First 24hrs with my Model Y Performance (spoiler: full motor failure)

I share a lot of your concerns. Auto Wipers, Auto Highbeam Lights, self-dimming mirror, and blindspot are *meh*. Wife's Jeep is 100x better. Coming from a 2015 F350, Long Bed Crew Cab as a daily driver, it didn't have any of that stuff so it's all bonus to me, but I would be disappointed if I...

    Supercharger - Soldotna, AK

Really wish the Tok to Anchorage drive via Tok Cutoff Highway/Richardson/Glenn would get some attention as to go from Tok over to Fairbanks before going down the Parks to Anchorage adds a lot of miles to the journey... But I'll take whatever we can get at this time. Was very Happy to see the...

    2021.40.6

Can't wait as I hate that the car turns off climate when I'm clearing snow off of it and it's having issues keeping the car warm too. Looking forward to the cold weather improvements. And yes, where I am we've already had several days of sub zero temps.

    Supercharger - Soldotna, AK

Use plugshare and you can see some of the DCFC's under construction on the highway system up here. There are others as only one group that is putting them in has updated plugshare with "under construction" pins. There are a couple of operational Chademo/CCS units in the state already - but not...

I can't wait for the next update! Phantom braking is driving me nuts.

Here is the odd part as I did some more testing and watching as the snow melted. I don't trust AP on snow/ice covered roads. The car doesn't think the speed limit dropped, it just drops in one area down to 35. I think it has to do with it reading the road. As an example, there is no speed...

I can't wait for the next update! Phantom braking is driving me nuts.

I guess I'll chime in here, I got my Y back in Feb and the first time I tried AP it phantom braked multiple times - then I got the first update pretty quick and it was better and it seemed for awhile like it kept getting better and better... Even keeping me centered in the lane really well...

PROS/CONS - what makes you love your Tesla?

I think everyone summed it up, but really what would you expect on a Tesla Forum? You get work arounds for your annoyances. Auto wipers and headlights are my biggest on your list. But a slight tap at the end of the left stalk and it brings up the wiper menu and gives you a swipe. You can...

Battery Degradation Related to Hill Climb to Get Home?

I use 15% of my battery each roundtrip into town in the summer and 20% or so in the winter. So if it dropped to 250 miles it still isn't a huge issue for me. I can still do everything I need to with the car. Once I switched to % is makes a lot more sense, even though I prefer to look at the...

Charging the X with the Lectron CCS adaptor

Lucky that you all could get it, every time I check it's backordered with no ETA of availability.

Battery Degradation Related to Hill Climb to Get Home?

Just as an update now that summer is over for me and I've had more time behind the wheel. My average is around 330 wh/mi. 5500 miles on the car and my 100% charge typically shows 300 miles of range. I don't drive as fast as @Chewy986 does as speed limits are 60-65 mph here, but otherwise my...

Trade In Value from Tesla? WTF?

I'm sure they did want that much - and also a refresh happened and we all know the older models will drop in value. Brian from i1Tesla was really ticked about his trade in offer from Tesla for his X as well...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

inergen makes a plug in module and you can control tq split with it. However, It's probably a warranty voiding thing. Even though it's "removeable" - FWIW, it's the same company that can give you either 50HP or all of the performance upgrade on the Y without going through Tesla. Just in case...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

Yeah - it seems like leaving the car alone is good enough for me. If I get into a tight spot it seems like it may help. I've gotten pretty good at having a light foot though. Not even a fan of chill mode.

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

Snow Drift - Now I need to try ORM just to see the difference. I don't have any real issues in the snow/ice in my Y compared to other AWD vehicles I have/have had... I do have studded winter tires that help a LOT. I have a few slippery streets that I may run it on in different modes just to see...

    North to Alaska

100% true for Alaska. If you are running around Canada and/or the L48 it'd make sense to get an RV locating app and then call ahead to make sure they will allow you to charge. Also, an AIRBNB at Aleyska up here just added a RV charging spot for people that rent from them. So far, I haven't...

Blog Musk Says Cybertruck Updates Coming Soon

I thought that too - so I switched to tri-motor. But honestly, that's OK as I bought Y to hold me over and the longer I have it the easier it will be to sell it and have equity in it.
  17. D

    North to Alaska

yes. On my app I get a red battery icon with a snowflake in it. When the battery is "ready" that light goes out.

    Taiga Electric Snowmobile Launch

I was gonna say, unless you can plug into a tree, it's going to be a no go for most of the Alaska riding trails. Certainly won't be doing any iron dog runs (sadly).

Michelin launches first EV tire designed for high performance electric cars

Nokian has a set of EV winter tires coming out too. I'm hoping they have a set of A/S ones as well. Lately they have been my go to tire company, especially for winter tires. To answer your question, EVs have a lot of torque. More then most ICE vehicles and also to get good driving range need...

    North to Alaska

ColeAK - We are very close to being neighbors, I'm at roughly 1400' elevation on the hillside - when I leave I have no regen, even at times preconditioning so all that potential energy is lost. Although it's been cooler out since I got the Y and like now it's snowing fairly hard so the roads...

    Heater failures in Model Y

That could be a symptom of no heat... It's simple - setup an appointment on the APP - your local tech can look into your car and see if your heat is working properly and/or if sensors are bad. Then you know 100%. Generally, until you are in zero to sub zero temps you'll have some heat.
  22. D

    North to Alaska

I wish I was getting 400 wh/mi... Living up a mountain is takes a lot of energy. I just went down to get mail and my average was 1020 WH/MI. Into Anchorage and Back (24 miles roundtrip) and I am in the 700s if I am lucky. I imagine if I did a long run it'd be better... Preheating/conditioning...

    North to Alaska

@coleAK - You forgot to mention the sad shape the ferry system is in right now. Not very reliable. Now that I have my Y, I can attest that I lose over 50% of range in the winter. And even a buddy that has a place in Denali National Park has told me that when the leaves Anchorage to go back...

Will tri motor be 550-600 mi,es?

Hoping Tri-Motor is at least 500 miles of unladen range or I am not as interested in it. Chargers are too few and far between for me, winter's brutal, and there is only one supercharger being predicted this year to be installed in my entire state. At least the SC will be in a area that I'd want...

    Heating enery use

A crap ton - I lost about 20 miles of range bringing the car up to 70s and heating the battery pack the other day. Granted it was -5F out. That plays a huge part in that energy draw as the heat pump will start out at 100% duty cycle until it starts getting warm in the vehicle and then ramp...

    Couple questions on wiper blades...

Hmmm... I really need the stuff that stays liquid down a little further in temps as -20 or -25F just isn't enough. I was using a -40F rated fluid, but not sure I should now. Granted, this will hopefully be a next winter issue as our super sub zero temps should, key word should, be over for me in...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

Reading this thread before taking delivery of my Y I was concerned... After I am not. It handles the slippery stuff for me fine. I live in Alaska and I have a 1400 foot elevation change every time I go to/from my house into town. My driveway is steep (13% grade) and I have a 13% grade that's 7%...

    Heater failures in Model Y

I am heavily involved with this issue in Alaska. More then just me have or had it. My vin is 76XXX, it failed the day I picked it up on Feb. 4, 2021. 2021 MYP. It is now working - 3 new sensors and the latest SW build of 2021.4.6.... In fact if you are a Y in Alaska and no heat and haven't...

2021 Performance Range Change with Wheel Config

We had something in common as it was 4F out this morning when I left - Just need a zero to be at your low temp... Heat is WORKING amazing now. and Regen is too. Tomorrow it should be in the double digits below zero or at least I will be driving to double digits below for the final test. With...

2021 Performance Range Change with Wheel Config

I got the heat pump sensors replaced and a special firmware update. Latest trip, same roads is down to roughly 450 wh/mi. BUT it's a tad warmer out with temps in the upper 20s. (above zero) Heat is working - although regen ability is different. I preheated the cabin before I left and I had...

    Model Y Service Bulletins

Getting the sensors which were remote diagnosed replaced tomorrow. Heat works until the temps get down into the teens F and it starts to get cold or blow warm. not hot air. Once temps break 0F it's like I have no heat. According to the Tech I am getting new sensors from a new vendor that...

Just finished my first "road trip" and I am not happy with range

Probably not applicable to a SC, but if you ever find yourself needing that charge on a non-SC. Get out, lock up and walk around so that all available power will go into the battery. If I sit in the car and watch it charge in cold weather, a lot of power is being used to keep the car running...

    Why 80kW at a 250kW max SC?

What's your SOC? Seems like to get the max rate you need a low SOC - and even though the battery preconditioned, outside air temp is still a factor. Lastly, have a tech look at your car, Y's are having heat pump issues and the heat pump helps precondition the battery, so it's possible it...

2021 Performance Range Change with Wheel Config

I'm using a ton of wh/mi in the cold and a non-working heat pump, so I can't tell you much a this point other than my average wh/mi with 18s is over 600 - with some trips being over 800 when it's sub zero out.

Battery Degradation Related to Hill Climb to Get Home?

Hmmm. On top of a hill as well - 1400 foot elevation change probably over the last 1.5 miles of my drive - although I have a few areas of 13% grades. My wh/mi is horrible. Slowly getting my average down since I took delivery last Friday, but lets just say 860 wh/mi seems to be common. It's cold...

Overnight in 0°F weather? Travel Tips?

All I can tell you is that there is difference between being plugged in to my 110V/12a plug then not. Not the same as preconditioning the battery, but it certainly helps keep the power up. I did noticed today sitting in the car plugged in to a 30A / 220V J1772 connector that it was adding 0...

The Boring Company in Talks for Miami Tunnel Project

If anyone can do it, Musk can. I hope he knows the challenges in Miami. And better start off higher then 10 feet above sea level and engineer some decent pumps as when hurricanes hit the storm surge will dump quite a bunch of water into those tunnels. Heck the Brickell Apartment i lived in after...

Just finished my first "road trip" and I am not happy with range

Been driving in 0F - seeing 800-860 wh/mi. Temps rose to the teens and I was able to get my average down to 660 wh/mi. I never get EPA ranges on my gas/diesel vehicles either. In this weather our Jeep that is rated for 14/22 we are getting 11... An average speed of 45 mph on long highway drive...

Overnight in 0°F weather? Travel Tips?

Been around 0F here for a bit - and my usage, not going highway speeds is horrific. Happy to post a photo, but I'm seeing 800 wh/mi and this is short trips (10 miles), some of which were with the vehicle having been cold soaked - to the point that regen was almost non-existent and acceleration...

What did you own before your Model Y?

So I have a cyber on order and the Y I got is my hold over. It's also going to be my learning Tesla vehicle. If all goes well, I'll sell it when my cybertruck comes in. If not, then I will sell it and get something different. So far, really happy with my Y. It's going to be hard driving or...

Tires: Model Y Performance with 21" Ubertines

I don't find my MYP to be that loud... Stock 21s or even with studded, winter tires on it. It did however, catch me off guard with the noise the snow made when it hits the underside of the vehicle. (really, slush) I drove the vehicle from my delivery area to a tire shop for the winter tires so...

How are your AWD Ys handling the winter snow?

Picked up my MYP today at the port of Anchorage. It's slick out, roads are snow/ice covered. I was nervous about taking it, but I found a tire place with rims and studded nokians in stock. Was supposed to be a flat drive there - however, Leaving I made a wrong turn and ended up having to go up...

Where is the love for the MYP?!

I hymmed and hawed over the two and decided on the MYP, even though i will need another set of rims and tires for winter. It's my mid life crisis car... I figure at one point, Tesla will up the performance of the performance Y. It wasn't immediate on the model3 either and with the performance...

Just finished my first "road trip" and I am not happy with range

Not surprised. I estimate at least 50% range loss and in extreme conditions even more. Its why when someone says, we don't need more than 300 miles of EPA range I call BS. 300 miles of range at 70 mph, with a 10 mph headwind, in 0F weather, now we are talking. Now the Tesla is more efficient...

High cost of charging according to TeslaFi?

MSWLOGO - I don't like that you can't turn off auto regen as I like to coast. I found it more efficient in our Volt and can't believe it won't be more efficient in a Tesla. But it is what it is. I do live on top of a mountain and the only thing about preheating that I like (I know it's...

    Trade in Insurance Coverage

Seems odd, since they have the keys and you signed trade in paperwork... I also found it odd in the Tesla said they cover the shipping liability insurance, but wouldn't ship it until I put coverage on it. I would do it regardless as the last thing I need is the car to get totaled on it's way to...

    Finally my 18” snow wheels

So you are aware on the MYP the rear tire is 28.6" tall from the factory, so yeah, likely no issues at all.
