    Geocaching in a Model S?

Great thread - I didn't realize until today that you could enter Lat/Long coords into the Tesla Nav, very cool - be handy for getting to the parking areas! Just for kicks, I'll let you in on a cache I'm working on, since few of you will probably be caching up here in northern Minnesota. It will...

    Charging Basics?

I have a followup question on this - I just got my CHAdeMO and have not used it yet, but plan to this weekend out of town. Does it help to ratchet your charging amps down to prevent overheating? That might defeat the purpose of a fast charger, but perhaps there's a happy medium at some amp...

    range penalty from fast starts?

+1 I think I have a pretty normal Tesla acceleration off the light, but am surprised how quickly those cars behind me get really tiny :)

OEM 19's vs Rial Lugano 19's for winter rims???

Those are gunmetal, they are a little darker than I thought they'd be. My rationale for getting new rims with the missus was that it's better for the tires to not be switching rims (think I read that here), so I'm gonna have to go back to the OEMs in a couple weeks. The car is silver.

OEM 19's vs Rial Lugano 19's for winter rims???

Here's a picture from this morning, downtown Duluth. I bought Rials with compatible sensors and X-Ice snow tires from Tirerack - came all assembled so I just had to have them put on. I love bad-ass look of the rims, now I don't want to take them off to go back to the OEMs and summer tires! No...

    Dumb CHADEMO charger question....

Hey Scothawk, I remember that we ordered and got our cars just about the same time - when did you order your CHAdeMO adapter and how long did it take to get it? I got on the waitlist a couple weeks ago and got an email reply "Thanks for your order, we have no idea how long this will take" (not...

Yes, I do that all the time. Power comes on at 11:30, charging starts 11:35, works great.

    Higher energy usage in winter?

I've had my "Low Tire Pressure" warning wink on and off a few times since it's gotten cold - they are at 42 warm, I'll get them up to 45. I've also seen "Regenerative Braking Disabled" a lot lately.

    Remote start to warm battery?

Would plugging into 110V help to warm the battery? (after full charge received). My 220 is only active between 11 PM and 7 AM, but I could plug into a regular outlet, wondering if that would help.

    A most unfortunate event :-(

Just adding to this community's wishes for a speedy recovery - your Tesla did what it had to do to protect you and your family. Best wishes - and think up a good new Username! Also, I'm quite happy with textile seats, they are quite comfy and seem like they will wear well . Good luck!

Is the Tesla wave / chin hello dead?

As far as I know, there's only two of us in northeastern Minnesota, and the chances of us passing on the road are pretty slim. But lots of other people wave at me and I wave back, all good here.

Need to decide: Silver or Gray?

These are great posts, thanks! I actually have a couple silver cars, one which is rather famous around these parts – Ghost X, which is a 2000 (1st model year) MDX, also known as the Death Star. And when I ordered the Tesla, silver was a natural choice, as I have a mile of dirt road to deal...

Need to decide: Silver or Gray?

An update on this - got this email from Tesla: "It is too late to make changes to this Model S. Please inform the customer that we cannot change the paint to Grey Metallic." Oddly, by profile still says "sourcing parts", but I guess you can't cut it too close. But decided, yes, I can live...

Need to decide: Silver or Gray?

Didn't mention that I have two other cars - a Starlight Silver Acura MDX (2001 1st model year, 262,000 miles, still really pretty), and an average silver Forester. Yes, time for something different.

Yup, it will be even moreso after I mount that giant fin on the roof! It will move back and forth with the pano :)

Need to decide: Silver or Gray?

Blue is awesome. I walked out of a restaurant in Madison last weekend, and there in the dark was a blue Tesla with the license plate "Disrupt". Sent chills down my spine.

Need to decide: Silver or Gray?

Gray it is! Or maybe it is - I called my DS today and asked her about changing the color, she's checking into it but I haven't heard back yet. Gray was our original choice, but I switched to silver on Confirm day, been kinda going back and forth ever since... But gray just kind of has that...

Need to decide: Silver or Gray?

So I have a silver on order, but was originally thinking about gray, and now am back to considering gray. The pictures I see show a wide range of colors, and it changes by model. For those of you that actually have these, can you give me a sense of How light is the silver? How dark is the gray...

    Color and paint job?

Hey let's continue this thread - I'm in the same position - I have a silver on order, but thinking seriously about gray. How light is the silver? How dark is the gray? In the photos I've seen, the silver looks pretty light, leading to a sharp contrast with the black pano roof and nose cone. I...

    Cash vs Financing

Hi all, I'm wondering about the groups opinions - I can pay cash or I can finance the car. I've never financed a car, I've always managed to save foward, and thanks to a decent stock market (thank you TSLA), I could pay it off up front. (woot!). But what are people's thoughts - there's an...

Do I need air suspension because of my driveway?

I posed this question in a couple forums, asking about the dirt roads and the steep hills around Duluth, and the answers were strongly in favor of getting the air suspension. I ended up adding it as an option and think it was a good decision. You'd be sad to hear your Tesla scraping on a curb!

    Outdoor charging

I just found this and am thinking it may work in my somewhat leaky garage, you might want to have a look at it, $36 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009R5JRS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2FCCUMSY5K60O&coliid=IP0IB0EIGLPUK

I am a test case for our power company

Well, I pay for wiring my garage whether or not I get a discount on electricity, so any savings is pure profit. But I get your point that it is not laughing-all-the-way-to-the-bank profit, maybe a free pint of IPA every couple weeks. Along those lines, I've been shopping for hardware and found...
  43. ghost640

I am a test case for our power company

Going to 4.6 from ~7 cents is 35% difference, that will be a decent discount over time. I'll pick up the cost of the wiring (just like everyone else), and the power company will need to hang another control box, probably not at great cost to them. We'll see how it plays out.
  44. ghost640

I am a test case for our power company

Ya, but we pay for it wit da heating then. And LCP finds all kinds of fixed costs to tack on, ya know.

Anybody use Aluminum wire to their NEMA 14-50 outlet?

Can I ask a sort-of related noob question - what's the difference between 14-50 and 14-50R? I just went to the hardware store to buy one - my Tesla pamphlet says 14-50 but the store just had the 14-50R.
  46. ghost640

I am a test case for our power company

Our regular rates vary from 6 to 8 cents per kWh depending on the season. Off peak is 4.6 cents, so a pretty good savings. Dual fuel is 5.7 cents per kWh, but then the charging would stop at random intervals when they decide to shut the power off, that seems like a bad idea...

I am a test case for our power company

Here's something interesting - I called Lake Country Power, our rural electric cooperative to ask about charging my Telsa on off-peak power - basically 11 PM to 6-7 AM at reduced rates. It turns out they've been discussing what to do about this, but I'm the 1st person to actually request this...

    Still sourcing parts??

Hey I have to follow up on this - I emailed MSP today, asking about the ranger service, and casually about how long the "sourcing parts" notice will be on my Tesla page. Got the answer right away: "...till 5/26, with your brand new Tesla available for pickup around the 6th of June". What a...

    Still sourcing parts??

Thanks Pilot_51, and yes Lerxt it is - but 4+ months is a very long time, I don't envy your wait. On the other hand, look how long it took to invent a car like the Tesla, we're still lucky to be on this part of the curve. :)
