It might help to know the year of your car. That way we would have a shot at understanding whether you might need the FSD computer (which would be a free upgrade). I'm guessing your car came with the FSD option, but you are on an older version of the hardware--so Tesla is obligated to upgrade...

Wouldn't this just be about whether you ordered your car with FSD, in which case HW3 is a free upgrade to HW2/HW2.5? I got my HW upgraded free but then had to pay $1500 to upgrade MC1==>MCU2 (which was super worth it).
