    Poll on the Nosecone Debate

I think the model 3 nose also incorporates the hood/bonnet and the fact that the hood/bonnet doesn't "overhang" the bumper makes it seem bigger. Most likely done to improve drag, but I'm still not sure I like it... Also where does the water around the hood/bonnet go?

Info and Hints from Elon Tweets

The question is; when will people get their cars? And will people's patience run out? Tesla have showed they can deliver, just not on time. Yet all they have to do is deliver 1 model 3 in 2017...

    Wiki Model 3 Reveal Event Coverage (3/31/16) 8:30PM PST - Discussion/Pictures/Video

Anyone here sit in the front on the test drive? Elon made comment about the front seating position to be further forward than normal. Can anyone comment on how it felt?

    Model 3 Unveiling and Reservation

I watched it again. Supercharging is standard on all models. Autopilot safety features are standard, but the other autopilot features you have to purchase.

    Model 3 Unveiling and Reservation

Tesla have done good. Supercharging and autopilot included. Design is nice, but not sure about front bumper and bonnet/hood design. Front lights are nice. The inside looks like a step down from the outside... What is with that steering wheel? Looking forward to some car reviewers getting their...

SpaceX employees now allowed to reserve Model 3

I think it's a good move that the people who get the first few thousand model 3s are Elon employees. They will be into providing feedback without running to the press and blowing stuff out of proportion. New model, new gigafactory. There will be teething problems, I'm happy that these people...

March Model 3 Unveil just drawings? No actual car? Disappointed.

It's going to be life size car. Even a clay model would be a joke. Expect it to have everything but do nothing. Still... How could Elon not unveil the model 3 by setting up a garage door and calling the car to him from his smart phone. Or something with autonomous driving.

Have Tesla and Apple disrupted the auto industry past the point of no return?

The expectation of the future is different, but the % of disruption isn't even next to the decimal point. (Elon said it best, had to copy him)

    Model X Mule Sightings

I wonder if they will make a "trailer mode". The 100% torque at take off would be quite violent to the trailer. Also wonder how much the rear spoiler helps with trailer aerodynamics. Thirdly; show us those seats!

Supercharging to reduce ownership cost of a Model S.

Not if you can work from your car.

Is the Model X not that different?

Good to see falcon wing doors on everyone's list :p
  17. T

Should SCs be located near stores?

Considering one day the majority of cars will be electric, tesla is getting the "better spots" on a first in best served basis.

WSJ: Tesla: Just Another Car Company

I see this as telling one side of the story. Yes tesla used government money to fund their factories, but the other car manufactures get funding too. And yes tesla has played catchup with safety "technology" (autonomous driver assist) BUT in a crash the model S was the safest car ever tested...

When will we get our first look at the Model 3?

At the last earnings call elon said the modelX delay would not impact the model3 and that they couldn't let it because the gigafactory is on track. This is also where the "less radical design" comment came from, so that the model3 doesn't get delayed like the X So 2017... Go elon.

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

Depends how safe tesla were with their bms. They want to build a trusted reliable brand, so going safe with the bms makes sense. Now that they have thousands of model S data they could be refining it.
  27. T

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

Has to be supercharging for everyone as standard. Or something else significant. A navigation update doesn't seem significant enough for a press conference.

Engineers: Lowest Wh/mile possible for Gen3 at 55mph? Battery pack size

Those figures probably have a lot to do with the motor gear ratio rather than aerodynamics.
  30. T

    Model 3 autopilot

I think it's possible to dangle a cherry while still holding onto the golden goose egg. Elon said at The D unveiling that he wants the car to plug itself in and drive to your front door. That's 2 announcements that can encourage people to buy the tech package, even though it's not available yet.
  31. T

    Model 3 autopilot

That depends on tesla and their road map of updates. The best thing tesla can do is when they release the model3, is also release a timeline of updates they plan to implement so people are encouraged to buy non standard packages; tech package, 85kwh/sc access, awd, extended warranty etc

Elon's demand "secret weapon" ...what is it?

It was good to see that Elon is very self aware that the model S is already an expensive car. i expect a price drop to be the secret weapon.
  33. T

Model 3 won't look like other cars

20% smaller than the S is still a decent size car. My thoughts are if you take a 3 series, add an aerodynamic front bumper, change the trunk to a hatch with a higher trunk so head room on the back seat isn't compromised. That will be pretty close. Obviously Elon will want to put his mark on it...

Very illogical decision on a very logical reasoned company?

+1 And by the sounds of things the service centre guys will give you a pat on the back.

    Jump seat seat belt failure

What if the seats are made by a 3rd party? I wouldn't be surprised if the same locking mechanism is used in other restraint applications(by other manufacturers), because sometimes it's more trouble to reinvent the wheel.

BMW & VW team up with Chargepoint to create high speed EV charging network

VW and BMW won't make cars like tesla until the scales of economics tip and it's cheaper for them to produce an EV. Because until that happens they would be eating away at their own profit. Tesla on the other hand have to convince people that EVs are the future, so they have all the incentive in...

Op-Ed: Chevrolet Bolt Makes 200-Mile, $30,000 Electric Car A Reality – Sorry Tesla

While nothing has been revealed yet, I say well done to GM for making an EV that goes 200miles for 30k. Tesla needs a gigafactory to make an EV that goes 200miles for $35k. I hope GM do well with this car, the more EVs on the road the better for everyone.

    Superchargers in Australia

Hey Chuq, I think Tassie is different when it comes to supercharging needs. I'd prefer a service centre with super chargers. One in Hobart and one in launceston. I assume we will at least have a service centre in Hobart by the time model 3 gets released.
  42. T

Model 3 won't look like other cars

I remember elon taking a question (at a shareholders meeting) about hub cap aerodynamics and how a flat disk hubcaps improves range, but look terrible. Elon responded with "we are working on some thing's that we think you will like" (something along those lines). We are yet to see anything so...

New Model X on display at Panasonic booth CES 2015?

It makes sense that Panasonic would showcase a tesla. They are large investors in the gigafactory and want the X and model3 to do well.

    Tesla in Australia

Went to chadstone and sat in my first model S today. The car looks amazing, that Duco and those rims *drool* The inside seemed odd at first. I can see why a lot of people say the inside is lacking. There's not much there other than the screen. All the usuals are missing and one 17" inch screen...

Reading between the lines... 200 mile range with 35kWh battery?

And that's only when you range charge. I think tesla will just sell more of the higher kWh pack, so it's not that important to them. As long as they hit the 200miles and 35k on paper then they have done what they said. But I guarantee they plan on selling more 50k+ model 3s than 35k.

    No Model III until 2019?

Just to add to JPR3s point; Tesla is not constructing something new, it's still packing batteries with the current technology that's on the market today. And Panasonic is their biggest partner and they know a thing or two about running a battery factory. The biggest obstacle is 100,000 model...

    No Model III until 2019?
