Scheduled charging not working right after latest update

I have the old CPU too (for now). Weird if that's related. Did you try the workaround? Slide the charge limit bar in the app down to below your current charge level. Stop charging (in the app). Then when it says "Charging Complete" you can slide the bar back up to your preferred limit and the...

Incentives coming at the end of Q4 2019?

You may be right. I just did a quick inventory check near me, and in 5 or 6 other popular zip codes. Zero inventory Model 3s available. There are Xes and Ses but no Model 3s in inventory accoring to Tesla's inventory checker: New & Used Electric Cars | Tesla

Incentives coming at the end of Q4 2019?

I'm surprised there aren't any Q4 incentives yet. This past May, they upped the referral bonus from 1,000 miles to 5,000 miles of free supercharging as a Q2 incentive. The base referral bonus is not actually 1,000 miles, but is 400 kWh. On a Model 3, that 400 kWh credit can actually get you more...

Scheduled charging not working right after latest update

Hey, folks, I set my scheduled start time for charging to 12:00 AM in order to take advantage of off-peak rates. I leave my Model 3 plugged in at all times. I also set a calendar reminder on my phone to remember to stop charging at 8:00 AM (I charge at 120V, so don't always get a full charge...

Model 3 Tires for Winter: UHP All-Season vs. Dedicated Winter Tires - Opinions?

Yes. 235/45R18. I went with Michelin X-Ice Xi3 on my 18" Aeros and they worked well this past winter. I bought a second set of the 18" rims from Tesla for $200 each and just have two full sets of wheels to swap twice a year.

Question on MPGe vs. KwH/Mile and EPA Rated Range on Model 3 Performance

That was a good month as I drove the car more and had a couple of long distance road trips (800 miles each way). I know BEVs do better overall with city driving vs. highway but not when every red light is an opportunity to impress more ICE drivers to want an EV. :) I'm a true EVangelist. The...

Question on MPGe vs. KwH/Mile and EPA Rated Range on Model 3 Performance

That's pretty incredible efficiency for AWD. Is your commute downhill in both directions? :) And do you have the 18 inch wheels with the aero caps? They do add up to about 5-7% gain in efficiency from what I've read.
  8. MrBoylan

Question on MPGe vs. KwH/Mile and EPA Rated Range on Model 3 Performance

Maybe on the RWD which is more efficient than the Performance AWD. But 242 wH/mile isn't easy to attain on the Performance AWD Model 3, particularly with the stock 20-inch wheels, and certainly not if you like taking advantage of the car's amazing acceleration. I've got the 18-inch aeros on...

Question on MPGe vs. KwH/Mile and EPA Rated Range on Model 3 Performance

Actually that was pretty comprehensive. Thanks. I misinterpreted Zoomit's "include losses from the charger" to have the opposite meaning. He didn't write it wrong. I read it wrong. :) So thanks to all of you guys for the explanation. I get it now (mostly). :)

Question on MPGe vs. KwH/Mile and EPA Rated Range on Model 3 Performance

Clear as mud. Thanks! :) Seriously, thanks for links to the detailed documents - fascinating stuff - but they don't explain the discrepancy. I'm doing a very simple comparison between two numbers that are both EPA approved. The EPA certified fuel economy numbers state that the Model 3 LR AWD...

Question on MPGe vs. KwH/Mile and EPA Rated Range on Model 3 Performance

I believe it was only the Long Range RWD that got a rated range boost from 310 to 325 miles. Model 3 AWD and AWD Performance are still rated at 310 miles. At least mine still says that when I charge it to 100% and the web site states the same thing. As for the battery being at or near 75 kWH in...

Question on MPGe vs. KwH/Mile and EPA Rated Range on Model 3 Performance

Relevant when calculating actual cost of ownership, but not when doing this math. The net charging losses don't apply to the actual battery capacity. The battery capacity of 75 kWh is a fixed number. If it takes 80 kWH of electricity to give the battery 75kWH of charge, that's useful...

Question on MPGe vs. KwH/Mile and EPA Rated Range on Model 3 Performance

OK, I promise that this is not another "Why can't I get the rated range on my Model 3?" question. I'm just trying to figure out how the EPA rated range matches up with the EPA's MPGe and kWh/mile ratings Looking at the EPA ratings on fueleconomy.gov for the Model 3 AWD, Performance and Standard...

Liberty Mutual "alternative fuel" discount doesn't include Model 3 (or any EVs)

BTW, on my 8th e-mail to Liberty Mutual, after asking this to be escalated twice, I did finally get a reply acknowledging the issue and a promise to look into it. I did confirm via an online VIN decoder that my VIN does specifically decode to Fuel Type: Electric, but whatever system Liberty...

    New Referral Program (March 2019)

5,000 miles does sound appealing, but if they're doing a flat kWH credit for all vehicles then it could actually end up being *more* than 5,000 miles depending on which car you get. And that would be even more appealing. :)
  17. MrBoylan

    New Referral Program (March 2019)

That would be one way to do it, and probably the most accurate. But is that how they are *actually* doing it? Because when I look at my account history, for supercharging usage, it says nothing about miles gained per session: Here's one sample charging session from last year: Energy 55 kWh @...

    New Referral Program (March 2019)

OK, am I the first person to ask this? Because I feel like I shouldn't be. But, um, what the hell does "1,000 miles of free supercharging" even mean as far as actual kWH of charge? If you take it at face value, then the actual value of this is different depending on which car you buy. For a...

Liberty Mutual "alternative fuel" discount doesn't include Model 3 (or any EVs)

Did I forget to mention I write for CleanTechnica? :) But this looks like it is just some kind of error in their system (and lack of understanding from their support folks). Some LM customers are getting the discount. I just don't happen to be one of them. I have enough info to challenge it...

Liberty Mutual "alternative fuel" discount doesn't include Model 3 (or any EVs)

Feel free to send a screen shot to your Liberty Mutual rep. That's what I'm doing. Insurance discounts for Enhanced Autopilot?

This is interesting. I just reviewed my Liberty Mutual policy which is up for renewal. I own a 2005 Highlander Hybrid and a Model 3 Performance. My policy says that I'm getting the "Alternative Energy" discount on the Highlander Hybrid, but not on the Tesla. When I asked why not, the Liberty...

Model 3 AutoPilot lane change "shimmy" - anyone else get this?

It was a single side lane change "stutter" but not necessarily abort. Sometimes it would abort the lane change entirely, but more often it would begin the lane change, then head back to the original lane, then complete the lane change. The local service center said they found no evidence of...

Liberty Mutual "alternative fuel" discount doesn't include Model 3 (or any EVs)

So this is a head-scratcher. We have two cars insured by Liberty Mutual currently: a 2005 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and a 2018 Model 3 Performance. I checked the policy details last week and I saw that the Highlander qualifies for the "alternative fuel" discount which the Model 3 does not. I...

Model 3 AutoPilot lane change "shimmy" - anyone else get this?

In my case, replacement of the rear sensors and wiring harness solved the problem. Local service center in Brooklyn was not up to the task for this. Even when I reproduced it with their tech in the car, the tech said it was "normal behavior." If you drive on the highway with EAP often, then try...

Model 3 AutoPilot lane change "shimmy" - anyone else get this?

I was operating the car correctly. The sensors and/or wiring harness were at fault. After replacing the rear sensors and wiring harness, my EAP lane change issue went away. Haven't seen the problem since.

Model 3 AutoPilot lane change "shimmy" - anyone else get this?

10% is pretty high. I got the runaround from local service, but was eventually able to escalate it and get the problem fixed. It was *not* a software problem.
  30. MrBoylan

Model 3 AutoPilot lane change "shimmy" - anyone else get this?

Yes. After the mobiles techs replaced the rear sensors and wiring harness, EAP now works flawlessly with lane changes both to the left and to the right. So it was a hardware problem after all.

Model 3 AutoPilot lane change "shimmy" - anyone else get this?

Blog Tesla to Enable Video Playback for Parked Cars

Video streaming isn't hard, and the CPU will be otherwise unoccupied while in park. So I'd bet they will roll it out to all cars.
  33. MrBoylan

Model 3 AutoPilot lane change "shimmy" - anyone else get this?

Bummer. But also strange that we don't have thousands of other Model 3 owners complaining about this situation. Although the service center said that they saw "no evidence of malfunction" (in my case), a later review of the logs by one of the Tesla engineers did find some evidence of failed...

Exactly. If you pre-order a Blu-ray Disc on Amazon, and the price goes down any time before or at delivery, you automatically get the lowest price. It's the most logical (and fairest) way to handle a pre-order.

Solicitation for Opinions on Tesla Service and Recent Pricing Changes

It boggles the mind. I don't know what better examples to give. Hey, pre-order the new iPhone for $999 or wait a couple of weeks and pre-order the same iPhone for $699. Solicitation for Opinions on Tesla Service and Recent Pricing Changes

Tried to correct this in the original post, but I didn't see a way to edit it. There's an error here in that Tesla actually swapped the prices of AutoPilot and Full Self Driving in the new pricing structure by rolling some of the features that had been in "Enhanced AutoPilot" into FSD (now $5K...

Solicitation for Opinions on Tesla Service and Recent Pricing Changes

I'm sure the pricing kerfuffle is still in flux; but these changes seem to indicate a pattern, rather than an anomaly. The service issues will also certainly change over time. But for the better or for the worse, it remains to be seen Tesla is experiencing growing pains. When you can't...

Solicitation for Opinions on Tesla Service and Recent Pricing Changes

Your "mark up for profit" comment makes no sense in this context. No one who bought a Model 3 expects to be able to sell it for more than they paid for it. No one who has any common sense, anyway. Re-selling for profit is not the issue. The rest of your argument would make some sense if it were...

    Now that FSD is gone...

So you already own a Tesla, right? For those who do, who did not yet purchase AP or FSD, Tesla has stated that AP is available to them (to you?) for $2K and FSD is available for $3K. Musk's tweet said the new processor would be available in new cars in roughly 6 months. He said that in October. And he's on Elon-time, so I'd guess that it will be rolled into the cars this fall (Elon time x 2=12 months). Anything sooner than that is a bonus. I expect they will prioritize...
