Elon "About to end range anxiety"

I wish someone would ask when 6.2 is released and what about non-nav users? Do they get both apps?
  3. Eggplant

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

Okay, maybe not "huge," but a bigger deal than many other announcements they have made.
  4. Eggplant

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

My gut says it's the nav update. But yeah, that would be a pretty lame thing for a huge media conference.

    Supercharger stations in North Carolina

Yeah, never had to wait. The most I've ever seen are two other cars plus my own.

    Firmware 6.0

The whole speedo looks pretty different to me. All the skeuomorph elements trying to make it look like a real dial are gone.

    Phone App v2.0 (FW v6.0)

That's not actually the point. Think about it this way: Another bad practice is to require users to rotate password too often. Sounds good on paper. People should be more secure because old passwords will have a limited life, and users will need to use more complex passwords instead of using...

    Phone App v2.0 (FW v6.0)

Unfortunately it will only encourage people to use simple passwords on their account. This is textbook bad security. I though they hired some security expert out from Apple? They should know better.

    Phone App v2.0 (FW v6.0)

Ouch. Great example of bad security.

How many miles will you put on your Tesla in 8 years? To infinity... and beyond!

Just recently passed 25k my first year. At this rate, I'll hit 200k in 8 years.

Drive unit problems explanation by Elon

SO, just a follow up to my post. Tesla corporate stalked me in this thread and the local SC emailed me a couple of days later asking me to come in so they could hear the sound. This is what they said: 1) Was due to a mostly cosmetic problem with the gearbox. The said it wasn't serious, but...

    New Higher-resolution Instrument Panel Display

Both were running the same 5.12 rev (1.64.26) and updated by the same service center. The hi res screen was quite noticeably lower frame rate and laggy on the speedo compared to the older screen. Old car is VIN 146xx, new car is VIN 448xx.
  15. Eggplant

    New Higher-resolution Instrument Panel Display

So, I have a newer loaner today. VIN 44xxx. I was skeptical about the higher res before, but now I'm convinced. I compared it side by side to an older car and this car definitely has a higher resolution screen and the thin bezel. HOWEVER--- It's obvious the tegra 2 driving this display hasn't...

Drive unit problems explanation by Elon

Tesla is stalking me in this thread. I'll try to make some audio recordings before I go in for my service appointment next week.
  17. Eggplant

    New Higher-resolution Instrument Panel Display

Someone get out the macro lens and stick a photo reference scale to the screen. I agree that it doesn't make much sense that it would be a pixel or two per inch higher res. If the screen is a different physical size and the graphics scaled differently... maybe? Also-- someone post pics of...

Drive unit problems explanation by Elon

So, reading all this has me concerned. I have three noises, two of which I think are getting worse. Do any of these sound like drive replacement worthy issues? I'm at around 25k miles after one year of ownership. 1) A low speed "whirring" or "warble." I hear this around 10 mph up through about...

Interesting! Not seeing those under 5.11. Does Tesla tailor the response based on what your known version is? vehicle_name is a 6.0 feature revealed in the Colbert interview. Are we close to 6.0?

Anyone else having problems? Phone app works (it may have cached credentials). I can hit the API login URL from my poller, but I get timeouts trying to authenticate. EDIT: Yeah, looks like auth is busted again. Deleting the cookie from the app causes the same timeouts.

Things you may not have discovered about your Model S?!

Interesting. Yeah, I'll have to ask them about that. My car completely flips out from the static when cleaning the dash without screen cleaning mode. Before the mode was introduced, I'd reboot the screen to get a few seconds of screen cleaning time. It will do some very odd things due the the...

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

@Mr. KNox I had a similar issue early on with my car. Turned out to be a bad connection from the charger unit inside the car. Some path only used when charging >40 Amps. (It happened when super charging and on HPWC, but not NEMA 14-50). The replaced a simple connector and resolved the issue.

Tesla adds Titanium Underbody Shield to Model S

No side effects here. But The way that T-shaped bar is attached I cannot see how battery swaps will work without some modification. It overlaps the edge of the battery and the chassis. But then, I'm skeptical we will see battery swaps in the current Model S as demonstrated in that stage...

    Supercharger - Burlington, NC

Yeah, the layout seems different on this one than most. You can't really go by the "every other slot" rule. I spoke to the contractor the day they were lighting this one and he said it was the first one his company had built.
  32. Eggplant

    Supercharger - Burlington, NC

Yeah, all supercharges will ramp down the higher your SoC. But, I've managed to get 120 kW (if only for a few minutes) with 40% or less of charge. At this super charger, even.

    FOB and windows

I emailed ownership, and got a vague response that it was removed in 5.9. Not clear if that was on purpose or not. I opened a feature request that it be put back with the suggested improvements of being able to roll the windows back up, and a toggle option.
  34. Eggplant

    FOB and windows

I used this feature all the time and I hope it's a bug that they removed it. That said, I do hope it comes back with a feature to roll them all back up again. And to satisfy the haters, a toggle on the settings screen.

I've noticed this too. Hoping it's a bug. Sure is handy on hot days.

I bet this has to do with the new cold weather battery meter in 5.9.

    Firmware 5.9

My charger history did not get wiped going from 5.8 to .94. However, all the duplicates I would have used the edit feature for seemed to disappear. My home address was listed four times prior to the upgrade.
  38. Eggplant

    Firmware 5.9

Anyone else noticed performance issues with 5.9? I'm running the .94 rev. I've noticed the frame rate on maps gets pretty chunky at times. And often the scroll wheel menu is unresponsive. I will try a series of reboots today, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
  39. Eggplant

    Firmware 5.9

I asked about the beta program a while back. I was told they approach owners to participate based on whether their car configuration/vintage matches what they are trying to test. in other words, no way to opt into any sort of beta.

Tesla adds Titanium Underbody Shield to Model S

I was looking over the parts at the SC this morning. (I didn't get it installed yet, was in for something else). 12-16 lbs seems about right. That leading edge aluminum bar is no joke. It's heavy. The titanium plate is pretty small and seems to just cover the front cell) and the T shaped bar is...

Right, but maybe the folks that are laser focused on that calculation and are convinced their battery is defective when it gets cold will calm down.

Tesla adds Titanium Underbody Shield to Model S

Titanium is cathodic to aluminum. Hopefully they will provide insulation between this new plate and the aluminum armor or we will certainly see corrosion of the aluminum.

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Just to follow up and close my own thread. Service ended up replacing both condenser fans. Once they got the parts in and covers off they could make them squeak just by spinning the fan with a finger. So they replaced them both. Squeak is gone! And they even fixed up a couple more things I...

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Oh, that's interesting. I'll have to ask about that mileage thing. I'd much prefer to go annually since I pile so many miles on my car. The fan issue seems to happen range mode or no. BUT. I'd like to follow up and say that apparently Tesla ownership reads this thread. (Everyone wave! Hi...
