Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

That’s a pretty nefarious ”goodwill” offer. I don’t remember hearing about that. Can you imagine the international outcry that would happen if Tesla ever tried something similar? it would be front page news on every major media publication, politicians would be calling for investigations etc.

Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

What are these “MSRP laws”? Serious question. Dealers fight any sort of proposal for consumer protections that would help prevent price gouging and require them to act honestly and fairly. Their goal is to ensure they can price a car however they like, regardless of the MSRP and regardless of...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Yes I have 4,000 miles now, with probably 60% of those on standard autopilot. Haven’t had any phantom braking yet. Roads around here are terrible in general- patchy (from pothole filling), uneven with varying shades/textures, trees giving inconsistent lighting, really work lane markings, and...

    Tesla 2022 Model 3 Tires

I agree that Hankook makes some great tires. Maybe they could have been considered a lower tier manufacturer 15-20 years ago but definitely not now. Having said that this Hankook does not seem that great based on reviews. The Michelin is also far from best in class though.

Car is doesn't know which way it is pointed

I had something similar happen on a BMW a few years back. They replaced the “navigation unit”… basically the computer that runs the nav system. Could be a computer hardware issue. It sounds like you haven’t always had this problem based on your first post. did you try hard reset (foot on...

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

Hands-free towing really scares me. There is a lot that can go irreversibly bad very quickly when towing. I’m pretty surprised GM allows it to be activated.

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

True. Consumer Reports will experiment and put together a “how to” guide for fooling the camera.

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

Good point. I drove the HOV lane (no physical barriers) on the Long Island Expressway about 60 mi total last weekend and I must have had 20 cars cross the double line to pull into the lane in front of me. I don’t know if HOV lane entry and exit ever gets enforced there.

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

Isn’t Supercruise basically enhanced autopilot but with eye monitoring instead of steering wheel torque? I really hope Tesla starts using the interior camera to remove the steering wheel jerk requirement. If so I would seriously consider the $6k enhanced autopilot. Really not interested in City...

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

I would agree with all of this. Other thing thing to keep in mind is that pay for good software engineers is very good. Even considering crazy Bay Area cost of living it’s entirely feasible if you live sensibly to work 10 years out of school and be in a position, especially with stock options...

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

To be fair Steve Jobs was known to be a very harsh leader. He was visionary and had a knack of inspiring people to do things that others considered impossible, which was why people were there, but he was not easy to work with and working under him would have been no 9-5. I really don’t know...

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

They said they would have FSD safer than a human driver at end of year. The FSD Beta agreement notes “The currently enabled features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous. The activation and use of these features are dependent on achieving reliability far in...

How are you driving less safely? Tesla insurance isn’t available in my state yet but it’s something I plan to look into once it is.

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

No photo for me, but I picked up the day before you… same spec and was even in the same parking space #8 waiting for me! Pickup went smoothly. The weather was iffy but thankfully rain held off until about 10 minutes after leaving when it became absolutely torrential. 6 miles on the car and...

The LR does not have LFP batteries. The SR+ does and per Tesla can be regularly charged to 100%.

Not totally sure what constitutes “sales” but I notice that of the 8 Tesla locations, 5 have a “service component”. I guess the other 3 are just considered “galleries”. https://www.tesla.com/findus/list/stores/United+States

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

NYS limits Tesla to no more than 5 direct to consumer sales locations in the state. Thank the politicians who happily take car dealership syndicate’s bribe money.

I got a text last night that car is at the delivery center and an earlier pickup would be available. Can’t really make it earlier though so sticking to my scheduled date this Saturday.

TESLA FACTORY FRIDAY 4:20pm Random worker: hey boss, found another box of those old lights in that coat closet. We should set them aside for parts & service spares right? Manager: nah, just throw them on these cars that are coming out of the paint shop now.

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

That’s a bummer! Hope they find you another VIN soon. Based on the build date it seems like at least one other person had already seen and rejected the car before you. Wonder if Tesla is just going to keep trying until someone accepts it !?

Looks great! Maybe a silly question but did the have permanent plates ready, and if so did they install the front plate?

Yes the Hankook Kinergy GTs don’t seem to be the best around. Maybe a batch happened to fall off the back of a Mavis truck as it was passing the Fremont factory :)

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Looks like you got the VIP treatment! I’m expecting to be searching a parking lot full of white and grey Model 3s in the rain along with the rest of the common folk :)

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Pet peeve- why does everyone miscount the # of days in delivery windows? I.e a “4 day” window that actually covers 5 calendar days or a “3 day” window that spans 4 calendar days? :) 😜

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

I haven’t heard anything about any Shanghai built model 3s not coming with the matrix lights. But on the other hand it definitely seems like the vast majority of posters here are in the US and Canada so it might be possible. Overall it seems like Fremont was not getting enough matrix lights to...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

I’ll definitely do DIY ceramic coating. Have never had PPF on a car before. I am a little worried about how vulnerable the front of the bumper will be to stone chips. Watched a couple DIY bumper PPF videos - looks pretty challenging but would save a lot. I ended up buying mud flaps

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

I honestly don’t see resale values of these cars being affected at all. 99% of the population has no idea about headlights beyond perhaps knowing that LED is the “best” and most modern type. Tesla never advertised the car as being specced with matrix lights and it won’t show up on the Monroney...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

unfortunately for everyone in Japan the Yen has dropped significantly against both the USD and the Yuan since beginning of March. It looks like you are being hit with increases because of that on top of Tesla’s “inflation” increases.
  38. R

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Only thing is they never advertised the car as coming with matrix headlights, just “LED” headlights so there was no bait. The 2 types of headlights have same NHTSA rating. If you got a car with sealed beam halogens, sure. If you were to take them to court for installing a different type of LED...

Remember the good old days buying a car and having to deal with the dealership finance guy’s BS and time wasting when you tell them you are paying cash or using outside financing? NOW- Me: I’m using outside financing Tesla: Cool

2022 Q2 production Model 3 missing matrix headlights?

It seems there are other “nearby” VINs that came with the old lights but no one really knows how many cars got them. You could try asking Tesla but tbh I’m not sure how much weight I’d give their response. May not know until you see it
  42. R

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Nice. I’m in NY but same order date, same 5 day EDD dates and also a 252xxx VIN (but white exterior). Maybe they’re on the same train heading eastward now!

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

I received VIN assignment 8 days before the start of my then 2-week window. Ordered 10 days before you so maybe you are within about a week from VIN now

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Interesting - although I have seen a couple reports of owners who were able to get the Korean adapter and use it successfully in their model 3s a couple months back.
  46. R

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Presumably there are parts available now as they seem to be pumping model 3s out of the factory with matrix lights. I would think it’s a relatively high priority to get these out to the cars sitting on delivery center lots- having those cars just sit gathering dust doesn’t help Tesla.
  47. R

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

VIN number suggests someone else wasn’t able to take delivery. It seemed like the cars being reported as coming without matrix headlights had later VINs than 233xxx so you are likely ok.

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Great to hear that they are coming out with functional charge ports now!…252xxx club.
