NC Commissioner restrictions on Tesla Charlotte

Apple watch arrived today, which I bought directly from... Apple. Why must a car be purchased from a dealer and not the mfg? One choice in business is whether you pursue a channel sales model, or a direct sales model (or, often ill-fated, both). Why would one business segment continue to have...

Main screen not turning on, mirrors not retracting, owner out of town.

I had this same issue shortly after getting the current firmware on a P85D. I did a reboot-- no impact. A few minutes and a second reboot recovered the car to normal operation. No repeats of this behavior in ~8 days.

Minnesota Tesla owner and family found dead in home

Brian-killed-his-innocent-family! Zythryn, you belittle Archer citing ignorance while calling for empathy. It is tragic that something mentally misfired in this man, but he still committed premeditated murder of four others who had their lives before them. You note that "Brian we knew was the...

Smart Air Suspension in the "real world"

It works... everytime. I have a steep driveway that I will scrape on if not raised up. Everytime I approach the house, the car is already on the way up. It is really amazing actually, and quite simple. I have seen it still raising when I enter the turn into the driveway, but it is always just...

    Electrician in Cary, NC

To weigh in on this... if the electrician hasn't done an EV charging station install, or better an HPWC install previously, be cautious. We saw quotes climbing to $6K as local electricians padded to protect themselves for something they were unfamiliar with. That said the wiring is pretty...

Anyone with a "D" model and 20" aftermarket wheels?

Running 20" Nurburgring wheels on Pilot Super Sports on my P85D similar to Lolachampcar. My former P85+ had more severe rubbing with stock 21s when backing up with an extreme turn. 20's can get a very mild rub under just the right circumstances backing up. Sound noise increases about 5-10% over...

Views on handling performance - p85d

Some fundamental benefits of electric also come to play... the battery weight creating a broad and low center of gravity lets you feel that the car doesn't want to roll. The instant access to power as you come out of a turn makes the car 'feel' lighter. For contrast, I had the Maserati Coupe out...

    Show off your aftermarket wheels.

The UK provider of caps mentioned earlier have an epoxy coat over the printed base. It would be nice to find someone who had aluminum caps that then could have an embossed and painted logo in it... time to consult google some more.

Talk me out of ordering a set of 21" Turbine Wheels for my P85D

Silver CVTs on the silver car looks sharp! Those were on my shortlist as well. What tires did you end up with?

Run to the deep south May 29th

Have fun! I imagine mileage heading south will be more enjoyable (excepting chunks of 95) from a driving perspective then some of the NorthEastern Corridor you travelled. BTW-- attachment did not work. If you need a CHAdeMO for the trip... I have one in Chapel Hill. Enjoy!!

    Show off your aftermarket wheels.

Center Caps for Aftermarket Wheels What are people doing for the center caps for aftermarket wheels if you don't keep the wheel mfg's tag? Anyone know what Tesla's stock diameter of center cap is offhand?

Talk me out of ordering a set of 21" Turbine Wheels for my P85D

Many many options of course. The TSW Nurburgrings in 20s have been used by a number of forum members, myself included, and are available in mirror face, bronze or grey, and are several pounds lighter than the stock rims. Ensure that the wheels you choose can support the weight of the Tesla...

Talk me out of ordering a set of 21" Turbine Wheels for my P85D

Suggest you keep the 19s, and buy a set of 20s with sticky summer tires like the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Better overall cost ($3K for a set of PSS + TSW rims), arguably better all around tire wall profile and you have two sets of wheels/tires. Had 21's with PS2 tires on my P85+ (several...

Should EVs Make Artificial Sounds at Low Speeds?

The requirement that pedestrians can recognize the sound as coming from a motor vehicle is challenging. While they specifically say that it does not need to mimic an ICE, most motor vehicles are ICE, and that is the sound we expect to hear. Of note: anyone up for supporting an olfactory...

    Alternative to 21" Turbines?

PSS are on my to-get list for summer. From the sharp hi-res shots I see you have 255/40 in the PSS... Probably slight bigger diameter than factory, any issue with rubbing on the fronts?

How to open ans close the windows with the key ?

Ditch the antediluvian key fob--- the feature belongs in the App along with the car start feature recently added. The App would show you a picture of the windows state, so you could see that they were opened or closed. Think how easy it will be to drop the windows from your Apple watch...

iOS Tesla App - Can one login operate multiple cars?

The app support more than one car. When you have more than one car associated, the app has a 'switch vehicle' function on the main menu. Mine showed that when I had two P85s for a brief stint.

    CHAdeMO Adapter

Managed to have a non-rainy day to use the CHAdeMO adapter in a 40kW DC Quick Charger. The unit ramped quickly to about 116MPH, and did not taper while the Tesla charged to 90%. It is interesting that the svelte $750 HPWC I use at home yields 59mph (dual chargers). The DC Quick Charger...

My brakes acted similar. Extremely noisy (who's got the jalopy?) for the first three or four hundred miles. - - - Updated - - - Not having multiple destinations, or waypoints or similar is a huge omission. This is particularly poignant for Tesla-- we need to go from point A to point C...

    12 Volt Battery Failure

Service Road Service was needed and they were on hand remarkably quickly with a loaner. The car still functioned, mirrors unfolds, lights on, etc, just wouldn't start (and go into drive). I wonder what a volt meter would have reported. Once the car is in drive, I don't think a low 12V battery...

    12 Volt Battery Failure

Wraithnot: Agree, that the car would need service. Depending on distance from the nearest SC, getting the car running may be a useful step just to get home, etc.. Do we know when the aux battery gets charged? I have heard the contactors fire (main pack coming on line) when the car is not...

    12 Volt Battery Failure

About 5 weeks into the cars life, I experienced the '12 volt battery too low to start your vehicle'. Routine, around town driving. Charged the night prior. Other NC Model S owners, Question

Subpanel for HPWC If you have the space, installing a 100 to 120 amp subpanel near the HPWC is a practical approach. You gain an effective cutoff, and could add in a different future tech, or a 120 outlet etc.. I think one other advantage is asking an electrician to install a subpanel is what...

    Urge Tesla to add 4G/LTE

The 3G modem is almost invariably upgradeable ni some capacity--- otherwise the lifespan of the car would be severely impacted with an eventual 3G turndown. Building any connected tablet today without 4G ready antennas would be unwise. The carriers like to drop older cell technologies by local...

Pilot Super Sports for the 21" staggered wheels

Excellent idea to request 21" rears in PSS Great idea-- I had been meaning to make this request myself. I have taken the reminder and submitted the request as well. To make it easier-- we are asking for the 265/35R21 tire size in the Pilot Super Sport style.

Tesla Model S - Pros vs Cons

Pro: The time savings of the few seconds to plug in at home, versus the number of minutes spent each week pumping gas into an ICE. Pro: Copious storage with trunk, extra trunk box (if no 3rd seat), & frunk Con: Destination charging can still be a challenge. Big chain hotels as well as inns...

Summer Tire replacement - stay with 21", or drop to 19"

The prone to damage is the real bell ringer against the 21's. While some road craters will impact a 19, 20, and 21, a minor road impediment will damage the 21 tires, and likely the rims. Examples of environmental risks to the 21s: a metal road surface plate, pavement cut for resurfacing. Most...

    Air vs Springs Suspension

A couple of clicks, and a few seconds. I usually do it just as I approach my driveway, and by the time the car is in a position where it needs the height, it has already finished raising itself up. While not instantaneous, the screen makes it quite easy to click, so you can quickly hit raise...

FWIW, I use the air every day to get in my driveway. On standard the car scrapes... and that is after I got the driveway 'fixed' with an improved angle of arrival at the roadway. Since I am in the habit of using it, I have boosted the height from time-to-time when on roads about to be...

Maintenance Charges & Telecom charges Much has been added to this thread in the last 24 hrs, however I wanted to address the telecom charges.
