Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
I remember when both S/X had their "refresh-refresh" around Feb/Mar, and S got matrix lights but X didn't... multiple Tesla service advisors were *convinced* that the X had matrix lights as well. More than one told me "these latest refresh models are simply BLINDING".
Couple this with multiple...
Certainly seems new. This is what I've been asking for all along: let people who are in a rush take the rejected (and hopefully repaired) cars. Let the patient folks wait for a solid build.
No need to get so emotional, and I'm not trying to argue. Just trying to collect information here.
No, I don't own a Tesla (yet!), but I own countless gorilla glass products and *occasionally* have been able to scratch a subset of them at the beach. But your anecdote is helpful- perhaps the...
Sand. Gorilla glass cannot withstand sand.
Next time you go to the beach, pay close attention to small, seemingly insignificant grains of sand that get embedded in your hands.
Then go touch a modern touchscreen.
Gorilla glass is just a brand. They have many different types of glass, often trading off shatter-resistance vs. scratch-resistance.
I've definitely managed to scratch or chip many gorilla glass products, and I consider myself to be very careful.
Yeah, that's true. But it could always be a situation where there's only 90% of stocked projected keys available. Tesla doesn't want to hold up that remaining 10%.
Absolutely. I'll say again that in practical terms this isn't a huge issue (to either Tesla or their customer), but on paper it looks rather bad.
It's so puzzling that they'd do this that I think it all but confirms that they had a supply chain disruption. I can imagine program managers...
I agree that they should absolutely include the fobs for older orders. The damage to their mindshare is arguably greater than any potential margin boost.
But at the same time I’m not bothered to buy a couple fobs given I’m already spending >100k. This is easily in “buy the fobs and move on with...
Model year doesn't matter in any useful sense other than perception. That doesn't mean every car is the same. One car built a day after another can potentially be better, or even worse (look at matrix lights getting ripped out of M3LR).
One of these cars has 98 mi on the ODO and the other has...
Thanks for this. The original MX Matrix headlights rumor was June/July, but I wouldn't be surprised if we're still looking for them into August. Perhaps a supply chain issue.
Who knows what's going on with the seat back pockets. That's so weird that they'd render it but still not ship anything...
Excellent! Let us know how it goes. And please let us know if you got matrix headlights (unlikely), or the new seat-back pockets that the updated images show.
No reports of this, AFAIK. According to Elon, all builds since Nov '21 should be able to accept the center horn software upgrade. Still puzzling why we haven't seen that yet, though.
Form factor is reportedly identical within a certain model. Even the connectors are the same.
Model 3 LR went back to "standard" lights at some point, and I think MYLR still has standard lights (while MYP has matrix), so Tesla definitely appears to leverage the parts being interoperable...
Yeah, which some have speculated happened at the beginning of July (around now). Could still be that Vxc22's car trickled-out of the factory before this (perhaps was built right at the end of June?).
Otherwise, who knows when this might happen.
Certainly looks like a very fresh VIN. Do you have a build date? This is one of the first deliveries we've seen reported around here this month. When you see it, please take pictures of your headlights... a lot of folks expecting the transition to matrix headlights soon.
If they're matrix, they...
There certainly does seem to be a gap.
Anyone here take delivery of a fresh VIN in the past week? Or have a scheduled delivery of a fresh VIN in the coming week?
Supposedly you can palm the cluster of buttons on the right side and it'll just engage the horn. But yes, I too am wondering when the "air-bag horn" will be enabled.
Soooo it's July 1... anyone here have inside info on the MX line at Fremont? Interested in hearing if there's a "Start of quarter production pause" as many have predicted (presumably for matrix lights and perhaps other changes).
It would be in-line with the Sawyer Merritt rumor, but that rumor is months old now. Still, I'll be paying very close attention to any deliveries of July builds coming up.
This is rather absurd that you even had to ask to see the interior before accepting. It also shows how inconsistent these Tesla delivery centers are. The "no dealer" model was supposed to solve this, but in a lot of ways it really does feel like visiting a traditional dealer (there are good ones...
Seems like about now is the time to start looking out for matrix headlights again. At least after we start getting fresh builds in the new quarter, especially if there is a temporary production halt.
