Supercharger - Melbourne (Box Hill), Vic

Still blows my mind that this is 8.7km away from the Camberwell Supercharger. And too far away from the Eastern Freeway and Monash Freeway to be convenient. I really don’t understand it.

Supercharger - Melbourne (Box Hill), Vic

Installing 20 destination chargers at Box Hill Central would be a better way to solve for this need in my view. With the current cost of supercharging, it is not very economical as an apartment owner to charge there solely.

Supercharger - Melbourne (Box Hill), Vic

Seriously crap location. Way too far from the M3 to make it a useful arterial option. Who is actually going to use this? Also it is quite close to the Camberwell charger (which is often not that highly utilised). The right location is Ringwood near the M3 / Maroondah Highway junction.
  4. B

    Superchargers in Australia

Yes, that location is not ideal. Just drop one in Ringwood and be done with it for maximum connectivity, and supports folks heading south and east on the M3, and out to the Yarra Valley. My view is that Superchargers should be on arterial routes rather than in urban locations. Most folks...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Amazing, this is something I have wanted for a very, very long time! How does it work? Does it give you one with tolls, one without?

What am I missing - EV pushback in Australia

This is the right answer. The electricvehicles and ausfinance subreddits are better, but avoid r/Australia and r/teslamotors like the plague. Also move to CarExpert from Drive.

Tesla map and police radar etc

I’m actually surprised that Tesla hasn’t replicated Waze given the strong community it has. It could easily crowdsource things like congestion alerts, police presence, toll costs etc.
  8. B

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Navigation needs a massive overhaul. Traffic along route is just the tip of the problem. We need alternative routes, smarter ways to avoid tolls (e.g. take toll if it saves more than 10 mins, otherwise avoid) etc.
  9. B

    Superchargers in Australia

I think more what we need is superchargers on arterial routes in and out of the city. Which is why I think Maroondah Highway / M3 route is ripe for one. If you’re heading out to the Yarra valley, there is nothing for you. Superchargers are not useful for shoppers.

    Superchargers in Australia

A real headscratecher in Victoria. I don't understand the need for an SC in both Dandenong and Wheelers Hill. They are almost adjacent to each other. The Nunawading location made more sense. EIther way, we need SCs coming online way faster than this. The rollout is too slow and too sparse.

Automated way to log charging amounts/costs?

The Tesla logging is pretty substandard because as far as I can tell, you can't set different prices for the "Other" category. E.g. DCFC at 60c/kWh charged the same as free AC charging at a supermarket.

The Stealth Hitch is now complied in Australia thanks to TOCA!

Second this. Just quite poor form from Tesla not to offer this at all. I'm equally annoyed by the roof racks being out of stock all the time.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I'd love for Premium Connectivity to allow updates over LTE. As of now, the value proposition is pretty bad, and it would be great for folks like me that park in a basement without WiFi.

This autopilot thing is getting beyond a joke

What strikes me as strange is that the AI reads roadside speed signs just fine. It's the overhead / LED ones that it struggles with, even though they look identical. Seems like a design oversight if the system is unable to read them.
  15. B

This autopilot thing is getting beyond a joke

Not to mention the speed sign recognition on the West Gate Fwy has never worked for me correctly.

    Evie EV charging networks

As an investor in Tritium, super concerning. It's becoming a narrative now.

    Supercharger - Tuggeranong ACT

Strange place to put a supercharger. Only 100km from the one south at Cooma, and going north there is already one in Canberra.
  18. B

    Evie EV charging networks

Amazing! Great location too next to the servo, and next to some chicken-salted chips.
  19. B

    Evie EV charging networks

I continue to find it remarkable that there is no charging in Ringwood / eastern suburbs given it is the gateway to the Yarra Valley and the density that way. Tesla's Supercharger isn't coming anytime soon either it feels like.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Is this standard / available for the Model Y? Or is it the same situation as the Model 3 where you need to get the Stealth Hitch?
  21. B

    Superchargers in Australia

I think we will need to get used to more expensive charging eventually. The charge prices in Europe are up to 100% more than they are here.
  22. B

    Superchargers in Australia

Good hypothesis, but I think in Europe there are lots of 3rd party chargers and Tesla still builds a lot of stalls. I genuinely think it might just be an out of sight out of mind thing in Australia.
  23. B

    Superchargers in Australia

Very disappointing. It's disheartening to see the 20+ stall chargers being built in NA/EU/CN and ours getting constantly delayed. I guess with the 9-12 month wait on the 3 and the non-existent Y, the pipeline of new cars has slowed.
  24. B

    Superchargers in Australia

Pretty disappointing to see the pushbacks. Still some real black holes in the network as well. With so many new Teslas hitting the road, could become challenging. I wonder whether it would be worth Tesla subsidising businesses to install destination chargers, especially where rural. E.g. could...

    Charging Stats

Imagine if Apple released a version of their apps which was so basic. They wouldn't because they should know it has to compete with what is already out there, and ideally, delight the customer. This Charge Stats function, the navigation sans waypoints, FSD...it's fine for people who want...

    Charging Stats

This is a good first step from Tesla, but ultimately falls pretty far short of what is possible and what should be delivered. Even simple free apps such as EEVEE allow for much more detailed setting adjustment and provide more in-depth metrics, let alone what you can get with some paid services...

Struggling between Model 3 RWD and AWD

Yes, but that is a given as it is a lower-end model. The price difference is still substantial. The other benefit is weight; AWD and additional battery makes the LR more than 200kg more heavy and affects its steering feel. If you aren't travelling on snow / dirt, AWD is wasted with the...

SR+ impressions after the first 3000kms

Thanks for sharing your views. Largely mirror my thoughts and experiences. Definitely agree that it is a pleasure to own the vehicle. If I was to complain about something at the moment, it would be the user interface which I find unnecessarily confusing and difficult to use, and the lack of...

    SR+ after 2 years

Are you sure about this? SR+ weight is 1611kg for 2021 LFP, and 1654kg for 2022 LFP. It is significantly lighter than the LR. (Source: 2021 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus RWD - Specifications and price). My SR+ has been averaging 140Wh/km over 4,000km of mixed city / highway driving.

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

I'm sorry but I really don't agree. I find myself missing a central speedo just because now I feel so much less aware of what speed I am going unless I consciously make the effort to look. A HUD is a simple and elegant solution to this (it's also tech forward - isn't that what owning a Tesla is...

    Supercharger - Warrnambool (VIC)

Very nice! Good to see that one come up :) Thanks for the update and the good pictures. I like that it is next to a Coles…hopefully bathrooms nearby as well.

Victoria Charging the Regions EV network

Does anyone have any further insight into when Tesla might consider putting third party chargers into the in-car navigation? Is this likely or should I be looking elsewhere for this e.g. ABRP.
  33. B

    BMW iX3 impressions

Yeah surprising to hear that the quality isn't good. I test drove a X3 30i and found the interior to be well screwed together, the chassis was really sporty, and the engine had great punch. Disappointing if they are skimping out on the electric version.
  34. B

    Supercharger - Warrnambool (VIC)

This feels a bit undercooked for that particular place. It's interesting that Tesla seems to choose towns to place superchargers in rather than on major routes (e.g. why not have it on the GOR somewhere?).

HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 versus TESLA MODEL 3 | Wheels Australia

I disagree. Tesla seems to update their vehicles randomly and frequently. That's not good for resale. Not to mention the market is flooded with Teslas now, whereas the IONIQ probably would sell above RRP.
  36. B

HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 versus TESLA MODEL 3 | Wheels Australia

Not sure what's wrong with an expensive Hyundai? They have proven they can make fantastic luxury products with exceptional quality with their Genesis range.
  37. B

HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 versus TESLA MODEL 3 | Wheels Australia

By...making a better car? I think the IONIQ 5 is a genuine contender for the Model Y (which by the way, isn't even available in Australia yet). It's a pretty compelling car from a manufacturer with an extremely good track record, especially in Australia.
  38. B

    Supercharger - Warrnambool (VIC)

The challenge is doing the GOR - especially if you want to go Torquay to Warnambool (which is 243km) and then back in the same day. If you are staying then it is less of a problem.
  39. B

    Supercharger - Mornington, Vic

Agreed, but every time I have been to the Richmond or Camberwell superchargers during a weekend they have almost been full. Seeing a lot more Teslas on the road now and I suspect the number is going to skyrocket over the coming year.

    Supercharger - Mornington, Vic

Do any chargers in Australia have that style? It would be amazing if so. It's a real mystery to me why Tesla keep building these small charging stations in Australia, and chargers with 20-30 stalls overseas. I hope the inner city stations are bigger.
