Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
Thanks. Haha, I actually ended up receiving 10ft of it and I found it pretty flexible and workable and not any more ugly than PVC or emt conduit. Going to try and do the final installation in a week or so, but gonna spend some time making sure I understand and installation nuances (for example...
I'd like some sanity check myself.
I plan to hardwire a charger in my garage, and my electric panel is on the same garage wall, but on the outside of the house.
My plan was to just drill a hole directly through the panel to my garage, less than 2 feet of cable, but there is no stud at the...
Funny. I was looking through my county requirements to see if I needed to pull a permit to make a new 240v circuit so I could hardware my charger, and it's pretty clear that I do.
Yet when I was getting quotes from electricians, both of them said a permit wasn't required.
There's no weird...
The charger should be able to do 48A, so I was just going to go with that. And since I don't have to worry about the price of long lengths of wire, I was going to go with the /3 in case I ever decided to put in a 14/50 outlet.. doubtful, but still.
I'll be doing it hardwired since I found a hardwired charger for $200, which would be the price I'd be paying for materials for just a 14-50 outlet (GFCI breaker and receptacle).
But you are right that the 4/3 might be hard to find. I'd have to get it online it seems, as my local HD doesn't look...
Hmm, why not Romex? I though the 4/3 was rated for 70A(54A derated)
And I'm looking for a Romex because I'll only be taking it through a foot of drywall and no conduit is needed for Romex.

So I found a charg point home flex for $200 which seems like a good deal as well. The app looks to have a lot of functionality.
It's also hardwired and can do up to 50A(48A being the max for my model Y). I have the J1772 adapter.
So I'll use that, get a regular 60A breaker (~$20), and get a...
So I found someone will to sell me their gen 2 wall connector for $250. I'm also seeing Gen 3s for $300. I wonder if it's worth the additional $50. Gen 3 has an 18 foot cable instead of 24 feet. And gen 3 is also wireless for extra capabilities. But I'm pretty confident I won't be using any of...
Do you mean gen 3 has the power sharing capability?
https://insideevs.com/news/404714/review-tesla-gen3-wall-connector/amp/
I honestly have no plans to need to use it in the future, so I'm fine with a used gen 2 if I can get it for $250. Then all I need is a regular 60A breaker ($17) and a...
I've started looking for used Tesla wall connectors and it seems there are some around me selling for $250-300. I think they are Gen 2 though, but from what I've read that shouldn't be a concern for me.
I've actually been using the regular 120v outlet for the last 3 years, but I recently moved into a new house and since the install seemed simple, I thought I would go ahead and make the jump.
I plan to mainly charge for free at work, with faster charging at home on weekends when multiple longer...
Interesting. I'm going to have to do a bit more research.
With the price of the breaker and receptacle probably ending up close to, or above, $250, I'm highly considering a hardwired solution. The chargers are still so expensive though.
Woah, thanks for the quick find. For some soon, I was thinking the gfcb meant GFCI, so it'd have to be a gfcb250.
While I'm here, I'd like some opinions on how easy this 14-50 install should be.
My garage is right on the other side of my panel. If I measure it right, I should just be able to...
Does the GFIC breaker have to be a specific type that matches your panel?
My panel says to use gfcb breakers, so I searched gfcb250 and I can't find it for below $200
Yeah, that's what I believe I have. Well, I think it's on a 20A circuit since I see a 20A breaker in the breaker box. Which makes sense since I am able to draw 12A when charging on my 5-15 outlet, and still able to use the garage opener and stuff, without anything tripping. I have 5 outlets in...
I'd like to try this in my home, but it seems like no single outlet in the garage is on a dedicated breaker. All the outlets, including the one used for the garage door are tied to be the same breaker on my panel.
So this modification wouldn't be possible correct?
240 miles driving from Denver to Dallas. This was back in 2020 on the Trinidad, CO to Amarillo, TX stretch. Before that new supercharger was made.
Distance between the two locations was exactly 240 miles and we went from 100 and arrived at 0%.
Not bad considering this was in December in temps...
Just got my Model Y back after it had some body work done due to hail damage. When I'm driving the car, I keep hearing this whirring sound. The kind of sound the seats make when you push them down. Also almost like the whirring sound you hear when something locks/unlocks.
I have no better way...
