Small dent: Can’t un-see this now!

Thank you - I am learning from you and another reply that a new panel isn't a great idea. Now that I understand the explanation I think I agree. Especially if their are paint-free dent repair options. I don't even need this to be perfect, but if they can reduce the visibility of the problem...

Small dent: Can’t un-see this now!

Thanks you. This is a totally new area for me so I have no experience with little dents. It's protruding slightly not an inwards dent.

Small dent: Can’t un-see this now!

I just got home from my scheduled Model Y delivery. The car is awesome. But I now see a very small dent in the panel right behind the headlight. It’s small, but it’s SUPER obvious in light and I can’t un-see this. I hate to be that guy, but this should not be considered acceptable. What have...

Wiki Links to Canadian For Sale Threads

Here is the listing I’ve just posted, Doug. Thank you for doing this for Canadian sellers. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/2014-model-s-85-with-new-battery-and-new-drive-unit-48k-canadian.279100/

2014 Model S 85 with NEW battery and NEW drive unit $48k Canadian

Selling in Ontario, Canada (Durham region) This beautiful, low-mileage 2014 Tesla Model S85 drives like the day I brought it home. NEW BATTERY AND MOTOR. Tesla replaced both my drive unit (motor) and my 85 kWh battery pack under warranty in early 2022. This is an awesome benefit for you. The...

Electrical warnings - Car Won’t Start

They replaced the drive unit under warranty. Apparently some kind of cover on the unit was cracked, and moisture got in and caused corrosion. $12k part. No charge. 2 months later same warning. Turns out it was the battery control module in the battery. They wrecked the seal on my battery...

    Privately Selling a Vehicle Advice

I'm in the exact same situation. Last car I sold was about $6k, and was 13 years old. Now I'm selling a Model S that I figure is worth closer to $50k Canadian and I have no clue what the process should look like. I figure it either has to be a certified cheque, or more safe than this, a wire...

How to best sell Model Y privately in Ontario

I appreciate this thread, since I'm taking delivery of a new Model Y next week and have to sell my 2014 Model S 85. I have no idea where to find out fair pricing. There are not too many for sale, and the specs are all so different it's hard to do that intuitive multivariate analysis to figure...

2014 Model S - Continued high voltage problems

Another update: Tesla had ordered a new circuit board for the battery management system (BMS), which is inside the battery. They suspected corrosion on the existing board due to the battery failing the soap bubble leak test. I guess they opened up my battery and destroyed the seal, and so they...

2014 Model S - Continued high voltage problems

Brief update here. It looks like I really did have 3 separate issues triggering HVIL warnings. The first time the cover to the drive unit was cracked, and water had been getting in, causing corrosion. That's why they gave me a new drive unit. Full warranty coverage. The second time they...

2014 Model S - Continued high voltage problems

Quick update: The alerts cleared temporarily so I could drive the car to the service center. While driving the alerts came back 3-4 times and cleared briefly each time. Definitely another intermittent issue

High Voltage Interlock Loop (HVIL) Issue - Questions

That makes it very clear! Thank you. I didn’t know this.

2014 Model S - Continued high voltage problems

Ok, I don’t exactly know how to test the battery but I pulled my nosecone and threw a multimeter on the battery terminals. I’m getting 12.7VDC. That seems normal, right?
  14. F

2014 Model S - Continued high voltage problems

Would a 12V battery issue trigger HVIL warnings, though? I'm not debating, I'm just asking, as I currently don't understand how that makes sense, but I'm not en electrical engineer so I may just lack some knowledge here.

High Voltage Interlock Loop (HVIL) Issue - Questions

I'm dealing with the same problem now. 3rd time in 3 months. First Tesla diagnosed it as a drive unit problem, second time (about 8 weeks later) a bad connector pin, and this time who knows. I can't drive it yet. Intermittent, though, so hopefully I will be able to start it soon. This can't...

2014 Model S - Continued high voltage problems

Hey gang, I’m wondering if you can chime in on this. Normal? Acceptable? What can I do to communicate my expectations to Tesla service? The issue: Since late November my Model S has refused to start 3 times now. Each time I got a “needs service” message, and I had to take the car in, have...

Electrical warnings - Car Won’t Start

Well guys - here’s a brief update so far. Not much of an update, but hopefully getting to a solution. I dropped off my car at the Tesla Lawrence/Railside (Toronto) service centre on Sunday afternoon, knowing they could then begin diagnosis on Monday morning. They were very prompt with getting...

Electrical warnings - Car Won’t Start

I considered this for sure. I even have a 12V booster that I was going to use in case that was the issue. But I'm getting no 12v warnings, and I had the battery replaced by Tesla within the last 2 years, so I do not think this is the issue. Last time I had a similar issue (intermittent shut...

Electrical warnings - Car Won’t Start

Probably not. I've had this car for 7.5 years and followed Tesla for about the same amount of time. I've never seen anyone have an issue getting these kinds of warnings with 20% on the battery. But I'm trying to charge it just so it doesn't brick on me if it sits in the cold for a few days.

Electrical warnings - Car Won’t Start

Hey fellow Model S owners, I’m having a strange problem. I’ve had a series of electrical system warnings show up, and the car would power up (displays, etc) but it would not go into gear to drive. The warnings were as follows in reverse chronological order (most recent at top) GTW_w018...

    Model 3 specific Jack Pad

Why do I need to use a jack pad at all? I’m talking about using a low profile jack with a flat saddle, so there is no difference between the shape of the surface of a pad vs no pad. The jack itself pushes right on the correct spot. I see no value in the pad.

    Bizarre System Power Failure

One more piece of evidence I just thought of: The other night (one or two days before the power shutdown incident), my car failed to install a software update that was available. I have never had a s/w update fail before. I just read a thread about how this update is gated by the 12V system - if...

    Bizarre System Power Failure

Yeah I was thinking the same, but I’d been driving all over with no 12V warnings and then just BOOM, out of the blue car won’t start .... and 2 hours later it’s fine again. Really weird. Hard to explain. I’ll report back when Tesla diagnoses this.

    Bizarre System Power Failure

My model year 2014 Model S just had a weird failure today. I dropped my kid off at school and went to the gym as usual. I returned to the car after my workout, but the screens were blank, and I thought it was just one of those occasional system reboots that happen to us all. No big deal right...

    Model 3 doors/windows/mirrors + Ice = trouble

Always have your Tim Hortons coffee card ready. Because it’s more Canadian than a credit card. But seriously... just swipe the card between the glass and the seal and the ice will break free from the glass. Easy.

Tesla Winter Tire Package - Lead-time?

Update: the Tire Guys did a great job meeting me at a retail parking lot in the service area early in the morning and had my tires done in 20 minutes. Very good service in the end, despite the major communication problems up front.

Tesla Winter Tire Package - Lead-time?

I would proceed this way: 1) Email Tesla to request refund and warn them that I’d issue a credit card dispute if not resolved in 72 hours 2) proceed with dispute if no action is taken. Thankfully Andre from the Tire Guys just called me today. He sounds very tired ... I’m sure they are...

Tesla Winter Tire Package - Lead-time?

I ordered online and Tesla was fast to confirm and call me back telling me “The Tire Guys” are the outsourced partner for installation. I got one email from them with vague info about how to schedule. I tied to schedule and had problems. I called them numerous times and they have not returned...

My Mostly Great AWD Model 3 Delivery Experience

Today I picked up our new Obsidian Metallic Black AWD Model 3. No other options (no AP, no fancy wheels, just the paint upgrade and AWD). Overall AWESOME. Here are a few notes of things we noticed. There are still a few quality control issues Tesla needs to improve. We had these minor...

AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

I ordered Obsidian metallic black. Standard wheels and black interior. Others have been getting the same colour as me so I think Tesla basically screwed up on their promise to prioritize owners. I'm pretty annoyed at them. Horrible system.

AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

Website shows a Oct 16 delivery appointment now, VIN had disappeared and is now back with no change. No idea if this will actually happen this time.

3-month waiting anniversary and no end in sight. Anybody else like this?

Are you an early reservation holder and/or current Tesla owner? For comparison I ordered basically the same car as you, but in obsidian metallic black, and I ordered on June 30. I am a day one reservation holder from 2016 and a current Tesla model S owner. My car is not in my hands yet but is...

AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

Hey folks - Can I ask those of you who are near Toronto and have an AWD Model 3 to chime in please? My car was initially scheduled for Sept 26 and keeps getting pushed back. AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

Those of you picking up AWD non-performance cars, are you all previous owners with early reservations? I’m curious. I have an order for Obsidian Black AWD aero wheels. I have a VIN and originally got an email from “Mandy McBride” in Fremont for a Sept 26 delivery. Then a guy named PK in...

AWD to be about 6500 cdn plus tax

Same here - I get a basic text screen telling me that the car is being prioritized to US and employees (same as what happened with RWD). Maybe this isn't coming to Canada as fast as we hoped?

Rear door handle intermittently quits and service center unhelpful. Should I try another?

Hey - is this resolved? I'm having the same problem. Door handle doesn't present and the window also doesn't work. The window DOES lower and raise the small inch or so when you open / close it ... but the switches don't do anything. My door handle has presented TWICE and only twice since I...

    Supercharger - Mt. Hope, WV

Thanks again for the great info, @Darren Schilberg and @1101011. I'm starting in Port Perry, so just northeast of Toronto. We leave pretty early in the morning and take the express highway 407 all the way to the end, cross the Peace Bridge into the USA, skirt around the inside of Buffalo and...

    Supercharger - Mt. Hope, WV

Wow @Darren Schilberg THANK YOU for such an awesome detailed reply. I'm actually looking at the supercharger map now and it seems maybe the best way to go this route is to continue west past Erie all the way to Cleveland. So instead of: Erie --> Franklin Park --> Weston --> Wytheville (428...

    Supercharger - Mt. Hope, WV

Really hoping this station gets turned on SOON. March Break trip happening again this year, and we're taking the S85 to Hilton Head Island from Ontario. The segment from Weston to Wytheville is longer than I want to do given variables of temperature, wind and rain. It looks like a few people...

    Articles/megaposts by DaveT

@DaveT I'm so thrilled to read your review of the test drive and to hear that you're finally taking delivery (or probably have by now, and are too busy driving it to be posting here). I love reading your posts, and I too invested in the stock after learning about the Model S and researching...

Discussion of New Platform for Model Y

Just reading all the replies here ... and I think @jbcarioca brings up a good point about the supply chain for 12V components. Tesla hasn't been large enough, until recently, to swing its weight around. Once they prove themselves with a Model 3 ramp, if they call up a supplier and say "Hey, we...

Discussion of New Platform for Model Y

This is not a legitimate explanation for a new platform. It would be much easier to scale component production versus design new components. I think they'd need a new manufacturing line regardless simply because Model 3 volume is expected to be 500k per year, and I don't think it's common to...

Discussion of New Platform for Model Y

Hey gang. So last night on the Tesla Q1 F2017 conference call Elon said that there would be a "step change" in manufacturing efficiency when the Model Y comes out. For context, and for those who haven't heard the call yet, this was brought up during a discussion of Model 3. Elon and JB were...

Supercharger Options -Toronto to South Carolina

We're driving past DC to stay at Glen Allen VA (usually be book an Express Deal hotel via Priceline the day before we leave). We leave well before rush hour so no Richmond VA traffic, and from there it's a good day of driving to Hilton Head Island. Likely a 3pm arrival. But it's actually...

Extended Warranty worth it for my 2014 Model S 85?

I read somewhere that they're now doing glass replacement on the screen, rather than replacing the whole screen. Much less expensive. Anyone know? How common is this screen bubbling issue?
  48. F

Extended Warranty worth it for my 2014 Model S 85?

I'm thinking the same as you guys, RAM_Eh and mrElbe. I'll blow through a 4 year extended warranty in about 2.5 years, which is a LOT to spend in such a little period of time especially when there is a deductible on any issues. Thanks for the feedback so far.

Extended Warranty worth it for my 2014 Model S 85?

Hey folks, I just rolled over 80,000 last week so I'm out of warranty. I leave on a road trip Tuesday, so I have until then to decide on the extended warranty (because you can't buy it after rolling past 81,600 km). It's expensive! $5700 for another 80,000 coverage (that's less than 3 years...

Supercharger Options -Toronto to South Carolina

This is exactly what a local friend advised me. Looking at our travel plan I think it's gonna be REALLY close, so I'm going to skip this route and go through Strasburg instead. It's actually a tiny bit less distance (but probably slower roads). I feel better knowing that non-urban roads will...
