Home made jack pad for Model S

I would imagine a real production version to be made of hard rubber or polyurethane (not wood), something like these: https://www.amazon.com/Small-Universal-Slotted-Polyurethane-Protector/dp/B00W2NMO3Y https://www.amazon.com/2-Pack-Rubber-Jack-Pads-Slotted/dp/B06WRMSHP2

Home made jack pad for Model S

Mine are regular pine - I wanted softer wood to avoid any damage on the car. After 3 seasonal tire changes, it virtually shows zero wear

Glad it worked well for you BigTonyTones. Designing them for the first time was a PITA, as I had to throw away a bunch of early prototypes.

Home made jack pad for Model S

I've used mine a few times (put a set of winter tires and then back the summer tires) - still looks like new. I have a racing jack with soft rubbery surface, which seems to be very gentle on the pad.

Home made jack pad for Model S

I have proper polyurethane jack pads... but they are really difficult to center. A few mm off - and you are damaging the plastic shield. I've noticed damage in 3 out of 4 corners after just being in Tesla SC once for a wheel swap. So I wanted a pad that would be correctly positions 100% of...

Home made jack pad for Model S

After failing to find a proper jack pad for my Model S, I decided to make one myself out of the wood. I wanted something that would use entire jacking surface and would not slip. I also wanted something that would self-center to use this entire jacking surface. It took me quite a few hours to...

    19" vs 20" pics?

I am also worried about the curb rush with these. For folks who got 20s, do you feel there's any rim protection with 245 tires?

Media player in 8.0 actually got worse (for local music)

I am also super disappointed with new player - completely ruined my experience. I spent countless hours sorting the songs on my USB drive - but now everything is playing alphabetically and without ability to create a "playlist" there are only two options: alphabetical or random.

Anyone jump ship from a Model X?

Confirmed my S today and cancelled X... the handling and the looks of facelifted S were just irresistible.

Did the colors change on refreshed model S?

Did the colors change on refreshed model S?

I was comparing to non-signature red cars... all P90Ds they use as test drivers. I even took one of their paint color samples... it was a perfect match with "classic" cars, but looked much darker then facelifted model
  13. nick_083

Did the colors change on refreshed model S?

I saw a facelifted red model S at the Tesla store today and it had a different red then pre-facelifted models standing right next to it. The facelifted red was a lot lighter, more of "scarlet red" vs darker shade or red in the pre-facelifted cars. Am I hallucinating... or these are different...

Crunch! Falcon Wing Doors fail to sense obstacle

My local Tesla store graciously agreed to bring Model X into my garage today so I can "test-open" the FWDs. We tried it in the "very low" suspension setting and it worked like a charm (with about 1cm clearance before the garage door track). Unfortunately in the "normal" suspension setting it...

Anyone jump ship from a Model X?

I am completely on the fence between S and X and would appreciate insights from people who drove / own both. I felt S handled much better on the twisty road... but my test drive with X was relatively short... I didn't take either one it to Nürburgring :( In X I like: Improved quality of...

    "Meet Model X: Exclusive Viewing"

I went to the event in Highland Park, IL today - there were very few customers... but the staff was TOTALLY clueless and couldn't answer a single question about Model X... just kept pushing me to finish configuration. They kept saying "they don't give us much information on the Model X", I...

[They installed 3M color stable 20 on the upper windshield area. They indicated it worked great when they drove the car back to the detailer this morning. Would you please post some pictures from inside of the car when you get it back? I drove X today and found the sun to be very bright and...

Reservation holders: Would you configure & confirm your ModelX without access to one?

For me it is a very expensive purchase and I'd rather be safe then sorry. So I would defer my configuration and purchase until I have a chance to test-drive Model X. I want to make sure the seating position works for me, that I am comfortable with panoramic windshield... and also to see how...

    Desired options unavailable?

Traction control - no matter how good it is cannot defy the laws of physics: there's only so much traction each tire gives you based on the size of the patch which meets the road. It is naive to assume you can have better traction with some smart gadgetry and only 50% of the potential grip on...

    Desired options unavailable?

I have a P984, but a must have option for me (AWD) is currently unavailable. I assume it has to become available since X will have AWD - but during my discussions with Tesla reps they were very evasive in outlining IF or WHEN the AWD will become an option for S. Now the question for the...

Any thoughts why are the runs getting slower even though the battery still holds plenty of charge? The first and second runs were the quickest, and after that it just got slower and slower despite having plenty of charge. By the sixth and final run it was 0.3 second slower.

    Are you making a reservation?

That is exactly where I am - so agreed, should be the option. Another one could be "waiting to see if X would be available with normal doors"
  31. nick_083

    Reactions to the Model X

Very much with you here. I do like the looks... but I would much rather have "normal" doors. There are simply too many issues, like reliability, snow / rain / frozen doors issues and height clearance in garages or parking lots.

Model X - Elon Musk says new SUV model due in 2013

Speaking to Tesla folks in Chicago last week, they felt AWD will never make its way to Model S and will be a feature offered on Model X instead. Looks like the Model X is in development indeed... but then - if it's sharing the same platform how come they can offer AWD on X but not S?

I loved the design of the car - it looks absolutely stunning in person, reminded me a lot of Maserati Quattroporte. I am (as many others) is very concerned about how close the finished car will look to this prototype. I remember I was so excited about the Oldsmobile Alero concept car... but...

I do race my cars. You guys are lucky you can afford several of these cool toys... but not everyone can... and for me AWD is that important (some people like blonds... some like AWD cars.. you know). Frankly speaking I may not be as concerned about AWD if I lived in TX though. As much as I...

Have you reserved your Model S or do you plan on it?

I reserved mine in July of 09, #984. My biggest concern is AWD now - it was in the original car specs (AWD option available) but has pretty much disappeared since then. Leaving in a rust belt, RWD is not a viable option for me... and I am concerned that none of the prototypes show how the...
