engine generator. :)

Ask chinese manufacturers , not me. Tesla Model S uses already wireless charging. Watson.? What is regenerative breaking?

    Wireless/inductive charging

charging a cell phone sth different as with e-cars. For a cell phone manufactures doesnt take it as serious as with e-cars of course. They dont have to take many responsibility for 20 dollar accessory. Electromagnetic induction works always. Its a law of nature and from where we get our whole...

    Wireless/inductive charging

Why are you so against it? Where went the spirit for innovation? By the way , i admire you for charging your e-car with water power.
  40. K

    Wireless/inductive charging

Well you already have 2kw electromagnetic induction in every household. :scared: Watson.? What is the induction stove?
  41. K

    Wireless/inductive charging

plugging a cable in is certainly not a problem. But why not have a bit more convenience? Doesnt hurt more. Now where things are beginning to change why not do it complete. Also wireless chargers could be a big attractor for the nay sayers. E-cars could become even more interesting.
  42. K

    Wireless/inductive charging

yeah.....we see the horizon...but we dont know how to get there.
  43. K

Should Model S have a solar panel?

Not yet. In 20 years all e-cars will have i am sure. Those will be low cost perovskit flexible panels. 30% conversion rate. like 1,3kw peak on the whole surface. E-cars will weigh only 800 kgs. thus need less energy. Though in cities with big buildings it will be still diffiuclt. A luxury but...

GEN III - When will we see the first prototype

I bet Tesla will set the bar another time much higher with model e. Will be difficult for other manufacturers to bet them. haha I expect a model that will be much lighter like 1300kg and another time much safer. The space for improvement with an e-car is huge. New land.

Gen III Range & Pricing Speculation

Or Samsung and LG? Smartphone business is going to decrease very rapidly with the advent of virtual reality i tell you.
  46. K

    Pure BEV Dogma

i at first was a proponent of range extenders. I thought that was Tesla is doing is a bit risky. But now i know the thermal engineering behind it and that they use 240wh/kg instead of 140wh like others. Tesla is the pure awesomeness!

    Regenerative Shock Absorbers for EVs

Actually i think this is a great idea. I am a cyclist and every wave in the floor significantly reduces my forward force. Would love to have that in my racing bicycle. haha It reduces my speed to about 5% i would say. You could design those things very light. tiny linear generator or so. But i...

    Knight Industries Tesla S 2000

Why don't other car manufacturers use Panasonic high cap batteries?

ok. lets say 300kg tesla cells with 75kwh(i think Tesla calculated with 70kwh for the gigafab) i calculate 27kg then. Maybe they took the steel shells of the cells into account. Then it could be right or they estimate progress in the fabrication of the fcells.
