Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
I'm disagreeing with you on this, because in The Netherlands, fossil fuels are heavily subsidised. The government even calculated it themselves. Source, major independent news organisation from The Netherlands: Fossiele sector krijgt tussen 39,7 en 46,4 miljard euro subsidie, nog meer dan gedacht
It's news from yesterday, but I don't recall seeing it here yet:

Ford is in trouble.
I don't recall this being posted before, apologies if it has been.

Refreshingly, it appears not only Tesla makes the news with their ADAS software.
For a few years we've already had nothing spectacular at events or reveals like this. Just how I like it.
Elon plans an event of something with the idea of just showing it. Then we all extremely hype it up to the maximun. And then when the event takes place, it's exactly the thing Elon told us...
The owner of the Model 3 Highland says he noticed a red shimmer on the cameras and concludes it must be HW4. The latest news I read was that "HW3.5" would be installed on the Highland, whatever that means. How to find out which HW version actually is installed in Highland? If it's HW3.5, would...
Spotted the refresh Model 3 on my way to work. The car wrapped up in front and back . Very cool and sleek looking.

Why would they still wrap it now?
For me, this does not hold. If I'm working on my own, the velocity is very high, but do I go in the right direction?
When I work together with at least one other engineer, we now have two pairs of eyes to look at the same problem, and the second pair of eyes will definitely point out some flaws...
I completely agree.
It looks like Gall's Law
"A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over with a working simple system."
I agree with you and I think it even means wealth and abundance for everyone.
Have you read this story?

If not: have fun and let me know how this compares to your views.
P.S. It's quite a lenghty story, but I think it's worth the time investment.
I respectfully disagree.
If they are rational they know they made an agreement between a buyer and a seller for the car for a certain price.
You buy a Tesla to drive in it right? Not as an investment.
The only thing that worries me about stalkless is roundabouts. In The Netherlands I'm required to use a turn signal when leaving the roundabout. It will be quite hard to figure out which button to press if the wheel is upside down. Does anyone have experience with roundabouts and stalkless turn...
The problem is not reading the sign. The problem are the rules or even the road design. If the area around schools is designed to be safe for pedestrians, you don't need rules and signs like this.
If they can't change the road, go for the safe option and limit the speed to 25 at all times.
I get where you're coming from.
If the 300k lines of C++ would be replaced with some other Software 1.0* code, I would agree. But because it's replaced with neutral nets, things could turn out quite differently.

When did Tesla start working on Dojo? Wikipedia says it was first mentioned in April 2019. That's 4 years ago already. It's like some people at Tesla are really good in...
Today is the first time I've seen a Hyundai Ioniq 6 (2023 edition). It looks like a nice sedan with an Asian touch to it. Very nice, I hope the Highland Model 3 incorporates the good parts from the design.
Then I compared the interior and specifications to the current Model 3 and they looked...
Me neither.
Anecdotal evidence: myself, I'm waiting for Highland to buy a Model 3. I'm from Europe and the Model Y is just too big for my taste.
I like it that Tesla is creating a refresh of the Model 3. This way they get experience in creating another smaller model (Highland) and they can use...
Great question.
How I like to think about it is that when FSD is 10x safer than a human driver, there will be 10x less accidents. Note that this is from the perspective of one car being 10x safer. If both hypothetical cars are 10x safer, does that make those cars together 100x safer? So 100x...
This is a big one. I'm banned from using ChatGPT or outside services at my organisation to prevent source code and data going out of the network.
The creation and maintenance of private LLMs will be a business on its own I guess.
We are not trusting ChatGPT as a source right... I think anyone should delete their Tweet if they found out the content they listed has ChatGPT as source.
Rivian Q4 numbers (pdf)
"We generated negative gross profit of $(1,000) million for the fourth quarter 2022. For fiscal year 2022, we generated negative gross profit of $(3,123) million. Gross profit for the fourth quarter 2022 was impacted by a lower of cost or net realizable value (“LCNRV”)...
I was surfing on the web when I encountered this article (with clickbaity headline). At first I started reading fearfully, but when I saw the bottom(!) of the chart, I realised why I'm in this thread again.
https://www.axios.com/2022/03/04/the-cold-hard-truth-about-electric-vehicles-in-winter
The truth lies in the eye of the beholder.
I look at the message, take into account the images and ignore most of the words.
This way, his predictions look quite accurate. What do you think?
Earlier, a news item mentioned the factory would be built for the "assembly of cargo trucks". So who knows what that means. Semi? Van?
Or was it all speculation?
