Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
This is the route I was considering, but there’s not much evidence that 20’s won’t have the same issue. I like the Arachnids and am not really interested I dropping several grand on 20’s only to have the same issue. Has anyone with aftermarket 20’s driven 10k+ miles to validate this goes away?
I took this photo with the tire off. What do we think could be rubbing here besides the tire?
Here is my very rudimentary representation of what could be happening:
I don’t recall the load ratings on thr BMW tires, but they were probably not as high as these. But that still wouldn’t explain the lack of gradual treadwear, would it? The tread depth here was extremely even across the width of the tire up until half-an-inch from the inside sidewall.
I’m not aware of any magic statement that will get Tesla to contribute. Their standard line is that they don’t warranty tires. The certs available from Discount Tire seems to be the better route if you can park your car until the 21” 4S’s finally get back in stock.
That being said, are we...
I think you could be on to something here. The wear does seem to precise to be camber or torque related. It’s flabbergasting that this car would make it through years of development with such a basic flaw as a tire rubbing on a suspension component.
John, I’m also in GA. Did you actually succeed in getting a lemon law claim on the tires? Was this against Tesla or Michelin? I’ve already bought two new rears (through Tesla with no warranty), but would surely like either Michelin or Tesla to step up here. Clearly this is some type of defect...
Seems as if posting from a mobile is more simple than a desktop…please excuse me, I’ve been a lurker for a long time.
Here is my passenger side rear:
And drivers side rear:
This! Mine look great all across the tread, the problem is on the very inside edge on the ‘corner’ of the tire. I’m familiar with camber wear from years of BMWs and this does not seem the same. If I knew how to post pics you’d see something similar (albeit a bit worse) than KOL2000. In fact, I...
You are NOT the only one experiencing this! I think the lack of response is because this is just beginning to show up for many of us. I'm the owner of a '21 Plaid w/21's and have the exact same issue. Spent the early part of this week going through all the chaos of identifying the problem...
