    2023.12...

I know the possibility not Summon working is a joke but was Summon really disabled? It used to work for me maybe 18 months ago. Now the lights just finish but my Model S doesn't move anywhere. Does anyone have a MCU2 Model S that actually has a working Summon. I've also noticed Sat Nav...

Tesla app down - 503 maintenance error?

I wonder what the odds are of there being a Daily Mail article titled "Tesla drivers forced to smash car window to rescue dog" by end of today

Tesla app down - 503 maintenance error?

Anyone else experiencing this? Fortunately I was merely trying to twiddle with charge settings but think there must be some poor soul who is locked out of their car. Maybe it's just a London issue.

    [UK] 2023.2.x

Installing 23.2.10 - not expecting anything interesting (just says "minor updates"). What I really want to know on a complete tangential basis is when they will fix summon and release dates for the new Model S!

    Give Energy Inverter

Apologies for asking a tangential question (but I don't want to start too many non Tesla related threads). I'm thinking of using GroWatt. I fully appreciate they are a Chinese company with limited or no customer support (other than from the installer) but the price is a notable difference and...

Getting Google maps to show nav points and zoom like my binacle

I have a 2018 Model S with MCU2 in the UK. As much as I like Google Maps on the main screen, I often prefer looking at the binacle (i.e. the small sat nav display behind the wheel) for sat nav instructions as it shows (through a dot on the map) the turn points and zooms in and out more...

Getting a used Tesla, deciding between years VS budget

I mean even with a MCU2 upgrade of a 2017 model, a 2021 Model S isn't the same. The 2021 model is more efficient and has one pedal driving (and of course a 2021 is still under warranty. Those matters aside, it's hard to think of any material differences and so, in respect of value for money...

    Curb rash!

https://www.motoreasy.com/insurance/alloy I went with the above company. I think there's also nil excess for cars under 2 years (I have a 2018 Model S) so didn't qualify. All roughly around £200 for three years and allows you 4 repairs a year so it's a bargain.
  11. T

    Curb rash!

It's 4 claims a year (12 over three years). Different options on excess are available. Mine is £25 per wheel but with no claim limit for curb rash (i.e. limit exceeds the typical cost of curb rash). You can just Google alloy wheel insurance. Now my wife can parallel park all she wants ;-).

    Curb rash!

I got 3 year alloy wheel insurance for £200.

Help me understand the UK Tesla market

In relation to your Model S analysis, I think you're spot on. The Model S is a bit too large for city driving (in London I can get through 7.0 ft width restrictions but I'd be really nervous with 6.7ft width restrictions). Having said that, I think they are better cars than the Model 3 (even...

Yes. Mine justbexpires. Model S has a 4 year warranty too. Mines just expired. Sod's law.

Third party garage to fix daylight running lights?

I have the usual failed DRL on my 2018 Model S 75D. 1) Tesla are charging GBP 1200 to get it fixed. I was thinking of buying a second hand one off eBay (only a few £100) and getting a third party garage to fix it. Has anyone had experience doing so? I guess the main question would be whether...
  16. T

Do I buy a second hand model S or new model 3 ?

I'd go for a face lifted Model S with MCU upgrade for the premium feel (too many Model 3s around), hatchback, premium feel, stalks, extra binnacle / screen, more space for kids and, subjectively speaking, I think the is front prettier.

The MCU2 stepchildren got V11 update and it ain't pretty

No. But I'm in the UK and understand that we don't get it.

Getting a used Tesla, deciding between years VS budget

I'd get the 2017 facelift model and then if you have a bit of spare cash, get the MCU upgrade. At that stage, you "almost" have a raven/2021 model in terms of experience and software performance (albeit range isn't as good).

Comparing older Model S with newer Model 3 (kinda similar $$$ value cars)

I think the big downside of Model S is MCU1 which does not benefit from software updates and is too slow. If you get MCU2 (by way of the upgrade or a 2018 model), an old facelift Model S is a real bargain compared to the price one would pay for a 2021 Tesla Model S.

Comparing older Model S with newer Model 3 (kinda similar $$$ value cars)

Not sure how the US market prices the cars as I live in the UK. Over here, I think the 2018 Model S is a great bargain as it's still under warranty to flush out problems and has MCU2 (so Netflix and latest updates). In relation to your questions. MS will have better sound insulation and comfort...

Model Y standard range for UK - will it happen

Anyone Know when FSD Beta will be available for 2016 AP2 cars?

For the avoidance of doubt, AP2 is not the same as MCU2. I agree with you that it's outrageous that Tesla sold you something in 2016 (i.e. FSD) without actually delivering it to you.
  24. T

Well this is it, just purchased 2018 75D from Tesla website . Have some questions

Great buy. Congrats on the well researched great bargain. I think in terms of bang for buck, this is the best vintage Tesla money can buy pre Plaid / horizontal screen versions. As you are aware the later Raven models have one pedal, boom box, better efficiency, light show and active air; each...

    Tesla Chiswick Showroom

It was never a service centre and only ever a sales room which made it less helpful. Living south of the river, I wish it would become a service centre as my closest centres are Guildford or Park Royal

Best Year/Model to Buy Used Model S

Disregarding MCU2 which you can upgrade for, boom box, live view on sentry mode, faster recharge times, and adaptive air suspension, what other material changes were there? I appreciate there were minor changes like the design of the DLR, handles and panel gaps. If you're referring to range /...

Best Year/Model to Buy Used Model S

I disagree that there loads of differences that are material. A lot of the differences are software which you will get with MCU2. Single foot driving is not possible. Front headlights and handles are likely to fail more. I agree with you on efficiency. There's also boom box and live view. Can...

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

Must do. In my humble opinion, there is little difference between an upgraded MCU facelift 2017 and the most recent pre-Plaid version (other than live view on app)
  29. T

Best Year/Model to Buy Used Model S

If affordable, buy the earliest dual motor facelift model and get a MCU upgrade. Battery size depends on your budget. Such car shall be substantially the same in look and functionality as the latest non-Plaid model (only material differences I can think of are CSS and boom box). If your budget...

    Rechroming?

Not sure about putting chrome on but I do agree it looks nicer. Maybe I'm of a certain age but black trim still reminds me of the olden days where manufacturers used black plastic trim to save money on chrome.

Green algae under edge of rear light clusters.

I have the same problem as the original poster. How do you use spray or a fine toothbrush when the mold is inside the lights (i.e. behind the glass)? Any other suggestions from other owners?

MS 75 or M3 75 LR, Dual Motor)

I agree with the Model S feeling "fatter" but having the advantage of an extra binnacle, hatch, keys, air suspension and stalks. However the main advantage, in my opinion, is aesthetics and exclusivity. A 2017 75D looks and drives virtually the same as a 100K 2021 raven provided the driver pays...

Air Suspension Issue - Normal or No?

For the avoidance of doubt, can I confirm this isn't because someone has set the car "to always raise at this location" (e.g. a previous owner or another driver). Furthermore, I presume the car is definitely raising and not lowering (as the latter may of course be due to your car settings). On...

Car Seats for kids (sorry, not the most entertaining thread to close 2021).

I had terrible trouble with my car seats too as I the Tesla isofix latches were too deep into the back of the seat. A lot of sweet and swearing was involved but I got there in the end (it involved pushing the Tesla leather back as far as I can, adjusting the rake of the Tesla car seat, adjusting...

Wiki [UK] V11 UI Changes and Features

Yes, this is definitely a downgrade in v11. Whereas previously my web browser would be approx 70% of the height of the Model S vertical screen; now, I can't seem to increase it more than half the size. I presume, no other legacy model S / MCU 2 has figured out a solution to the smaller web...

    Supercharger price not shown.

It is a grey area and potentially unlawful. Going back to contract law fundamentals, there needs to be a clear offer and acceptance. In a supermarket, the price of chocolate or petrol is clearly advertised - this is the offer. The customer then accepts the offer through filling up their car...

Wiki [UK] 2021 - The Holiday Release - 'holiday fun' not V11 UI changes and features

Two quick questions for UK Model S MCU2/Intel Atom owners: (1) has anyone got Tik Tok; and (2) the web browser now appears smaller. Whereas before it was 75% of the screen height, now it seems to be 50% and I can't enlarge it further. Many thanks

The MCU2 stepchildren got V11 update and it ain't pretty

I think you're right. I'll check on the UK part of this forum. On a separate note, has anyone figured out how to increase the size of the internet browser on model S since the update? It now appears to be only half the vertical screen size (whereas before it was more like 75%).
  39. T

The MCU2 stepchildren got V11 update and it ain't pretty

Nope - nothing in the release notes about Tik Tok; but I do have MCU2 / Intel Atom and, per the Tesla website (Introducing Software V11.0), v11 should have Tik Tok for MCU2. I also have the other Intel Atom updates such as Sonic so it's strange that there's no Tik Tok when the Tesla Website...

The MCU2 stepchildren got V11 update and it ain't pretty

I've got a 75D with MCU2 upgrade. I've got the Sonic games and general UI update but not Tik Tok in theatre mode. Is it hidden or just a bug in my update?
